A 16-year-old girl was admitted to hospital with lower abdominal pain. An ultrasound examination suggested an ovarian cyst. A laparoscopic procedure found that a duplication cyst in the patient's ileum had caused mechanical ileus. The cyst was surgically resected through the creation of an end-to-end anastomosis, and pathological examination confirmed it to be a duplication cyst. Duplication cysts are a rare congenital disorder, especially past infancy. They are characterized by an epithelium of gastrointestinal origin and a lining of smooth muscle in their walls...

Struma ovarii (SO), a rare tumor containing at least 50% of thyroid tissue, represents approximately 5% of all ovarian teratomas; its malignant transformation rate is reported to occur in up to 10% of cases and metastases occur in about 5-6% of them. We describe a 36-year old woman who underwent laparoscopic left annessectomy two years earlier because of an ovarian cyst. Follow-up imaging revealed a right adnexal mass, ascitis and peritoneal nodes that were diagnosed as comprising a malignant SO with peritoneal secondary localizations at histopathology performed after intervention...

Late occurrence of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR), defined as occurring 6 months after transplantation, is associated with poor renal allograft survival, compared to early acute AMR and acute cellular rejection. The proteasome inhibitor bortezomib has multiple immunomodulatory effects on plasma cells, the source of donor-specific HLA antibodies which mediate AMR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Consecutive patients who presented with biopsy-proven AMR and donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies (DSA) at a single institution between July 2011 and February 2015 were included...

A 74-year-old postmenopausal woman visited our gynecology clinic complaining of a palpable abdominal mass. Physical and radiological evaluation indicated that the mass exhibited features of a left ovarian neoplasm showing heterogeneous enhancement. Surgical resection was performed to confirm this suspicion. During surgery, a mass was observed only in the left ovary with no invasive growth, but adhesions to the surrounding peritoneum were seen. Given the patient's age, large mass size, and accompanying uterine myoma and right ovarian cyst, total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed...

Ovarian endometriosis is a common gynecological disorder. To date, progestins are recommended as the first-line medical treatment for symptomatic ovarian endometriosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the main histopathological effects of short-term dienogest therapy in patients with ovarian endometriomas scheduled for surgery. A prospective, nonrandomized controlled trial, including 70 symptomatic women with single ovarian endometriotic cyst (diameter between 30-50 mm) was conducted. Women scheduled for surgery were divided into two groups, depending on the treatment established at enrollment: 36 women received progestin therapy with dienogest (P group) and 34 women received no therapy (C group)...

OBJECTIVE: Benign mature teratoma during pregnancy is common, mostly discovered incidentally by antenatal sonography. However, repeated pregnancy coincident with ovarian mature teratoma is rarely reported. The cases of teratoma with rapid growing characteristics are even more unique. CASE REPORT: A 17-year-old woman was pregnant at 6 weeks of gestation with a left ovarian teratoma. She underwent artificial abortion followed by surgical removal of the teratoma. However, eleven years after the surgery, a right ovarian teratoma was found incidentally by antepartum sonography at 21 weeks of gestation...

Ovarian torsion is a rare but emergency condition in women. Early diagnosis is necessary to preserve the function of the ovaries and tubes and prevent severe morbidity. Ovarian torsion refers to complete or partial rotation of the adnexal supporting organ with ischemia. It can affect females of all ages. Ovarian torsion occurs in around 2%-15% of patients who have surgical treatment of adnexal masses. The main risk in ovarian torsion is an ovarian mass. The most common symptom of ovarian torsion is acute onset of pelvic pain, followed by nausea and vomiting...

The giant ovarian serous cystadenoma is a rare finding and often benign. The use of the laparoscopic approach versus open approach for the management of huge ovarian cysts is controversial. We report a case of a 27-year-old woman with a history of increasing abdominal girth over a period of two years along with radiological investigations revealed a large tumor arising from the right ovary treated by complete laparoscopic extirpation of a giant ovarian cyst. The complete laparoscopic approach for huge cyst is a feasible treatment when having a normal tumor marker profile and benign imaging appearance...
