INTRODUCTION: Meningiomas are the most common primary brain and central nervous system tumors, accounting for approximately 40% of these tumors. The most important exams for the radiological study of meningiomas are computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We aimed to analyze the radiological features of patients with meningioma related to the simultaneous presence of bilateral macronodular adrenocortical disease (BMAD), with or without pathogenic variants of ARMC5...

Two experiments evaluated carcass characteristics of finishing steers administered the maternal bovine appeasing substance ( mBAS ) prior to slaughter. In Exp. 1, 954 Angus-influenced finishing steers housed in 6 original pens were used. Each original pen was split into a pair of experimental pens 14.3 d ± 3 d prior to slaughter, in a manner that number of steers and average pen body weight ( BW ; 636 ± 4 kg) were similar. An oiler containing mBAS (Ferappease Finish Cattle 5%; FERA Diagnostics and Biologicals; College Station, TX) was added to one of the experimental pens 7 d prior to slaughter ( n  = 6), whereas the other pen did not contain an oiler ( CON ; n  = 6)...

Mucormycosis is a frequently lethal fungal infection that most commonly affects patients with poorly controlled diabetes or other immunosuppressed states. We report the case of a suspected disseminated Rhizopus infection in a patient who was pursuing naturopathic treatment including mud baths for metastatic adrenocortical carcinoma. He was empirically treated with liposomal amphotericin B but opted to stop treatment following multiorgan failure. The patient passed away on the tenth day of his hospital admission...

A considerable proportion of women subjectively perceive a detriment to their cognitive capacity during pregnancy, with decreased memory functions being the most frequently self-reported concerns. However, objective investigation of these perceived cognitive deficits has yielded inconsistent results. This study focused on memory functions during late pregnancy using multiple tasks designed to assess various memory indices, for example, working memory, learning rate, immediate recall, proactive and retroactive interference, delayed recall, retrieval efficiency, visuospatial constructional ability, recognition, and executive function...

BACKGROUND: Tubulin polyglutamylase complex subunit 2 (TPGS2) is an element of the neuronal polyglutamylase complex that plays a role in the post-translational addition of glutamate residues to C-terminal tubulin tails. Recent research has shown that TPGS2 is associated with some tumors, but the roles of TPGS2 in tumor immunity remain unclear. METHODS: The research data were mainly sourced from The Cancer Genome Atlas. The data were analyzed to identify potential correlations between TPGS2 expression and survival, gene alterations, the tumor mutational burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI), immune infiltration, and various immune-related genes across various cancers...

C19 steroids and C22 steroids are vital intermediates for the synthesis of steroid drugs. Compared with C19 steroids, C22 steroids are more suitable for synthesizing progesterone and adrenocortical hormones, albeit less developed. 9,22-dihydroxy-23,24-bisnorchol-4-ene-3-one(9-OHBA), due to its substituents at positions C-9 and C-22, is a beneficial and innovative steroid derivative for synthesizing corticosteroids. We focused on the C22 pathway in Mycobacterium fortuitum ATCC 35855, aiming to develop a productive strain that produces 9-OHBA...

BACKGROUND: Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare malignancy with poor response to systemic chemotherapy. Mitotane is the only approved therapy for adrenocortical carcinoma. Cabozantinib is a multikinase inhibitor approved in multiple malignancies. This is the first prospective trial to explore the anti-tumour activity, safety, and pharmacokinetic profile of cabozantinib in patients with advanced adrenocortical carcinoma. METHODS: This investigator-initiated, single-arm, phase 2 trial in adult patients (aged ≥18 years) with advanced adrenocortical carcinoma was done at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX, USA)...

OBJECTIVE: Thromboelastography (TEG) is a whole blood assay that yields global assessment of hemostasis, as it evaluates clot time, strength, and kinematics of clot formation and lysis. The main objective was to describe preoperative TEG findings in dogs that had an adrenalectomy performed and, secondarily, to describe TEG findings in the dogs with or without hyperadrenocorticism (HAC). ANIMALS: 30 dogs that had preoperative TEG and adrenalectomy performed. METHODS: Medical records between 2018 and 2022 were reviewed...

Adrenocortical insufficiency, also known as adrenal insufficiency (AI), is an endocrine disorder characterized by inadequate production of adrenal hormones, including glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids (MCs). The condition can be categorized as primary, secondary, or tertiary AI, depending on the location of the defect. Classical symptoms of AI include weakness, fatigue, abdominal pain, tachycardia, hypotension, electrolyte imbalances, and hyperpigmentation. In children, the most common cause of AI is classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which results from a deficiency in the 21-hydroxylase enzyme...

PURPOSE: Establishment of sister chromatid cohesion N-acetyltransferase 2 (ESCO2) is involved in the mitotic S-phase adhesins acetylation and is responsible for bridging two sister chromatids. However, present ESCO2 cancer research is limited to a few cancers. No systematic pan-cancer analysis has been conducted to investigate its role in diagnosis, prognosis, and effector function. METHODS: We thoroughly examined the ESCO2 carcinogenesis in pan-cancer by combining public databases such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Genotype-Tissue Expression Project (GTEx), UALCAN and Tumor Immune Single-cell Hub (TISCH)...

17α-hydroxylase deficiency is a type of congenital adrenocortical hyperplasia that is typically diagnosed in childhood or adolescence. It manifests as hypertension with gonadal dysfunction as the primary symptom. We herein report 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency (17OHD) diagnosed at the age of 45 years. The patient presented with hypertension, irregular menstruation, and hyperaldosteronism. The clinical manifestations of 17OHD vary based on the specific variant pattern of CYP17A1. In this case, the variant was c...

The crosstalk between the chromaffin and adrenocortical cells is essential for the endocrine activity of the adrenal glands. This interaction is also likely important for tumorigenesis and progression of adrenocortical cancer and pheochromocytoma. We developed a unique in vitro 3D model of the whole adrenal gland called Adrenoid consisting in adrenocortical carcinoma H295R and pheochromocytoma MTT cell lines. Adrenoids showed a round compact morphology with a growth rate significantly higher compared to MTT-spheroids...

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy with poor prognosis. Its diagnosis requires clinical suspicion and confirmation through laboratory and imaging studies, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and abdominal ultrasound, as well as histological confirmation. Positron emission tomography (PET) is useful for distinguishing between benign and malignant lesions and for evaluating tumor recurrences or metastases. A case is described in which the uptake of fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) in a remnant adrenal gland could be misinterpreted as tumoral pathology...
