This article aims to explore the ethical issues arising from attempts to diversify genomic data and include individuals from underserved groups in studies exploring the relationship between genomics and health. We employed a qualitative synthesis design, combining data from three sources: 1) a rapid review of empirical articles published between 2000 and 2022 with a primary or secondary focus on diversifying genomic data, or the inclusion of underserved groups and ethical issues arising from this, 2) an expert workshop and 3) a narrative review...

In GEMINI-1/-2, dolutegravir + lamivudine was non-inferior to dolutegravir + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) in achieving viral suppression (viral load [VL] < 50 copies/mL) in treatment-naive adults. Abbott's RealTime HIV-1 assay provides quantitative VL (40-10,000,000 copies/mL) and qualitative target detected or target not detected (TND) for VL < 40 copies/mL. This post hoc analysis assessed very-low-level viremia and "blips" through Week 144. Proportions with VL < 40 copies/mL and TND are presented overall and by baseline VL and CD4+ cell count...

We report the first NMR and X-ray diffraction (XRD) structures of an unusual 13/11-helix (alternating i, i+1 {NH-O=C} and i, i+3 {C=O-H-N} H-bonds) formed by a heteromeric 1 : 1 sequence of α- and δ-amino acids, and demonstrate the application of this framework towards catalysis. Whilst intramolecular hydrogen bonds (IMHBs) are the clear driver of helix formation in this system, we also observe an apolar interaction between the ethyl residue of one δ-amino acid and the cyclohexyl group of the next δ-residue in the sequence that seems to stabilize one type of helix over another...

The neurogenomic mechanisms mediating male-male reproductive cooperative behaviours remain unknown. We leveraged extensive transcriptomic and behavioural data on a neotropical bird species (Pipra filicauda) that performs cooperative courtship displays to understand these mechanisms. In this species, the cooperative display is modulated by testosterone, which promotes cooperation in non-territorial birds, but suppresses cooperation in territory holders. We sought to understand the neurogenomic underpinnings of three related traits: social status, cooperative display behaviour and testosterone phenotype...

BACKGROUND: The value that might be added to local economies each year through the money that people who smoke tobacco would save if everyone quit smoking is called the 'smoke-free dividend'. This study aimed to estimate the value of the smoke-free dividend across local areas in England, and how it relates to the average income in those areas. METHODS: The study was a cross-sectional descriptive analysis of tobacco expenditure from the Smoking Toolkit Study (STS) matched to income and smoking prevalence data for English local authorities...

INTRODUCTION: Research on the dimensional structure of subjective well-being (SWB) suggests a five-dimensional solution, consisting of the three established dimensions of life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect, and two additional empirically supported dimensions: domain satisfaction and happiness. While these dimensions can be aggregated into a superordinate SWB construct, little research has explored how these dimensions differ in their variation across subpopulations of individuals...

PURPOSE: Impaired fetal lung vasculature determines the degree of pulmonary hypertension in the congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). This study aims to demonstrate the morphometric measurements that differ in pulmonary vessels of fetuses with CDH. METHODS: Nitrofen-induced CDH Sprague-Dawley rat fetuses were scanned with microcomputed tomography. The analysis of the pulmonary vascular tree was performed with artificial intelligence. RESULTS: The number of segments in CDH was significantly lower than that in the control group on the left (U = 2...

Spectator ions have known and emerging roles in aqueous metal-cation chemistry, respectively directing solubility, speciation, and reactivity. Here, we isolate and structurally characterize the last two metastable members of the alkali uranyl triperoxide series, the Rb+ and Cs+ salts (Cs-U1 and Rb-U1). We document their rapid solution polymerization via small-angle X-ray scattering, which is compared to the more stable Li+, Na+ and K+ analogues. To understand the role of the alkalis, we also quantify alkali-hydroxide promoted peroxide deprotonation and decomposition, which generally exhibits increasing reactivity with increasing alkali size...

We present a case of persistent complete atrioventricular block that occurred during the diagnostic portion of a premature ventricular contractions' radiofrequency ablation in a complex heart failure patient. The case was managed by bailout deep left ventricular septal pacing after bipolar radiofrequency elimination of premature ventricular contractions.

Vaginal evisceration is a rare surgical emergency in which intra-abdominal contents protrude through a dehisced vaginal cuff, which can lead to bowel ischemia and abdominal sepsis. This condition occurs due to vaginal cuff weakness secondary to prior surgeries or trauma. Recurrence after repair is rare and few cases have been documented. Here we present a young woman with multiple prior gynecologic surgeries who presented with eviscerated small bowel and omentum from her vagina five months following surgical treatment of a previous vaginal evisceration...

Defining prognostic variables in T-lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LL) remains a challenge. AALL1231 was a COG phase 3 clinical trial for newly diagnosed with T Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia or T-LL patients randomizing children and young adults to a modified augmented BFM backbone to receive standard therapy (Arm A) or with addition of bortezomib (Arm B). Optional bone marrow (BM) samples to assess minimal residual disease (MRD) at the end of induction (EOI) were collected in T-LL analyzed to assess the correlation of MRD at the EOI to event-free survival (EFS)...
