Falls in hospital are common and up to 70% result in injury, leading to increased length of stay and accounting for 10% of patient safety-related deaths. Yet, high-quality evidence guiding best practice is lacking. Fall prevention strategies have worked in some trials but not in others. Differences in study setting (acute, subacute, rehabilitation) and sampling of patients (cognitively intact or impaired) may explain the difference in results. The transmembrane rabies virus glycoprotein (RVGP) is the main antigen of vaccine formulations used around the world to prevent rabies, the most lethal preventable infectious disease known. The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of a bioreactor using wave-induced agitation in the initial steps of scaling up the rRVGP production process by a Drosophila melanogaster S2 cell line to produce rRVGP in sufficient quantities for immunization and characterization studies. Glycosylation on the Fc region of recombinant Immunoglobulin G (IgG) therapeutic antibodies is a critical protein quality attribute which may affect the efficacy and safety of the molecule. During the development of biosimilar therapeutics, adjustment of the glycosylation profile is required in order to match the reference innovator profile. Deoxymannojirimycin (DMJ), a known inhibitor of mannosidase, was used in this study to modulate the glycosylation pattern of antibodies.
