Combining traditional Chinese medicine theory and modern medical knowledge, this study explores the pathogenesis of sudden hearing loss in middle-aged and young people. Sixty-four young and middle-aged patients with sudden hearing loss who visited a public tertiary hospital in China are chosen as experimental objects. All experimental patients are broken into an experimental group (n = 32) and a control group (n = 32). The control group receive conventional Western medicine treatment regimen. The experimental group receive select acupoint acupuncture and bloodletting combined with Rosenthal effect for psychological intervention, and both groups have a treatment course of 14 days...

BACKGROUND: Daith piercing is a special ear-piercing method that punctures the crus of the helix. The penetrated site at the ear's innermost point is assumed to stimulate a pressure point associated with the vagus nerve. It has been reported that the pierced spot relieves migraine and tension-type headaches by activating vagal afferents, leading to the inhibition of neurons in the caudal trigeminal nucleus via the nucleus tractus solitarii. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this narrative literature review is to summarize the current state of knowledge concerning daith piercing for the treatment of migraine and tension-type headaches from the perspectives of the Chinese and Western auricular systems...

Facial neuritis is a common clinical disease with high incidence, also known as Bell palsy or idiopathic facial nerve paralysis, which is an acute onset of peripheral facial neuropathy. In modern medicine, there have been obstacles to the effective treatment of facial neuritis. At present, the clinical use of Western medicine treatment is also a summary of clinical experience, the reason is that the cause of facial neuritis is unknown. Facial neuritis belongs to the category of "facial paralysis" in traditional Chinese medicine...

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on cognitive recovery and synaptic remodeling in a rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) followed by reperfusion and explore the possible mechanism. METHOD: Focal cerebral ischemia was modeled in healthy adult Sprague-Dawley rats by MCAO. The MCAO rats were classified into four groups: sham, MCAO, MCAO + GB20 (receiving EA at GB20) and MCAO + NA (receiving EA at a "non-acupoint" location not corresponding to any traditional acupuncture point location about 10 mm above the iliac crest)...

Fecal incontinence has emerged as a global health concern. This article explores an integrative medical model for fecal incontinence by illustrating its conceptual framework and scope, drawing from multidisciplinary consensus and guidelines developed over the past three decades, both internationally and through personal reflection. This integrative medical model is patient-centered, emphasizes the patient's role in treatment decision-making, and recognizes the value of patient-reported outcomes measure. The incorporation of multidisciplinary assessment tools such as the IMPACT scale promises to enhance the standards of clinical practice and research...
