BACKGROUND: Crimean-congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is an acute tick-borne viral, zoonotic disease with hemorrhagic manifestations and considerable mortality in humans. The purpose of this study was to introduce CCHF as a case report from Babol, north of Iran. It is known as an endemic pathogen in some regions of Iran. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of CCHF suffering from sudden onset of fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, melena and hemorrhagic manifestations like petechiae and epistaxis accompanied with evidence of ticks bite in a non-endemic area in the north of Iran...

INTRODUCTION: Subclinical depression is a prevalent condition with important implications for patients' functioning and wellbeing. However, there is a lack of studies operationalising its definition and studying its clinical significance and health impact in depth. This work analyses subclinical depression impact on a health satus score derived from eight heath domains, and its prevalence in Spanish population. METHODS: The sample was selected from World Health Survey database, choosing the answers for Spain of people with a dignosis of subclinical depression and no depressive disorders...

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors were screened for risk factors of cardiovascular disease. Forty-four ALL survivors in first remission were enrolled. Twenty-six also received 12-18 Gy cranial radiotherapy (RT). Patients' body mass indexes (BMIs) at dignosis and during the study were compared. Metabolic syndrome (MS) evaluation was performed in patients, parents, and siblings older than 6 years. Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA) index of the survivors was also calculated. In survivors with impaired fasting glucose levels, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed...

We performed a genetic dignosis using p53 immunohistochemistry for the detection of lymph node micrometastasis. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed in 12 node-negative patients with breast cancer who subsequently showed relapse. There was no p53 immunostaining in 197 lymph nodes from 12 patients, while 2 were positive in the 12 primary lesions. p53 immunohistochemistry is not an alternative method for detecting lymph node micrometastasis in node-negative breast cancer.

Transbronchial biopsy was performed to the polypoid lesion of the left B10, however dignosis was not confirmed. For the shadow was strongly suspisious for lung carcinoma left lower lobectomy was performed. The resected tumor was composed of spindle cell component and basaloid squamous cell carcinoma component indicating unusual pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma...

It is of paramount importance for the diagnosis and therapy of lung cancer, even for the increasing of 5-year survival rate in that the early dignosis of malignant pulmonary nodules are made by intelligent identification successfully. As it stands, in intelligent identification of pulmonary nodules, computer-aided detection/diagnosis (CAD) plays the most important role. The key points of intelligent identification of pulmonary nodules are (1) Detecting pulmonary nodules based on the characterization of nodule appearance; (2) Measuring accurately the nodule size; (3) Computing accurately the growth rate...

UNLABELLED: THE DIAGNOSIS OF DEPRESSION: Depressive disorder is nowadays diagnosed by the two widely used diagnostic systems--International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organisation, 10th revision and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Criteria of the American Psychiatric Organisation, 4th edition. The criteria for depressive disorder used in these two systems are almost identical. POSTSTROKE DEPRESSION: The dignosis of depression may be difficult to establish in stroke patients, especially in patients with aphasia/dysphasia, anosognosia and other cognitive dysfunction...

Renal fusion anomalies, in which both kidneys are fused togeher in early embyronic life, are rarely encountered. Once a fused kidney is diagnosed or suspected, further laboratory and imaging evaluation should be performed to assess the status of the kidneys and to look for treatable causes of renal pathology. The early dignosis of potential complications that can accompany this anomaly must be made in order to prevent permanent renal damage. The advantage of multidetector computed tomographic (MDCT) urography is its ability to depict the normal urinary tract anatomy, including both the renal parenchyma, and collecting structures and ureters...

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary embolism (PE) presents with diverse non-specific signs and symptoms and its diagnosis mainly depends on diagnostic imaging tests which are laborious and not cost-effective, and only a small proportion of patients with suspected PE actually have the disease. The aim of this study was to analyze the utility of D-dimer test for diagnosing PE by categorizing patients into 'PE likely' and 'PE unlikely' groups using Wells score for clinical probability. METHODS: One hundred forty consecutive patients with clinically suspected PE, in whom D-dimer and imaging tests were performed were enrolled...

The protozoan parasite Neospora caninum is a major cause of abortion in cattle. The diagnosis of neosporosis-associated mortality and abortion in cattle is difficult. In the present paper we review histologic, serologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular methods for dignosis of bovine neosporosis. Although not a routine method of diagnosis, methods to isolate viable N. caninum from bovine tissues are also reviewed.

It is well recognized that radiation can be carcinogenic for a wide variety of tumors, especially, in breast, thyroid, and bone marrow which appear to be radiosensitive. The criteria for establishing the dignosis of radiation- induced malignancy are the knowledge of prior irradiation and the appearance of a malignancy in the irradiated area. We report a case of carcinoma of the thyroid and esophagus following prior neck irradiation for thyroid mass.

Emergent coronary angiography revealed significant stenosis in segment 7 and filling defect in segment 11 without flow delay. Haziness was observed in segment 5.
