The crystal structures of four indole derivatives with various substituents at the 2-, 3- and 5-positions of the ring system are described, namely, ethyl 3-(5-chloro-2-phenyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-3-phenyl-propano-ate, C25H22ClNO2, (I), 2-bromo-3-(2-nitro-1-phenyl-eth-yl)-1H-indole, C16H13BrN2O2, (II), 5-meth-oxy-3-(2-nitro-1-phenyl-eth-yl)-2-phenyl-1H-indole, C23H20N2O3, (III), and 5-chloro-3-(2-nitro-1-phenyl-eth-yl)-2-phenyl-1H-indole, C22H17ClN2O2, (IV). The dominant inter-molecular inter-action in each case is an N-H⋯O hydrogen bond, which generates either chains or inversion dimers...

SESSION TITLE: Miscellaneous Case Report Posters ISESSION TYPE: Affiliate Case Report PosterPRESENTED ON: Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 01:30 PM - 02:30 PMINTRODUCTION: Pneumomediastinum is typically secondary to asthma, barotrauma from Valsalva maneuvers, iatrogenic injuries from endoscopy or surgery, or from life-threatening etiologies such as esophageal rupture and tension pneumothorax. Pneumorachis, the presence of intraspinal air, is typically seen after trauma or surgical instrumentation...

RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL

AIMS: Because smoking cessation rates might be improved by combining drugs and by reducing post-cessation weight gain, we tested the smoking cessation efficacy, safety and effect on body weight of adding the nicotine patch to rimonabant, a cannabanoid type-1 receptor antagonist that reduces body weight. DESIGN: Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial. SETTING: Fifteen US research centers. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 755 smokers (> OR = 15 cigarettes/day)...

Recent aggregation of evidence for the roles of endogenous agonist and receptor systems that are mimicked or activated by cannabanoid ligands has provided a focus for work that has elucidated details of some of the multiple physiological roles and pharmacological functions that these systems play in brain and peripheral tissues. This chapter reviews some of the approaches to improved elucidation of these systems, with special focus on the human genes that encode cannabanoid receptors and the variants in these receptors that appear likely to contribute to human addiction vulnerabilities...
