Machine/deep learning has been widely used for big data analysis in the field of healthcare, but it is still a question to ensure both computation efficiency and data security/confidentiality for the protection of private information. Referring to the data-sharing function of the federated learning (FedL) model, we propose an optimized data-sharing FedL (DSFedL) framework via a data-sharing hub by evaluating an accuracy-privacy loss function. When applied to the derived non-identically and independently distributed (nonIID) datasets simulated from three open-source cardiothoracic databases (i...

The investigation collected 50 random water samples from wells and bore holes in the five wards. In the meantime, the Water Quality Index (WQI) in this region was assessed using a novel machine learning model. In this sphere of science, the Emotional Artificial Neural Network (EANN) was used as an innovative technique. The training dataset comprised 80% of the available data, while the remaining 20% was used to assess the performance of the network. The laboratory analysis revealed that the levels of magnesium (0...

To improve the path optimization effect and search efficiency of ant colony optimization (ACO), an improved ant colony algorithm is proposed. A collar path is generated based on the known environmental information to avoid the blindness search at early planning. The effect of the ending point and the turning point is introduced to improve the heuristic information for high search efficiency. The adaptive adjustment of the pheromone intensity value is introduced to optimize the pheromone updating strategy. A variety of control strategies for updating the parameters are given to balance the convergence and global search ability...

Multi-drug resistance remains a critical issue in cancer treatment that hinders the effective use of chemotherapeutic drugs. The active components of traditional Chinese medicine have been applied as adjuvants to accentuate the anticancer properties of conventional drugs such as cisplatin. However, their application requires further validation and optimization. This study explored the anticancer activity of β-elemene, a natural component of traditional Chinese medical formulations. The effect of β-elemene on the anticancer properties of cisplatin was evaluated in A549 and NCI-H1650 lung cancer cells...

Access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities is a basic necessity for human livelihood, survival, and well-being. Adequate WASH facilities provision is a critical issue to most developing countries around the world including Nigeria. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding WASH are integral to effective and sustainable WASH facilities provision. This study assessed the level of knowledge, behavior, and practices towards water, sanitation, and hygiene in Kaduna state, Nigeria, with a view to ensuring sustainable WASH facilities intervention in the region...

Cognitive impairment (CI) refers to dysfunctional cognition, which encompasses a spectrum of disorders, ranging from mild cognitive impairment to dementia. Any factor that results in cortical damage may cause CI. Total flavonoids of Selaginella pulvinata (TFSP), have shown promising antioxidant and protective effects in animal models. In the present study, mice were intraperitoneally treated with scopolamine, sodium nitrite or 45% ethanol to induce memory impairment, and the effects were assessed using a step-down test...

β-elemene has been evidenced to suppress the development of numerous cancers including lung cancer. Previous research has found that in A549 cells, β-elemene increased the expression of AMPKα, which negatively regulates the Warburg effect. Bioinformatics predicted that binding sites exist between AMPKα and miR-301a-3p, a miRNA that has shown oncogenic function in many cancers. The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of β-elemene on the Warburg effect in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells and its mechanism...

Operational planning of interventions defines roadmaps, timelines and resources necessary for translating policies into expected health outcomes along the evidence-policy-implementation continuum. However, bottlenecks often hinder the attainment of objectives and the timely delivery of intervention packages leading to sub-optimal performance of health systems. Bottleneck identification, analysis and removal approaches to planning, which requires key stakeholders' participation, have been recommended to improve health system outcomes in LMICs...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Aedes aegypti is an important vector for transmission of dengue, yellow fever, chikun- gunya, arthritis, and Zika fever. According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that Ae. aegypti causes 50 million infections and 25,000 deaths per year. Use of larvicidal agents is one of the recommendations of health organizations to control mosquito populations and limit their distribution. The aim of present study was to deduce a mathematical model to predict the larvicidal action of chemical compounds, based on their structure...

The results showed significant association of CFH (compliment factor H) gene polymorphism with increase (rs1061170, rs514943 and rs380390) or decrease (rs529825, rs7524776, rs1831281, rs2274700, rs1576340, rs12144939, rs7540032) of CNV development risk. This paper is focused on selected problems of postdiploma training of experts for forensic chemical departments of bureaus of forensic medical examination. The main drawbacks of the existing system of advanced education for such specialists are the narrow spectrum of pharmaceutical disciplines and the lack of internship training for future experts for forensic chemical departments. Other interfering factors are conflicting situations arising in the course of forensic chemical examination at bureaus of forensic medical examination and chemical-toxicological investigations carried out in clinical and diagnostic laboratories by specialists having diploma of higher education in pharmacia...

Anatomic approaches to the jugular ganglia, which are used at autopsy of adults with craniospinal injury, have been adapted to those at autopsy of infants. In the neonates and babies less than 3 months of age, layer-by-layer separation of soft tissues of the neck is applied and the mandibular angle is removed along with the articular process. The upper cervical portion of the vague nerve is excised together with soft tissues and ganglia of jugular foramens. In babies above 3 months of age, two parallel saw cuts are used to cross the bulk of the occipital bone from its edges to those of the jugular foramen on each side after lancing the vertebral column and removing the occipital bone...
