Appropriate dosing of pilsicainide hydrochloride, an anti-arrhythmic drug excreted via the kidney, was investigated in patients on dialysis. Ten chronic hemodialysis patients with coexisting severe palpitation of supraventricular premature contractions (SVPC) were treated with 25 mg of pilsicainide hydrochloride before dialysis. All of their plasma concentrations were maintained within the therapeutic range and their mean dialysis rate was 32%. After 2 weeks, 7 patients were followed with consecutive daily dose treatment...

Holter system electrocardiograms were recorded for 617 patients who were treated at the Department of Cardiology, Tokai University Hospital. In cases of arrhythmia, ventricular premature contraction (VPC) was the most predominant, in 291 cases (69%) out of 423 with arrhythmia, followed by 59 (14%) with supraventricular premature contraction (SVPC), 23 (5.4%) with paroxysmal atrial tachycardia, 17 (4%) with second degree A-V block and 10 (2.3%) with transient atrial fibrillation (AF). In addition, nine (2.1%) cases of ventricular tachycardia (VT), one (0...

To investigate the possibility for detection of atrio-ventricular (A-V) regurgitation in arrhythmias non-invasively, we recorded velocity patterns of blood flow at the inflow tract of the right (RVI) and left ventricles (LVI), and at the outflow tract of the left ventricle (LVO) by pulsed Doppler echocardiography in 32 patients with various types of arrhythmia. They were six cases with supraventricular premature contraction (SVPC), 13 with ventricular premature contraction (VPC), two with second degree A-V block, five with complete A-V block and six with artificial right ventricular pacemaker...

Twenty coronary patients with a median age of 76 years were treated in the coronary care unit with tiapamil, a new Ca2+ antagonist, by intravenous infusion (until December, 1979, the generic name was dimeditiapramine). The following arrhythmias were identified: atrial fibrillation with ventricular rate greater than 95 beats/min (5 patients); supraventricular premature complexes (SVPC) (4 patients); and ventricular premature complexes (VPC), Lown grades 2-4 (15 patients). Electrocardiograms and hemodynamic parameters were continuously monitored prior to, during, and after the therapy...

Recently developed high-performance fighter aircraft (HPF) are capable of producing high sustained +Gz (HSG) with a rapid onset rate. This G-producing capability is now beyond human physiologic G tolerance. Many techniques to raise the tolerance to HSG have been used operationally. In order to cope with HSG effectively, the Japanese Air Self Defense Force has given high-G training for certain fighter pilots since 1982. So far, 138 pilots (62 F-15 Trainees, 76 F-4 Trainees) have completed centrifuge training at our laboratory...

Forty three expired cases due to ruptured cerebral aneurysm were studied in electrocardiographic alterations with special reference to other complications of the autonomic nervous system. The cases with past history of ischemic cardiovascular disease had been excluded. The age of the patients ranged between 23 to 79 years old (average 50.1 years old). The clinical condition of the patients according to Hunt & Kosnik classification I in 1 case, II in 11 cases, III in 14 cases, and IV & V in 17 cases. The duration between the aneurysm rupture and admission was within 24 hours in 16 cases, 2 to 3 days in 13 cases, 4 to 7 days in 9 cases, and 2 to 3 weeks in 5 cases...

We compared the frequency and severity of cardiac arrhythmias during combined oral theophylline and inhaled salbutamol vs. salbutamol therapy alone in 18 patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who had concurrent cardiac disease. Seventeen patients showed at least one supraventricular premature complex (SVPC) on the 24-h ECG recording when receiving salbutamol alone: eight patients had isolated SVPCs, less than 10/h; five patients had greater than or equal to 10 SVPCs/h; eight patients showed runs of supraventricular tachycardia or paroxysmal atrial fibrillation...

Ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring was performed on 360 healthy children, from newborn infants to junior high school students. They were divided into five groups by age: group A, 63 newborn infants on the first day of life; group B, 50 infants aged 1-11 months; group C, 53 kindergarten pupils aged 4-6 years; group D, 97 primary school pupils aged 9-12 years; and group E, 97 junior high school students aged 13-15 years. The maximal and minimal heart rates were significantly greater in infants than in older children...

To examine the incidence of arrhythmias in dipyridamole infusion and the relation between dipyridamole-induced arrhythmias and ST-segment depression, dipyridamole electrocardiography tests were performed on 100 patients with coronary artery disease. Dipyridamole was infused at a rate of 0.568 mg/kg for 4 min, and 87-lead body surface mapping was performed to determine ischemic ST-segment depression. Positive ischemic response was defined as greater than or equal to 0.10 mV horizontal or downsloping ST-segment depression below the baseline, lasting 80 msec after the J point...
