Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcomas. MPNST diagnosis is made based on biopsy, but distinct features are present on ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We present a case of a 24-year-old man presenting with abdominal pain and lower-extremity weakness found to have a large MPNST originating from the left femoral nerve and describe findings on imaging and their histopathologic correlation.

BACKGROUND: The retraction of medical articles periodically occurs in most medical journals and can involve multiple article types. These retractions are beneficial if they remove flawed or fraudulent information from the medical literature. However, retractions may also decrease confidence in the medical literature and require significant amounts of time by editors. METHODS: One publisher (Hindawi) announced that it will retract over 1200 articles. Given this, the PubMed database was searched to identify retracted publications on or related to COVID-19, and articles retracted by journals sponsored by the publisher Hindawi were then identified...

Interstitial keratitis is defined as nonulcerative inflammation of the corneal stroma resulting from a bacterial or viral infection, parasitic antigen, or autoimmune response. Hidradenitis suppurativa is an inflammatory skin condition that presents with painful and inflamed boils in apocrine gland-bearing regions of the body, typically with onset around puberty, and ocular comorbidities exist in only a small percentage of these patients. Herein, we describe a unique ocular presentation of hidradenitis suppurativa including pronounced bilateral interstitial keratitis and association with high titer c-ANCA (antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies)...

INTRODUCTION: The degree of bone involvement in mandibular squamous cell carcinoma has a significant impact on surgical planning. The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for the evaluation of invasion by mandibular squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted to identify subjects treated for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). All subjects had OSCC adjacent or fixed to the mandible, received preoperative CBCT and multislice computed tomography scan (MSCT), and had resection specimens that included bone...

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem inflammatory condition presenting with the formation of noncaseating granulomas. These granulomas can be found in nearly every organ of the body, but in 90% of cases the lungs are involved. Osseous manifestations are seen in only 3% to 13% of cases and are typically seen alongside the more common pulmonary manifestations. These lesions can be misdiagnosed as metastatic cancer so biopsy, along with clinical correlation and exclusion of other diseases, is necessary to make the diagnosis...

BACKGROUND: Fibrocystic breast changes (FCCs) are benign lesions thought to be caused by an increased estrogen-to-progesterone ratio. One of the most common endocrinopathies that increases this ratio is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Although nonproliferative FCCs do not increase the risk of breast cancer, they can make mammographic detection of malignancy in postmenopausal women more difficult. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of PCOS on the development of postmenopausal FCCs...

Physician trainees receive anonymous written feedback about their clinical performance, which can be challenging to interpret. Negative written feedback can evoke a strong emotional response. An educational gap exists on how to handle receiving negative written feedback and the accompanying emotions. Teaching trainees the tenets of emotional intelligence, including emotional self-awareness and self-management, could be an avenue to improve the experience of receiving feedback. Face-to-face coaching may also help improve the emotional experience of receiving written feedback...

Uterus transplantation (UTx) has evolved from a purely experimental procedure to a clinical treatment option available outside the clinical trial context, offering women with absolute uterine-factor infertility an opportunity to experience pregnancy. As UTx becomes better established and more widely known and performed, it is likely to be sought out by geographically and culturally diverse patients, particularly those whose religious beliefs impose barriers to other paths to achieve parenthood, such as gestational surrogacy and adoption...

BACKGROUND: Diagnosing atypical glandular cells (AGC) is a significant challenge in cytomorphology. METHODS: A retrospective study was undertaken to assess the prevalence of AGC and the subsequent histological outcomes over 5 years at a single institution. RESULTS: A total of 159,649 ThinPrep Pap tests, including 395 cases of AGC, were retrieved, of which 330 AGC cases had follow-up histopathology. Among these 330 cases, 43.9% were classified as AGC not otherwise specified, followed by AGC-endocervical cells at 33...

A visiting surgeon described his disappointment with an aspect of the Mayo Clinic in 1914, stating that there was "the almost lack of anything that could be dignified by the term 'lecture.'" One year later, the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research was founded. By 1917, the foundation declared history of medicine a graduate-level subject, and history of medicine questions were included in final oral examinations. In 1920 and 1921, lectures were given on historical topics; however, these lectures petered out, and there were no historical lectures in the official curriculum of 1923 or 1924...

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to identify patient characteristics associated with acute kidney injury (AKI) post-coronary angiography with or without percutaneous coronary intervention. METHODS: This retrospective, single-center study analyzed 350 patients from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018. The primary endpoint was AKI, defined as a rise in creatinine >0.3 mg/dL within 48 hours of coronary angiography. RESULTS: AKI occurred in 41 of 350 patients (8...
