Trace minerals are extremely important for balanced nutrition, growth, and development in animals and humans. Phytic acid chelation promotes the use of probiotics in nutrition. The phytic acid-degrading strain Lactococcus lactis psm16 was obtained from swine milk by enrichment culture and direct plate methods. In this study, we evaluated the effect of the strain psm16 on mineral element content in a mouse model. Mice were divided into four groups: basal diet, 1% phytic acid, 1% phytic acid + psm16, 1% phytic acid + 500 U/kg commercial phytase...

Haloxylon scoparium is a plant widely used in traditional medicine for the treatment of diabetes. Hence, this study focuses on the mineralogical and chemical composition and evaluation of the antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of the aerial part of this species. The mineralogical analysis was done by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The phytochemical study consisted in the preparation of different extracts from the aerial part by aqueous and organic extraction using Soxhlet and cold maceration...

Electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) and waste pickle liquor (WPL); two major side products of the steel industry with negative environmental impact were used for the synthesis of nickel zinc ferrite (NZF); the important magnetic ceramic material of versatile industrial applications. The structural and magnetic properties of the prepared material were examined which showed good magnetic properties (high saturation magnetization and low coercivity) compared with those synthesized from pure reagents. In the applied process, nano sized nickel zinc ferrite (NZF) with a composition of Nix (Zn + impurities)1-x Fe2 O4 (where x = 0, 0...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Lead (Pb) has been reported to disturb the metabolism of essential elements, such as calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) in vivo. This study focused on the relationship between various dose of Pb and the essential elements. METHODS: 50 healthy male C57BL/6 mice underwent oral administration of 0.2 mL lead acetate trihydrate solution (0, 20, 100, 500, and 1000 mg Pb/day/kg body weight) for 3 days. The concentrations of Pb and four essential elements (Ca, Zn, Fe and Mg) in the blood, kidney, liver, bone and brain were quantified with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry...

Mosses are frequently used to monitor atmospheric metal contamination but few studies on metal adsorption under controlled conditions are available. Here, the accumulation of the heavy metals copper and zinc was studied in the acrocarp moss Atrichum undulatum. An in vitro culture of A. undulatum was established and the same line, size and equally old remets were exposed to six different treatments representing various metal exposure times and washing scenarios as rain simulation. The metal treatments were done in copper and zinc salts (Cu-acetate, CuSO4 , ZnSO4 and ZnCl2 , respectively)...

Cadmium (Cd) is an environmental pollutant shown to induce multi organ dysfunction. In this study we present novel data about the effects of meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), monensin and salinomycin on the concentration of Cd in skeletal muscles of mice exposed to Cd (II) acetate treatment for 14 days. The impact of Cd and the chelating agents on the endogenous concentrations of calcium (Ca), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), magnesium (Mg), phosphorous (P), selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) was also investigated. Subacute exposure of mice to Cd (II) acetate resulted in a significant accumulation of the toxic metal ion in the skeletal muscles compared to the untreated controls...

Therefore to break the cycle of viable transmission STH eggs must be quantitatively detected in the environment. The effect of different reagents on the viability of Ascaris suum eggs during laboratory detection and quantification was assessed and different incubation solutions compared. Sulphuric acid gave a slightly higher recovery percentage of viable eggs (91...

DMP with degree of amidation of 48.72% was initially accomplished and characterized by FTIR, DSC and XRD analyses. MFM-loaded core matrices were then fabricated by ionotropic gelation technique employing zinc acetate as cross-linker. However, current standards (European Pharmacopeia [EP], United States Pharmacopoeia [USP], International Organization for Standardization [ISO], YBB concerned with rubber closures) only require testing for Zn in pharmaceutical-grade rubber stoppers and then using only pure water as a solvent. We extracted and quantified heavy metals and trace elements from pharmaceutical-grade rubber stoppers under conditions that might occur during the preparation of drugs...

The use of microbial extracts containing plant hormones is a promising technique to improve crop growth. Little is known about the effect of bacterial cell-free extracts on plant growth promotion. This study, based on phytohormonal analyses, aimed at exploring the potential mechanisms by which Enterococcus faecium LKE12 enhances plant growth in oriental melon. A bacterial strain, LKE12, was isolated from soil, and further identified as E. faecium by 16S rDNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. The plant growth-promoting ability of an LKE12 bacterial culture was tested in a gibberellin (GA)-deficient rice dwarf mutant (waito-C) and a normal GA biosynthesis rice cultivar (Hwayongbyeo)...

Novel magnesium and zinc phthalocyaninates, bearing four lateral electron-rich 15-crown-5-oxanthrene fragments, were synthesized starting from benzo-15-crown-5. Being almost insoluble in common organic solvents, these complexes could be solubilised by interaction with potassium acetate due to the formation of well-defined cofacial supramolecular dimers. A characteristic feature of these dimers is the presence of additional bands in their UV-Vis spectra, which affords the expansion of light absorption region up to ∼750 nm...

Lignocellulosic biomass is a potential substrate for ethanol production. However, pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials produces inhibitory compounds such as acetic acid, which negatively affect ethanol production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Supplementation of the medium with three metal ions (Zn(2+) , Mg(2+) , and Ca(2+) ) increased the tolerance of S. cerevisiae toward acetic acid compared to the absence of the ions. Ethanol production from xylose was most improved (by 34%) when the medium was supplemented with 2 mM Ca(2+) , followed by supplementation with 3...
