This study investigated the use of medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) or a short protocol for controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) in patients with advanced endometriosis who have normal ovarian function, and to compare cycle characteristics and pregnancy outcomes after frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET). This was a retrospective case-control study of 244 patients with advanced endometriosis undering COH. The patients were allocated to three groups: the surgery group with MPA COH (62 patients, 71 IVF/ICSI cycles, 78 FET cycles); the aspiration group with MPA COH (85 patients had ovarian "chocolate" cysts (>3 cm) aspirated, 90 IVF/ICSI cycles, 76 FET cycles); and the short protocol group (97 patients, 101 IVF/ICSI cycles, 51 FET cycles)...

Neonatal clitoromegaly is mainly attributed to in utero androgen exposure secondary to congenital adrenal hyperplasia. We report on 2 extremely premature girls with clitoromegaly, increased androgen levels, no salt wasting syndrome, and ovarian cyst. In case 1, the cyst liquid was aspired during ovarian hernia surgery and revealed high androgen levels. After aspiration, serum androgen levels decreased, as did clitoral size. In case 2, an ovarian cyst was seen on pelvic ultrasound. Aspiration was not indicated...

Ectopic adrenal tissue in the ovary is a rare entity. We reported a case of ectopic adrenal tissue in borderline mucinous cystadenoma of the left ovary. A 22 year-old student presented with progressive abdomen distension associated with discomfort for 3 months. Imaging investigation was suggestive of mucinous left ovarian cyst. Left salpingo-oophorectomy was performed and the histopathology revealed borderline mucinous cystadenoma with an incidental finding of ectopic adrenal tissue. This is an interesting case because of its rarity and potential risk of neoplasm changes...

An 18 years-old-girl presented one and half years back with the complaints of short stature, retarded growth, and menorrhagia with sudden severe lower abdominal pain; was diagnosed as bilateral ovarian cysts and underwent bilateral ovarian cystectomy. Later on she was incidentally diagnosed as a case of hypothyroidism when she had been experiencing slowly enlarging left lower abdominal mass with dull ache for the 5 month and then was transferred to the department of Endocrinology for further evaluation. Detailed work up revealed her short stature with obesity, delayed bone age and other features of hypothyroidism which was confirmed by thyroid function testing...

The development of a somatic neoplasm within an ovarian dermoid cyst (mature cystic teratoma) is a rare, but well described, phenomenon which occurs in approximately 1% of all cases. Any of the tissue components of a dermoid cyst has the potential to undergo neoplastic transformation with carcinoid tumors and squamous cell carcinomas being among the most common neoplasms. We report a case of a ganglioneuroblastoma arising within an ovarian dermoid cyst, an association which, as far as we are aware, has not been described previously...

Ovarian tumors are commonly seen in reproductive age group in women. However, when they occur at extremes of age, the suspicion of malignancy increases. The detection of dermoid cyst at 8 years of age is uncommon and hence is being reported to acquaint the doctors of this possibility. Awareness of benign tumors in small children can help in proper counseling of patient party and planning the surgical procedure.

BACKGROUND: Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the leading cause of death from gynaecologic malignancies and has a poor prognosis due to metastasis. Drugs targeting the angiogenesis pathway significantly improve patient outcome. However, the key factors linking angiogenesis and metastasis have not been elucidated. In this study, we found Tie2 expressing monocytes (CD14(+)Tie2(+), TEMs) as key contributors to angiogenesis and metastasis of EOC. METHODS: Tissue slides were evaluated by immunofluorescence for the presence of total tissue macrophages and TEMs...

Sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) is a marine groundfish that supports valuable fisheries in the North Pacific Ocean and holds promise for marine aquaculture. Limited information is available, however, about its reproductive biology. This study aimed to characterize the complete reproductive cycle, including seasonal changes in gonadal development (macroscopic and histological), plasma sex steroid levels (17β-estradiol -E2-, and 11-ketotestosterone -11KT-), gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indices (GSI, and HSI), and condition factor (K) of female and male sablefish captured off the Washington coast...

Endometriosis is a common finding in premenopausal women and a significant number of cases presenting digestive tract involvement at the time of diagnosis. However, most of these patients present pelvic nodules involving the rectosigmoidian junction, other digestive tract segments being less commonly affected. We present the case of a 37-year-old nulliparous woman who presented for diffuse abdominal pain and vomiting; she was diagnosed with complete ileocecal obstruction due to an endometriosis nodule in association with bilateral ovarian endometriosis lesions invading the rectosigmodian wall...

OBJECTIVE: The relation between endometriomas and damage to ovarian reserve remains controversial. In this study, we hypothesized that this damage may not be present at the time of endometrioma formation but may conversely gradually develop over time. STUDY DESIGN: To investigate the possibility of a time-related detrimental effect of endometriomas on ovarian reserve, we retrospectively selected 29 women with unilateral cysts who underwent at least two IVF cycles at least 6 months apart and evaluated ovarian responsiveness over time...

PURPOSE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder of the reproductive system characterized by polycystic ovaries and androgen excess. Letrozole is a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor that is used in experimental research to induce PCOS. Kisspeptin is an essential protein in regulation of cyclicity. Kisspeptin receptor is expressed in the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, and kisspeptin containing neurons are affected from sex steroid hormones. We aimed to investigate the number of kisspeptin-positive cells in the arcuate (Arc) and anteroventral periventricular nuclei (AVPV) of hypothalamus in the letrozole-induced PCOS...

BACKGROUND: Mature teratomas, better known as dermoid cysts, are the most common ovarian neoplasms in women in the second and third decade of life. They are invariably benign, and most women are asymptomatic. Ovarian cystectomy is the preferred therapeutic option. CASE: A 24-year-old woman was planned for elective laparoscopic cystectomy for a suspected teratoma; operative findings led to a unilateral oophorectomy. Pathological analysis of the specimen revealed a focus of large cell lymphoma of unknown lineage arising in a mature cystic teratoma...
