OBJECTIVE: To identify the CT and MR imaging differences between intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with invasions to biliary tracts. METHODS: Eighteen patients with ICC and 32 HCC patients with invasions to biliary tracts confirmed by postoperative pathological diagnosis were enrolled in the study. All of the patients underwent CT or MR examinations. The image features about the tumor and the biliary tracts were analyzed retrospectively...

OBJECTIVE: To determine the factors prognostics of early mortality in the malignant billary estenosis after the endoscopic derivation. BACKGROUND DATA: The surgical, percutaneous or endoscopic derivation is the alternative of palliative treatment in the biliary obstruction unresectable. The factors prognostic the early mortality after surgical derivation are: hemoglobin < 10 g/dL, serum bilirubin > 10 mg/dL and serum albumin < 2.5 g/dL; for the percutaneous derivation they are the sanguineous urea more of 4...

In Perú three are the parasites which affect frequently the liver: Entamoeba histolytica, Echinococcus granulosus and hepatic Fasciola.Amebic liver abscess can start acutely or insidiously with fever and right upper quadrant abdominal pain, with or without liver or intercostal tenderness. The main complications are thoracic, peritoneal or pericardial extension (left lobe abscess). Diagnosis by images study and serology techniques are effective. Currently, Metronidazole is the treatment of choice.Hydatid liver cyst is usually asymptornatic until it produces a mass effect, allergic reactions or a cyst infection occurs as a result of rupture of the cyst to the billary ducts...

Gray-scale ultrasound can be useful in the diagnosis of extrahepatic obstructive jaundice by the demonstration of dilatation of the biliary tree. The present study was undertaken to test the specificity and sensitivity of gray-scale ultrasound (US) in the detection of dilation of intrahepatic bile ducts, as compared to percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC). Forty-seven patients were studied prospectively by both techniques. In 23 patients demonstrated by PTC to have dilated intrahepatic ducts, 18 were detected by US...

The relative merits of three radiopharmaceuticals for evaluating liver transplant patients were determined in paired studies. In 86% of studies both 131I-RB and 99mTc-PG gave similar information for differentiation of hepatocellular disease and billary tract obstruction. 99mTc-PG probably demonstrates the biliary tract and small intestine better early after injection (8%); 131I-RB is probably better in showing the colon at 24 hours when intestinal activity is not seen by 1 hour (6%). 99mTc-diethyl-IDA is superior in all respects when compared to 99mTc-PG...

The effect of alfalfa, bran, and cellulose on intestinal tumor formation and fecal billary steroid levels was studied in male Sprague-Dawley rats given injections of azoxymethane (AOM). Animals received weekly injections of 8 mg AOM/kg and were fed diets containing 10% fiber (wt/wt) and 35% beef fat or 20 or 30% fiber and about 6% beef fat. Control animals in each instance were fed fiber-free diets. The addition of 10% fiber to the high-fat diet did not significantly reduce the intestinal tumor frequency (average No...
