Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) is the most common form of congenital paralytic strabismus in humans and can result from α2-chimaerin (CHN1) missense mutations. We report a knockin α2-chimaerin mouse (Chn1KI/KI) that models DRS. Whole embryo imaging of Chn1KI/KI mice revealed stalled abducens nerve growth and selective trochlear and first cervical spinal nerve guidance abnormalities. Stalled abducens nerve bundles did not reach the orbit, resulting in secondary aberrant misinnervation of the lateral rectus muscle by the oculomotor nerve...

This study investigated the relationships between a list of 23 protein biomarkers with CIE-L*a*b* meat color traits and ultimate pH on Longissimus thoracis and Rectus abdominis muscles of 48 PDO Maine-Anjou cows. The technological parameters were correlated with several biomarkers and were in some cases muscle-dependent. More biomarkers were related to pHu in LT than in RA muscle. Some consistencies were found, by the common correlation of pHu with MyHC-IIa and MyHC-IIx. The pHu of LT muscle was also correlated with other cytoskeletal entities and proteins belonging to metabolism and cellular stress...

INTRODUCTION: The umbilicus is an important component of body esthetics, and its absence or dysmorphia may give rise to psychological discomfort, making it a common concern in surgical planning. Many techniques of umbilicus reconstruction have been proposed, each with its own limitations in terms of esthetics, risk of stenosis or final positioning. Reconstruction techniques may involve skin grafting, cartilage, purse-string suture and flaps. One of the most promising approaches is scarless neo-umbilicoplasty...

Background: The retro-rectus placement of a prosthesis for reinforcement of a hernia repair is a powerful surgical maneuver and results in reduced hernia recurrence rates in the absence of ventral hernia. Fascial reinforcement theoretically should improve columnar support to the spine and enhance athletic activity. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the long-term efficacy of the restoration of the cylindrical lumbar abdominal myofascial complex as an adjunct to cosmetic abdominoplasty...

Rectus sheath hematomas (RSHs) are uncommon. They are usually unilateral and rarely bilateral. In this paper, we report the first case of spontaneous bilateral RSHs in a uremic patient after the administration of the first dose of low-molecular weight heparin during hemodialysis. The most interesting aspect of this case is that the main symptom of RSH in our patient was urinary bladder irritation. We highlight the importance of the prompt diagnosis and management of this medical emergency.

Microgravity and hypoactivity are associated with skeletal muscle deconditioning. The decrease of muscle mass is an exponential decay with major changes in the first days. The purpose of the study was to dissect out the effects of a short-term 3-day dry immersion (DI) on human quadriceps muscle function and structure. The DI model, by suppressing all support zones, accurately reproduces the effects of microgravity. Twelve healthy volunteers (32 ± 5 yrs) completed 3 days of DI. Muscle function was investigated through maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) tests and muscle viscoelasticity...
