Highly active and durable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) may play a pivotal role in commercial success of electrolytic water splitting technology. Among various material classes, binary metal sulphides show a great promise as HER catalysts because of their tunable energy levels conducive to a high catalytic activity and high robustness under harsh operating conditions. On the other hand, facet-controlled nanoparticles with controlled surface energies have gained great recent popularity as active and selective catalysts...

The indications for catheter-based structural and electrophysiological procedures have recently expanded to more complex scenarios, in which an accurate definition of the variable individual cardiac anatomy is key to obtain optimal results. Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) is a unique imaging modality able to provide high-resolution real-time visualization of cardiac structures, continuous monitoring of catheter location within the heart, and early recognition of procedural complications, such as pericardial effusion or thrombus formation...

The transition metal oxides based catalysts have drawn great attention for their application in the electrolysis of water for renewable energy generation. Although manganese oxides were rarely used as oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts, they were still considered as active and efficient OER catalysts due to the earth-abundant and low toxic nature of manganese. In this work, we proposed a facile method for the synthesis of high-performance electrochemical OER catalyst by magnetically stirring the mixture of 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-dithiol (DMTD), Ni2+ and MnO2 nanowires (NWs) in ethanol at room temperature, noted as Ni/DMTD/MnO2 ...

A low-noise aerosol electrometer with a wide dynamic range has been designed for measuring the total net charge on high concentration aerosol particles within the range of -500 pA to +500 pA. The performance of the aerosol electrometer was evaluated by a series of experiments to determine linearity, sensitivity and noise. The relative errors were controlled within 5.0%, 1.0% and 0.3% at the range of -40 pA to +40 pA, ±40 pA to ±100 pA, and ±100 pA to ±500 pA respectively. The stability of the designed aerosol electrometer was found to be highly sensitive to temperature variations, but under temperature control, the root mean square noise and the peak-to-peak noise were 1...

Semiconductor nanowire (NW) lasers have attracted considerable research effort given their excellent promise for nanoscale photonic sources. However, NW lasers currently exhibit poor directionality and high threshold gain, issues critically limiting their prospects for on-chip light sources with extremely reduced footprint and efficient power consumption. Here, we propose a new design and experimentally demonstrate a vertically emitting indium phosphide (InP) NW laser structure showing high emission directionality and reduced energy requirements for operation...

The synthesis of water-soluble near-infrared (NIR)-emissive fluorescent molecules with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics and theranostic functions is highly desirable but remains challenging. In this work, we designed and readily prepared for the first time such a molecule with AIE features, good water-solubility and intense emission in the NIR region. This AIE luminogen (AIEgen) is able to specifically "light up" the cell membrane without the involvement of a washing procedure. Interestingly, the staining process can be performed by simply shaking the culture with cells at room temperature for only a few seconds after the addition of the AIEgen, indicating an ultrafast and easy-to-operate staining protocol...

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are highly toxic contaminants commonly dissolved in industrial wastewater. Therefore, treatment of VOC-containing wastewater requires a robust and rapid reaction because liquid VOCs can become volatile secondary pollutants. In this study, electro-oxidation with catalytic composite dimensionally stable anodes (DSAs)-a promising process for degrading organic pollutants-was applied to remove various VOCs (chloroform, benzene, toluene, and trichloroethylene). Excellent treatment efficiency of VOCs was demonstrated...
