The purpose of this article is to describe reconstruction of the maxillary alveolar ridge by use of a microvascular free flap combined with an immediate tissue-engineered bone graft. This novel surgical technique involved the use of a radial forearm free flap and immediate allogeneic avascular bone graft augmented with bone morphogenetic protein and bone marrow aspirate concentrate. A poly-d,l-lactic acid mesh was used a containment unit for the bone graft. The patient was successfully treated with a viable radial forearm free flap for soft tissue and regeneration of bone with adequate height and width, which allowed the placement of 3 dental implants with excellent arch coordination...

: Osseointegration of dental implants occurs on a hierarchy of length scales down to the atomic level. A deeper understanding of the complex processes that take place at the surface of an implant on the smallest scale is of interest for the development of improved biomaterials. To date, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has been utilized for examination of the bone-implant interface, providing details on the nanometer level. In this study we show that TEM imaging can be complemented with atom probe tomography (APT) to reveal the chemical composition of a Ti-based dental implant in a human jaw on the atomic level of resolution...

PURPOSE: Reconstruction of hard tissue continuity defects caused by ablative tumor surgery has been traditionally reconstructed with autogenous bone grafts or microvascular free flaps. Although results have been predictable from these 2 methods of reconstruction, the morbidity associated with bone harvest is quite serious for the patient. Predictable results have been obtained with using a combination of 100% cadaver bone, bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), and recombinant human bone morphogenic protein in immediate reconstruction for benign tumor extirpations through the extraoral approach...

INTRODUCTION: Ever since its introduction in 1977, a minimum of few months of period is required for osseointegration to take place after dental implant surgery. With the passage of time and advancements in the fields of dental implant, this healing period is getting smaller and smaller. Immediate loading of dental implants is becoming a very popular procedure in the recent time. Hence, we retrospectively analyzed the various risk factors for the failure of delayed and immediate loaded dental implants...

Gunshot injuries to the face can have serious aesthetic, functional, and psychological consequences. The incapacitating nature of maxillofacial defects makes reconstruction of the maxilla and mandible challenging, owing to multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation phase. Outcome of prosthodontic treatment is one of the important parameters by which a patient measures the success of rehabilitation. A 5-year follow-up of comprehensive surgical and prosthodontic reconstruction of a gunshot injury using dental implants is described...
