We describe an organophotoredox-catalyzed sp3 C-S coupling of N -sulfinylamines with bench-stable alkyltrifluoroborates as a latent nucleophilic counterpart en route to alkylsulfinamides in high efficiency. In contrast to the two-electron reactivity of traditional organometallic reagents, this catalytic method reports the single-electron process of an organometallic reagent with N -sulfinylamines in C-S coupling. This mild and scalable protocol offers operational simplicity and exceptional functional group compatibility, including ketone, ester, amide, nitrile, and halides, that is vulnerable to organolithium or Grignard reagents...

Alkyl borane compounds-mediated polymerizations have expanded to Lewis pair polymerization, free radical polymerization, ionic ring-opening polymerization, and polyhomologation. The bifunctional organoborane catalysts that contain the Lewis acid and ammonium or phosphonium salt in one molecule have demonstrated superior catalytic performance for ring-opening polymerization of epoxides and ring-opening copolymerization of epoxides and CO2 than their two-component analogues, i.e., the blend of organoborane and ammonium or phosphonium salt...

Ansamycins, represented by the antituberculosis drug rifamycin, are an important family of natural products. To obtain new ansamycins, Streptomyces rapamycinicus IMET 43975 harboring an ansamycin biosynthetic gene cluster was fermented in a 50 L scale, and subsequent purification work led to the isolation of five known and four new analogues, where hygrocin W ( 2 ) belongs to benzoquinonoid ansamycins, and the other three hygrocins, hygrocins X-Z ( 6 - 8 ), are new seco-hygrocins. The structures of ansamycins ( 1 - 8 ) were determined by the analysis of spectroscopic (1D/2D NMR and ECD) and MS spectrometric data...

We previously described NMR based fingerprint matching with peptide backbone resonances as a fast and reliable structural dereplication approach for Pseudomonas cyclic lipodepsipeptides (CLiPs). In combination with total synthesis of a small library of configurational CLiP congeners this also allows unambiguous determination of stereochemistry, facilitating structure-activity relationship studies and enabling three-dimensional structure determination. However, the on-resin macrocycle formation in the synthetic workflow brings considerable burden and limits universal applicability...

BACKGROUND: Xylella fastidiosa is a multi-host bacterium that can be detected in hundreds of plant species including several crops. Diseases caused by X. fastidiosa are considered a threat to global food production. The primary method for managing diseases caused by X. fastidiosa involves using insecticides to control the vector. Hence, it is necessary to adopt new and sustainable disease management technologies to control not only the insect but also the bacteria and plant health. We demonstrated that N-Acetylcysteine (NAC), a low-cost cysteine analogue, is a sustainable molecule that can be used in agriculture to decrease the damage caused by X...

The formation of transient structures plays important roles in biological processes, capturing temporary states of matter through influx of energy or biological reaction networks catalyzed by enzymes. These natural transient structures inspire efforts to mimic this elegant mechanism of structural control in synthetic analogues. Specifically, though traditional supramolecular materials are designed on the basis of equilibrium formation, recent efforts have explored out-of-equilibrium control of these materials using both direct and indirect mechanisms; the preponderance of such works has been in the area of low molecular weight gelators...

New antimicrobial scaffolds are scarce, and there is a great need for the development of novel therapeutics. In this study, we report a convergent 9-step synthesis of leopolic acid A and a series of targeted analogues. The designed compounds allowed for incorporation of non-natural ureido dipeptide moieties and 4- and 5-position substituents around the 2,3-pyrrolidinedione of leopolic acid A. Leopolic acid A displayed modest antimicrobial activity (32 μg/mL) against MRSA, while the most active analogues displayed slightly improved activity (8-16 μg/mL)...

To identify the compounds that contribute to the diverse flavours of table grapes, the flavours and volatile compounds of 38 grape cultivars harvested over 3 years are evaluated through sensory analysis and solvent-assisted flavour evaporation (SAFE). The cultivars are characterized and grouped into seven clusters by hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) using sensory evaluation data with a flavour wheel specific to table grapes. These clusters were similar to conventional flavour classifications, except that the foxy and neutral cultivars form multiple clusters, highlighting the flavour diversity of table grapes...
