OBJECTIVE: The endovenous application of n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) is a new nontumescent ablation technique for the treatment of venous insufficiency. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare an NBCA-based ablation method with endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) for the management of incompetent great saphenous veins. METHODS: Between May 2013 and August 2014, there were 339 patients with incompetent varicose veins who were treated with either the endovenous application of NBCA (VariClose Vein Sealing System [VVSS]; Biolas, Ankara, Turkey) or EVLA...

INTRODUCTION: Autologous fat grafting is a valuable tool in the correction of facial soft tissue asymmetry and volume deficits. Pubertal growth and fluctuations in body mass present unique challenges to achieving satisfactory results after autologous fat transfer in the pediatric population. Few studies exist describing the outcomes and complications of pediatric facial fat grafting. The objective of this study is to identify the complication profile and outcomes after autologous fat grafting for the correction of facial asymmetry and volume deficits in the pediatric population...

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic axillary lymphadenectomy (EALND) was introduced to clinical work to reduce side effects of conventional axillary lymphadenectomy, while the lipolysis and liposuction of EALND made the process consume more time. The aim of the study was to determine whether immediate liposuction after tumescent solution injection to the axilla could shorten the total time of EALND. METHODS: Fifty-nine patients were enrolled in the study, 30 of them received EALND with traditional liposuction method (TLM), and the rest 29 patients received EALND with immediate liposuction method (ILM)...

Objectives Recurrent varicose veins following surgery is a common, complex and costly problem in vascular surgery. Treatment for RVV is technically more difficult to perform and patient satisfaction is poorer than after primary interventions. Nevertheless, traditional vein surgery has largely been replaced by percutaneous office-based procedures, and the patients with recurrent varicose veins have not benefited from the same advantages. In this paper, we propose an endovascular laser treatment that allows reducing the invasiveness and complications in case of SFJ and SPJ reflux after ligation and stripping of the great and small saphenous vein...

Candida krusei (C. krusei) pneumonia is a rare infection that is frequently associated with a poor outcome. The present study reports an unusual case of C. krusei pneumonia that was initially suspected to be a Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) case. A 64-year-old Saudi Arabian male patient was admitted to our hospital with complaints of cough and dyspnea that persisted for 6 days. The patient presented fever (oral temperature, 38.5°C) and slight tachypnea (25 respirations/min). A chest computerized tomography demonstrated unclear lung fields, diffuse pathological changes in the two lungs and multiple lymphadenectasis in the retrocaval and para-aortic arch area...

BACKGROUND: Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) can easily be obtained from a mini-lipoaspirate procedure of fat tissue and platelet rich plasma (PRP) can be obtained from peripheral blood. The SVF contains a mixture of cells including ADSCs and growth factors and has been depleted of the adipocyte (fat cell) population. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of administering SVF and PRP intra-discally into patients with degenerative disc disease. METHODS: A total of 15 patients underwent a local tumescent liposuction procedure to remove approximately 60 ml of fat tissue...

This study was undertaken to identify the cause of impotence in men undergoing radical prostatectomy, with the hope that this information may provide insight into the possible prevention of this complication. The autonomic innervation of the corpora cavernosa in the male fetus and newborn was traced to determine the topographical relationship between the pelvic nerve plexus, and the prostate, urethra and urogenital diaphragm. We have demonstrated that the branches of the pelvic plexus that innervate the corpora cavernosa are situated between the rectum and urethra, and penetrate the urogenital diaphragm near or in the muscular wall of the urethra...

Treating varicose veins using endovenous thermal techniques - especially laser and radio frequency ablation - has emerged as an effective alternative to open surgery with stripping and high ligation. Even though these methods are very gentle and patient-friendly, they are nevertheless accompanied by risks and side effects. Compared to open surgical therapy, the risk of damage to peripheral and motor nerves is reduced; however, it still exists as a result of heat exposure and tumescent anaesthesia. Non-thermal methods that can be applied without tumescent anaesthesia have been introduced to the market...

INTRODUCTION: Floppy glans syndrome (FGS) is a potential complication of penile prosthesis placement in patients with erectile dysfunction. FGS affects a very small proportion of these patients, and it can manifest in a ventral, dorsal, or lateral droop of a hypermobile glans, which can cause affected patients to complain of painful, unsatisfying, or otherwise difficult attempts at sexual intercourse. Incorrect cylinder sizing can even result in extreme conditions such as flail penis or S-shaped deformity...

Background and aims: In Japan, stripping under general anesthesia, lumbar anesthesia and tumescent local anesthesia has been used in the treatment of primary varicose veins due to saphenous vein insufficiency. However endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) using a 980 nm diode laser has received National Health Insurance (NHI) coverage in 2011, while EVLA using a 1470 nm diode laser with a radial 2-ring fiber has received coverage in 2014. As a result, the use of EVLA has become widespread in Japan. We herein report on the results of varicose veins treatment at our hospital...

BACKGROUND: Sialodochitis fibrinosa is a rare disease which is characterized by recurring episodes of pain and swelling of the salivary glands due to the formation of mucofibrinous plugs. Analytic studies ascertain elevated levels of eosinophils and immunoglobulin E (IgE). Imaging studies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and sialography reveal dilation of the main salivary duct (duct ectasia). Treatment is initially supportive, consisting of compressive massages, and use of antihistamines and/or corticosteroids...

Modern management of varicose veins Chronic venous disease is a common medical condition and occurs in about one-third of the adult population. Reflux, and to a much lesser extent obstruction of the superficial and deep venous systems, generates venous hypertension. The goal of the treatment is to reduce venous hypertension in order to prevent complications, progression of venous disease and to improve patients' quality of life. Today we have a wide spectrum of different treatment options at our disposal. Management is based upon accurate clinical diagnosis and duplex imaging...

BACKGROUND: Endovenous radio frequency ablation for small saphenous vein incompetence by and large appears to be superior and safer than conventional open surgery. Small saphenous vein ablation from approximately mid-calf to the point proximally where the small saphenous vein dives into the popliteal fossa is considered to be safe, as the sural nerve is in most cases separated from this segment of the small saphenous vein by the deep fascia. The outcome of the distal incompetent small saphenous vein remains unclear...
