Pulmonary inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are rarely reported in adult males. Given the low incidence of IMT and the lack of imaging references and pathological guidance, the misdiagnosis rate of IMT is high. In this article, we describe two cases of IMTs in the lungs. Both patients were adult males with lesions in the right lobe, a history of pulmonary tuberculosis, and a long period of refractory intermittent pulmonary inflammation. Our two male patients both experienced intermittent cough symptoms, but pulmonary IMTs were not suspected for a long time...

An inflammatory pseudotumor is considered a benign form of lesion marked by a proliferation of myofibroblasts with different degrees of inflammatory infiltrates. Pulmonary inflammatory pseudotumors (PIPs) are extremely rare in middle-aged adults. Normally, a PIP has a single lesion, and can be controlled constantly by surgery and drugs. In this paper, we report a case study of a 51-year-old male patient who presented with multiple inflammatory pseudotumors in lungs, thoracic spine, ribs, left humerusl, derived from PIPs throughout his body, which indicated a long disease term and significant recrudescence...

Inflammatory pseudotumor (IP) is a nonneoplastic, reactive inflammatory process, of unknown etiology, characterized by a proliferation of connective tissue with an inflammatory infiltrate, most commonly involving the lungs and orbits. Primary intracranial IP is an extremely rare entity often arising from the meningeal structures of the skull base. We reported an extremely rare case of a primary intracranial IP located in the cerebellopontine angle, mimicking a jugular foramen meningioma. We further illustrated our microsurgical technique through a surgical video and performed a review of the pertinent scientific literature...

Mediastinal masses span a wide histopathological spectrum. Inflammatory pseudotumors are rare and most commonly described in the lungs but these are reported in almost all the organs in the body. Mediastinal involvement is rare and difficult to diagnose. Clinical manifestations and laboratory investigations and radiology are non-specific. Histomorphology and Immunohistochemistry provide a valuable aid. Complete resection usually provides definitive diagnosis and is treatment of choice.

A 68-year-old gentleman was referred for 18 F-FDG PET/CT for a pulmonary mass in the left upper lobe which demonstrated intensely FDG-avid confluent pulmonary consolidation in the left upper lobe (SUVmax 15.1). Histopathologic biopsy of the left upper lobe lung mass was consistent with inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT). The patient was started on steroid treatment in conjunction with antibiotics. Follow-up FDG PET/CT 3 weeks after commence of treatment showed remarkable response of the IMTs to therapy with much less avid FDG uptake (SUVmax 5...

We aimed to systematically evaluate the imaging features of peripheral lung cancer and inflammatory pseudotumor. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang database (Wanfang), and Chinese Biomedical Network (CBM) were searched to collect relevant studies on CT image comparison of peripheral lung cancer and inflammatory pseudotumor. The search time was from database establishment to July 15, 2021. The search language was limited to Chinese and English. Data from the literature were screened and extracted, and meta-analysis was performed using Stata 16...

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare, mesenchymal tumor that has an increased incidence in childhood. Tumors are usually isolated to the chest, abdomen, and retroperitoneum, but metastatic presentations can be seen. Presenting symptoms are nonspecific and include fever, weight loss, pain, shortness of breath, and cough. Approximately 85% of IMTs harbor actionable kinase fusions. The diagnosis can be delayed because of overlapping features with inflammatory disorders, such as elevated inflammatory markers, increased immunoglobin G levels, fever, weight loss, and morphologic similarity with nonmalignant conditions...

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm with intermediate malignant potential. Although most often seen in the lungs, it can occur at multiple anatomical locations, including the gastrointestinal tract. An esophageal lesion is extremely rare, however. IMTs present most commonly in children and young adults. The main therapeutic approach is surgical resection. CASE REPORT: We report on the follow-up of a case in a 13-year-old boy with IMT in the esophagus...

Preoperative computed tomography scan was performed in all patients. Clinical and pathological characteristics were collected and analyzed.Thirty-one patients (16 female and 15 male) were recruited, with a median age of 57 years (range, 11-72 years). Eight (25.8%) patients were asymptomatic, and the others had symptoms characterized by cough with sputum, chest and back pain, dry cough, fever and blood in sputum, or hemoptysis...

BACKGROUND: Ligation clips are used for vessel or tissue ligation in surgery. Although previous reports have described the migration of metallic clips after hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, very few reports have described the migration of non-absorbable polymer clips (NAPCs: Hem-o-Lok). This study investigated treatment strategy for suspicious lung cancer with postoperatively proven benign etiology. In this retrospective study, we collected patients who underwent pulmonary resection for radiologically suspected lung cancer from 2010 to 2019 at Department of Thoracic Surgery, Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FUSCC). Radiological features, preoperative follow-up time, preoperative pathology and postoperative pathology of these patients were documented. We classified resected benign lesions based on paraffin section and compared the therapy management performed on indeterminate lung nodules of 2 time periods (2010-2014 vs 2015-2019)...

Several disorders related to growth and development affect children during their early stages of life. One rare disorder that affects about 15% of children is constitutional growth delay (CGD). Its results in the affected individuals appear unusually short and young for their age. The individuals are otherwise normal and appear as their normal counterparts as age increases. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare soft-tissue tumor that commonly affects the lungs, liver, and gastrointestinal tract...

We report a rare case of inflammatory pseudotumor located in the ventral junction of the medulla oblangta and cervical cistern, which has not been reported before as far as we know. Primary pulmonary inflammatory pseudotumor-like follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (IPT-like FDCS) is extremely rare. Here, we report a case of a 64-year-old female with primary pulmonary IPT-like FDCS. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor usually seen within the first and second decade. They are extremely rare in adults, constituting less than 1% of adult lung tumors. It's usually benign, but it had a tendency for local recurrence. We report a case of asymptomatic inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of lung in a 46-year-old non-smoker woman.

A 75-year-old woman underwent thoracoscopic right upper lobectomy for lung cancer. A histopathological examination showed adenocarcinoma, pT1aN0M0 stage IA1. At six months after surgery, chest computed tomography (CT) revealed pericardial nodules that had not been detected before pulmonary resection. Postoperative CT performed two months later revealed that the nodules were growing and F18 fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography showed a maximum standardized uptake of 9.87. Blood tests revealed no elevated tumor markers, with the exception of a mildly elevated interleukin-2...
