INTRODUCTION: Only 3 cases of aorto-cisterna chyli fistula have been described in the literature but none with a resulting pseudoaneurysm (PSA). CASE REPORT: A 68-year-old man presented following a motor vehicle collision. Imaging revealed a retroperitoneal hematoma with enhancement of the cisterna chyli, representing aortic to cisterna chyli fistula. Three days later CTA showed resolution of the fistula, but revealed a PSA. The patient underwent arteriography that confirmed the PSA, and then a CT-guided thrombin injection was performed...

OBJECTIVE: Factors associated with favorable outcome following stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) with cortical venous reflux (CVR) are incompletely understood. The aim of this retrospective cohort study is to assess the outcomes after SRS for high-grade DAVFs and identify predictors. METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of consecutive patients with high-grade DAVFs, defined as the presence of CVR, who underwent SRS between 1989 and 2017...

May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS) is a condition in which the left common iliac vein is compressed by the right common iliac artery, which may cause swelling, pain or deep venous thrombosis of the left lower extremity1 .Post-thrombotic syndrome, non-thrombotic chronic venous insufficiency and recurrence after venous thrombosis are also possible complications. Although MTS combined with left iliac arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is rarely reported, we treated three such cases in the past year.

BACKGROUND: Standard treatment for unresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) without distant metastasis is definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT), in which the incidence of esophageal fistula (EF) is reported to be 10-12%. An ad hoc analysis of JCOG0303, a phase II/III trial of dCRT for patients with unresectable ESCC (including non-T4b), suggested that esophageal stenosis is a risk factor for EF. However, risk factors for EF in patients limited to T4b ESCC treated with dCRT have yet to be clarified...

The cardiac extracellular matrix is a complex architectural network that serves many functions including providing structural and biochemical support to surrounding cells, and regulating intercellular signaling pathways. Cardiac function is directly affected by extracellular matrix (ECM) composition, and alterations of the ECM contribute to progression of heart failure. Initially, collagen deposition is an adaptive response that aims to preserve tissue integrity and maintain normal ventricular function. However, the synergistic effects of the pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic responses induce a vicious cycle which causes excess activation of myofibroblasts, significantly increasing collagen deposition and accumulation in the matrix...

Congestive heart failure (CHF) often leads to progressive cardiac hypertrophy and salt/water retention as evident by peripheral and lung edema. Although the pathogenesis of CHF remains largely unclarified, it is widely accepted that neurohormonal changes and inflammatory processes are profoundly involved in structural and functional deterioration of vital organs including, heart, kidney and lungs. Corin, a cardiac serine protease, is responsible for converting pro-ANP and pro-BNP to biologically active natriuretic peptides (NPs)...

Pancreatic fistula is one of the most severe complications after pancreatic surgeries. The risk of pancreatic fistula after distal pancreatectomy is up to 60%. Effective methods to prevent pancreatic fistula are still sought. A unified definition of pancreatic fistula, which was introduced in 2005 by the International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS), has allowed for an easier diagnosis and determination of fistula severity, as well as for a reliable inter-center comparison of data. Furthermore, a number of publications point out the risk factors of pancreatic fistula, which may be classified into patient-related risk factors, such as MBI, gender, smoking tobacco or pancreatic structure; and surgery-related risk factors, such as blood loss, prolonged surgery and non-underpinning of the major pancreatic duct...

BACKGROUND: Cervical lymphadenitis is the most common manifestation of infection with nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in immunocompetent children. Nevertheless, it is poorly known by dermatologists. Its incidence, which is currently increasing since the cessation of BCG vaccination in 2007, raises several issues regarding its pathophysiology, diagnosis and management. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report two cases of NTM adenitis: one in a 2-year-old girl vaccinated with BCG and one in an unvaccinated 22-month-old boy, in whom a misleading presentation led to delayed diagnosis...
