INTRODUCTION: The optimal lower-limb alignment after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the optimal lower-limb alignment for functional improvement in the early post-UKA period. We hypothesized that a small change (Δ) in the arithmetic hip-knee-ankle (aHKA) angle during surgery would result in better postoperative knee function. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single-centered, retrospective study analyzed 91 patients (91 knees) who underwent UKA from April 2021 and December 2022...

BACKGROUND: The past decade has seen an exponential growth of minimally invasive surgical procedures. Procedures such as hip arthroscopy have rapidly grown and become the standard of care for patients with Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS). Although, the results of such procedures are encouraging, a large proportion of patients do not achieve optimal outcomes due to chronicity and deconditioning as a result of delay in diagnosis and increased waiting times amongst other factors...

BACKGROUND: Femoral neck is one of the high-risk areas for benign tumors and tumor-like lesions. Small range of lesions may also lead to pathological fracture, femoral head necrosis and other serious problems. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Retrospective study of 20 patients with femoral neck and femoral head lesions from February 2019 to March 2023 in our hospital...

In the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse, the insertion of polypropylene mesh is often necessary but can lead to subsequent complications, such as a high incidence of pain and infections, necessitating mesh removal. However, the removal of polypropylene mesh can be challenging due to the risks of postoperative complications and technical difficulties. The key to effective healing often lies in the complete removal of the mesh, but this process is associated with complications, including severe pain and potential foreign body reactions...

Robotic assisted (RA) total hip arthroplasty (THA) offers improved acetabular component placement and radiographic outcomes, but inconsistent assessment methods of its learning curves render the evaluation of adopting novel platforms challenging. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to assess the learning curve associated with RA-THA, both tracking a surgeon's performance across initial cases and comparing their performance to manual THA (M-THA). BACKGROUND: Shorter, metaphyseal-filling collared stems have become popular with the direct anterior approach (DAA), based on their ease of broaching and insertion through less invasive surgical exposures. To aid with the DAA, robotic-assisted technology provides three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance to accurately assess stem version. With other femoral stems, this has been shown to provide more accurate implant planning and improved patient outcomes...

The aim of this study was to compare the short term clinical and radiological outcomes of imageless robotic and conventional total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and to estimate the accuracy of the two techniques by analysing the outliers after TKA. We have evaluated 200 consecutive knees (158 patients), 100 knees undergoing robotic TKA, and 100 knees treated with conventional TKA. Demographic parameters like age, gender, body mass index, diagnosis and range of motion were obtained. Knee society score (KSS) and Knee society functional score (KSS-F) were used for clinical evaluation...

Acetabular quadrilateral plate injury has become a hot spot and focus in the field of orthopaedic trauma and pelvic floor function in recent years. Although there are five fracture types, they are all based on fracture morphology, without considering the pulling force of ligaments, joint capsular and muscles. A perfect classification needs to describe the displacement of bone mass in three-dimensional space to better guide reduction and fixation. The seven incision and exposure methods are still the traditional open-eye surgery, and how to protect the criss-crossing vascular neural network and pelvic organs is still the focus...

He was taken to surgery for L4-5 minimally-invasive (MIS) laminectomy for decompression and concomitant L1-2 MIS laminectomy for tumor resection. The L4-5 laminectomy was completed first followed by the separate L1-2 laminectomy. Upon extensive intradural exploration at L1-2, no neoplasm was found. Immediate postoperative imaging showed that the IDEM tumor had migrated caudally by nearly a complete spinal level, presumably as a result of changes in cerebrospinal fluid pressure and resultant shift in intradural contents after the L4-5 laminectomy...

Introduction Hip fractures in the elderly constitute a significant health concern, and their incidence is on the rise. It has been reported that intertrochanteric femoral fractures comprise a large portion of hip fractures, and they are especially prevalent among women. Over 75% of these types of fractures in the elderly occur as a result of simple falls. Surgical intervention must be performed for these fractures to expedite the healing process in patients. The application of a proximal femoral nail (PFN) is conducted using a minimally invasive technique after the fracture has been reduced using closed techniques...
