BACKGROUND: Primary tracheal tumors are very rare and the literature on this subject is limited. The most common histological type of primary tracheal tumors is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), followed by adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Limited knowledge exists regarding the behavior and outcomes of different histological types of tracheal cancers. The present study aimed to address this gap by assessing the significance of the histological type of primary tracheal tumors based on our own data and to review the literature...

Objective Aberrant expression of ATP binding cassette subfamily B member 1 (ABCB1) plays a key role in several cancers. However, influence of G protein coupled receptor family C group 5 type A (GPRC5A)-regulated ABCB1 expression on lung adenocarcinomaremains unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of GPRC5A regulated ABCB1 expression on the proliferation of lung adenocarcinoma.MethodsABCB1 expressions in lung adenocarcinoma cell lines, human lung adenocarcinoma tissues, and tracheal epithelial cells and lung tissues of GPRC5A knockout mice and wild-type mice were analyzed with RT-PCR, Western blot, or immunohistochemical analysis...

INTRODUCTION: Primary tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma (TACC) is a rare low-grade lung cancer of bronchial gland origin. Surgery is the first choice of treatment; however, in cases of recurrence or inoperability, a combination of radiation and chemotherapy is administered as a multimodality treatment. Interventional bronchoscopy is also used as a multidisciplinary treatment; however, its impact on long-term prognosis has not been thoroughly investigated. CASE PRESENTATION: Eight patients diagnosed with TACC and treated at Shinshu University Hospital between December 2000 and August 2023 were analyzed retrospectively...

BACKGROUND: In industries worldwide, crystalline silica is pervasive and poses risks of pneumoconiosis and respiratory malignancies, with the latter being a knowledge gap in disease burden research that this study aims to address. By integrating both diseases, we also seek to provide an in-depth depiction of the silica-attributed disease burden. METHODS: Data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 were extracted to analyze the disease burden due to silica exposure...

The current approach to life cycle carcinogenic impact assessment (LCCA) is hindered by its static and linear characteristics. This situation prevents the accurate prediction of the incidence, associated damage, and potential economic burden of cancer. This study explores a highly comprehensive pathway for LCCA assessment. It uses the impacts of Tracheal, bronchus, and lung (TBL) predicted by the LCCA of China's coal power industry through a screened statistical regression model as the research target. The latest global burden of disease estimates is utilized to quantify the health damage from TBL incidence, whereas an approach combining the actual cost of health and human capital is applied to further assess the economic burden of TBL...

Tracheal small cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare malignancy, for which the optimal treatment strategy has yet to be determined. Currently, treatment largely aligns with the therapeutic guidelines established for small cell lung cancer, although numerous unresolved issues remain. This paper details a case study of a patient with Stage IIIB primary tracheal SCC, who was treated with an immune-combined etoposide-platinum(EP) regimen. This treatment offers valuable insights into innovative approaches for managing such malignancies...

A right aortic arch is an anomaly of prenatal development characterized by location of aortic arch to the right from tracheal-esophageal complex. This variant of anatomy is usually asymptomatic and diagnosed accidentally. We performed open upper lobectomy for cancer of the upper lobe of the right lung in a patient with aortic arch dextraposition. Classical right-sided upper lobectomy in patients with right aortic arch is associated with certain difficulties. The most difficult objective is total excision of lymph nodes because trachea is hidden under aortic arch...

Malignant lesions of tracheal bifurcation usually lead to respiratory failure and risk of mortality. Airway stenting is the only minimally invasive method for these patients. The authors present a patient with T4N3M0 left-sided lung cancer (inoperable stage IIIc) complicated by respiratory failure due to tracheal bifurcation obstruction. Bilateral stenting by self-expanding stents with perforated coatings was effective for airway recanalization and provided subsequent chemotherapy.

Carinal resections are frequently performed for carinal tumors. Resection of the carina due to distal tracheal tumors may be required, and the extension of main bronchial tumors to the carina may lead to carinal resection. This is one of the rarely performed operations in thoracic surgery, which is technically challenging and has a high complication rate. In the early series, perioperative mortality rate was reported as 29% and the five-year survival rate as 15%. Due to its technical difficulties and high complication rates, it is performed only in certain centers...

Pulmonary sleeve resection is a complex lung resection and reconstruction surgery mostly performed in patients with centrally located locally invasive lung cancers which often penetrate into central airways and vasculature. This approach was initially used for patients unable to tolerate pneumonectomies, while it is currently also being preferred in patients whose tumors are anatomically suited. Today, thoracic sleeve resections include a wide range of procedures ranging from bronchial and tracheal sleeve resections to carinal sleeve pneumonectomies...

OBJECTIVE: Laryngeal cancer is a common tumor in the head and neck, and surgery is one of the main treatment methods for laryngeal cancer. Laryngeal cancer surgery destroys the laryngeal cartilage scaffold, leading to structural changes in the laryngeal cavity and affecting respiratory compliance during sleep. However, less attention has been paid to the impact of changes in laryngeal structure on sleep breathing conditions. This article conducts a prospective study on the effects of preserving laryngeal function in cancer glottic surgery on sleep and respiratory status in patients, in order to understand the preoperative and postoperative OSAHS(obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome) of glottic cancer patients , as well as the impact of surgery on OSAHS of patients...
