BACKGROUND: Gynandroblastoma is an extremely rare ovarian sex cord tumor with malignant potential. CASE: An 18-year-old adolescent experienced intermittent vaginal bleeding. A year later, right adnexal mass with a heterogeneous imaging appearance was identified. Laparoendoscopic single-site ovarian tumorectomy was performed. A histopathological examination showed gynandroblastoma composed of juvenile granulosa and Sertoli-Leydig cells. Since the tumor was upstaged to stage Ic due to cyst rupture during surgery, three cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy with carboplatin and paclitaxel were added...

BACKGROUND: Observational data and results from post-hoc analyses in clinical trials suggest that direct oral factor Xa inhibitors might increase menstrual bleeding intensity in women of reproductive age, but the extent of this effect is unknown. We aimed to investigate the management and outcomes of vaginal bleeding complications during therapy with direct oral factor Xa inhibitors in a case series of women of reproductive age. METHODS: To identify individuals for inclusion in this case series, we searched two sources of prospectively collected data from women of reproductive age treated with direct oral factor Xa inhibitors: the non-interventional Dresden NOAC Registry (NCT01588119), which is based in the administrative district of Dresden (Saxony, Germany), and all locally archived data from phase 3 trials of direct oral factor Xa inhibitors done at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden...

Most common ovarian diseases appear to be cystic or ovarian tumours. These conditions may affect health, fertility or even the life of the animal. Literature related to ovarian cysts and neoplasia in dogs was assessed to summarize studies and case series on ovarian cysts and primary ovarian tumours in regard to epidemiologic, clinical and fertility aspects. Two research papers on histopathological examination of ovarian cysts could be identified. Seven research papers on ovarian tumours were also assessed, showing inconsistent results on the frequency of occurrence of different types of neoplasia...

Hyperreactio luteinalis (HL) is a rare condition that is characterized by bilateral ovarian enlargement and multiple thin walled cysts. Hypersensitivity of the ovary to circulating human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is playing the main role in pathophysiology. HL observed in cases where there is high serum ß-HCG levels, similarly to gestational trophoblastic disease, multiple pregnancies, hydrops fetalis and after fertiliy treatment. Most of HL are self limiting condition and patients are asymptomatic. Differentiation from ovarian malignancies is important...

A 76-year-old female presented to our hospital with a 2 cm firm, nontender, protuberant umbilical nodule. She received treatment with antibiotics for suspected granuloma, with no improvement after two months. High levels of CA125 as well as an ovarian cyst and intrathoracic and intra-abdominal lesions on imaging studies made us suspect an ovarian cancer with a Sister Mary Joseph nodule (SMJN) and other metastases. A bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and umbilical and omentum tumor resections were performed and a metastatic ovarian serous adenocarcinoma was diagnosed by histopathology...

The term collision tumor refers to the coexistence of two adjacent but histological distinct tumors with no histological admixture at the interface. Collision tumors involving ovaries are extremely rare. A collision tumor composed of a dermoid cyst and fibrothecoma is extremely rare in menopausal women. The mechanism of the development of collision tumor is uncertain. During clinical evaluation, differentiation of characters of these ovarian tumors is important to decide appropriate treatment strategies and for good prognosis...

The incidence of endometriosis is increasing. Particularly during pregnancy and labour, clinicians should be alert to possible endometriosis-associated complications or complications of previous endometriosis treatment, despite a low relative risk. In addition to an increased rate of early miscarriage, complications such as spontaneous bowel perforation, rupture of ovarian cysts, uterine rupture and intraabdominal bleeding from decidualised endometriosis lesions or previous surgery are described in the literature...

Endometriosis is observed in ∼10% of reproductive age women. Ovarian endometriosis not only causes dysmenorrhea but also infertility and a high risk of adenocarcinoma. Due to its scattered nature, complete surgical resection is difficult. Endometriosis consists of glandular and stromal cells. Previously, we showed that endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) play a role in the protection against pathologic events caused by monthly repeated hemorrhage. Here, we undertook a preclinical study of non-thermal plasma (NTP) as a surgical treatment of endometriosis...

Mature germ cell derived cystic teratoma of the ovary, i.e. dermoid cyst, is a common ovarian neoplasm, seldom progressing to malignancy. Malignized dermoid cyst is most commonly diagnosed in a woman of approx. 50 years of age, either during or after an operation. Owing to the rarity of the disease, the lines of treatment are based on retrospective series of cases.
