To understand the clinical and imaging manifestations and the treatment and follow-up of hepatic tuberculosis (HTB), we retrospectively analysed the clinical and imaging data of 29 patients with HTB who had been diagnosed clinically or by biopsy, and the clinical and imaging data had been summarised. Patient characteristics were followed up after anti-TB drug treatment. The median age of the 29 patients with HTB was 37 years, and most were male (58.6%). The patient's symptoms included fever (48.2%), respiratory symptoms (27...

Bacterial infections constitute an always growing health problem worldwide. The resistance to antibiotics of an increasing number of bacterial pathogens necessitates a permanent search for new molecules with different mechanisms of action. Histidine biosynthesis is an ancient pathway found in bacteria, archaebacteria, fungi and plants but absent in mammals. This feature makes it very interesting for the study of new strategies aimed to develop novel classes of antibacterial agents. In particular, one of the enzymes involved in the histidine biosynthesis, i...

Research into and identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis can take on a number of facets, many of which involve the use of DNA at one stage or another. The quality and quantity of DNA required will depend on the end-use requirement. For example, good yields of pure, high-molecular-weight DNA uncontaminated by DNA from other sources (i.e., homogeneous) are optimal for the generation of cosmid libraries and sequencing (1), Southern hybridization (2-6), or microarray analysis (7) for genome studies, whereas relatively crude DNA (fragmented DNA or DNA from multiple sources [i...

Nine patients with pulmonary tuberculosis underwent open chest surgery for pulmonary lesions of tuberculosis or other than tubercolosis. They were 1 case of lung cancer, 4 cases of pneumothorax, 1 case of multi drug resistant pulmonary tuberculosis and 3 cases of tuberculoma. Postoperative complications developed in 3 cases including 2 of pneumothorax and 1 of lung collapse.

Surgery for pulmonary tubercolosis (PTB) is now the second place treatment. Among the surgical indications the most debated is the multi-drug resistance of a focal pulmonary tuberculous disease. Other indications are: bronchiectasis, hemoptysis and the presence of a broncho-pleural fistula. Pulmonary Aspergilloma is a frequent indication for surgery; it is commonly a PTB sequela and causes severe complications. The presence of an unknown pulmonary mass or nodule is a surgical criterion because it might signal a cancer...
