In recent decades, a lot of research has been conducted to explore poultry feeding behavior. However, up to now, the processes behind poultry feeding behavior remain poorly understood. The review generalizes modern expertise about the hormonal regulation of feeding behavior in chickens, focusing on signaling pathways mediated by insulin, leptin, and ghrelin and regulatory pathways with a cross-reference to mammals. This overview also summarizes state-of-the-art research devoted to hypothalamic neuropeptides that control feed intake and are prime candidates for predictors of feeding efficiency...

Ectopic ACTH-secreting pheochromocytoma is a very rare cause of Cushing´s syndrome, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We here report the case of a female patient with suspected severe Cushing´s syndrome associated with melanoderma, arterial hypertension resistant to triple therapy and unbalanced diabetes treated with insulin therapy. Biologically, urinary ethoxylated, 24-hour urinary free cortisol and ACTH were very high. Imaging showed a 3.5 cm left adrenal mass. The patient underwent left adrenalectomy after medical preparation, with good clinico-biological outcome...

OBJECTIVE: The relationship between oxidative stress (OS), insulin resistance (IR), and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an important medical issue in human reproduction. Some of the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) genes have been previously studied in granulosa and muscle cells of PCOS patients. Cumulus cells (CCs) remain close to the oocyte even after ovulation. This research has been designed to compare the expression of OXPHOS genes in CCs of PCOS, with or without insulin resistance...

The generation of insulin-producing cells (IPCs) is an attractive approach for replacing damaged β cells in diabetic patients. In the present work, we introduced a hybrid platform of decellularized amniotic membrane (dAM) and fibrin encapsulation for differentiating adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) into IPCs. ASCs were isolated from healthy donors and characterized. Human AM was decellularized, and its morphology, DNA, collagen, glycosaminoglycan (GAG) contents, and biocompatibility were evaluated...

BACKGROUND: Obesity, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) pose a triple burden in India. Almost two-thirds of people with diabetes (PWD) in India are found to have suboptimal glycemic, blood pressure, and lipid control. Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) in diabetes has emphasized on the amount and type of carbohydrates for years. However, protein, an important macronutrient in diabetes management, needs to be focused upon, especially in India, where the consumption is found to be lower than the recommendations provided by most guidelines...

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrinologic and gynecologic disorder that affects women of reproductive age; besides, insulin resistance (IR) occurs in 50-70 % of PCOS cases. Metformin (Met) is commonly prescribed for IR management; however, it does not affect IR with some gastrointestinal symptoms. Spirulina platensis (SP) is a blue-green alga that may increase insulin sensitivity. Therefore, our study aims to evaluate SP as an alternative treatment to Met for improving glucose homeostasis by assessing the expression of 11 crucial genes involved in the insulin signaling pathway...

BACKGROUND: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, a novel surrogate indicator for insulin resistance (IR), is believed to be associated with various diseases. However, its connection with cognitive decline remains controversy. METHODS: The PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Medline databases were systematically searched up to October 2023 to assess the association between the TyG index and the risk of cognitive decline. Effect estimates and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-effects model...

OBJECTIVE: Sulfonylureas (SUs) are still among the mostly prescribed antidiabetic drugs with an established mode of action: release of insulin from pancreatic β-cells. In addition, effects of SUs on adipocytes by activation of the nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) have been described, which might explain their insulin-sensitizing potential observed in patients. However, there is a discrepancy between the impact of SUs on antidiabetic action and their rather moderate in vitro effect on PPARγ transcriptional activity...

Isolation of rodents throughout adolescence is known to induce many behavioral abnormalities which resemble neuropsychiatric disorders. Separately, this paradigm has also been shown to induce long-term metabolic changes consistent with a pre-diabetic state. Here, we investigate changes in central serotonin (5-HT) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) neurobiology that dually accompany behavioral and metabolic outcomes following social isolation stress throughout adolescence. We find that adolescent-isolation mice exhibit elevated blood glucose levels, impaired peripheral insulin signaling, altered pancreatic function, and fattier body composition without changes in bodyweight...
