Objective: The evaluation of racial disparities in access to and use of infertility services in the U.S. has been documented. The aims of this study were to: 1) investigate racial differences in length of time women report attempting to become pregnant until seeking medical help; and 2) determine the predictors of seeking medical help to achieve pregnancy. Materials and methods: The National Survey of Family Growth 2011-2015 was used to analyze the duration women attempted to get pregnant among those who sought medical help...

Parkinson disease is one of the most common neurological movement disorders affecting geriatric population. Biosynthesized gold nanoparticles are the ideal alternatives spotlighted by many researchers to treat various diseases. In the present study we synthesized gold nanoparticles using the root extract of Paeonia mountan, woody trees which are used in traditional Chinese medicine to be prescribed for diverse diseases. The synthesis of gold nanoparticles was confirmed with UV-Vis spectroscopic analysis and characterized using FTIR, HR-TEM, EDAX and XRD analysis...

Geiji-Bokryung-Hwan (GBH) was studied on antiplatelet activity in human platelet suspensions. GBH consists of the 5 herbs Cinnamomi Ramulus, Poria Cocos, Mountan Cortex Radicis, Paeoniae Radix, and Persicae Semen, which have been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years for atherosclerosis. The mechanism involved in the antiplatelet activity of GBH in human platelet suspensions was investigated. GBH inhibited platelet aggregation and Ca2+ mobilization in a concentration-dependent manner without increasing intracellular cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP...

An epidemiologic survey of Pediculus capitis infestation among Akka aboriginal and Han children of Chinese refugees living in mountainous areas at elevations of 1,100 to 1,400 m in Chiang-Rai Province of northern Thailand was conducted during January 2003. Of the 303 children examined, 43 (14.2%) had P. capitis infestation. The overall infestation rate for P. capitis in Akka children (29.3%, 12/41) was significantly higher than that in Han children (11.8%, 31/262; chi2 = 8.161, p = 0.002). The prevalence in Akka (52...

A systematic observation and research was conducted on the overwintering and size dynamic characters of Apis cerana cerana at south and west mountaneous area of Anhui Province in 1998-2003. The results showed that the center temperature of overwintering bee flock changed synchronously with the outside temperature. With the decrease of overwintering bee colony, its center temperature and relative humidity ranged widely, and stably descended. Overwintering flocks fed by old method had a high stability than that fed new one...

The mechanism involved in the antiplatelet activity of GBH in human platelet suspensions was investigated. GBH did not significantly affect the thromboxane synthetase activity of aspirin-treated platelet microsomes and GBH (15 and 30 microg/ml) significantly inhibited [3H]arachidonic acid released in collagen-activated platelets but not in unactivated-platelets...

The authors analysed the data obtained in examination of 106 patients with carcinoma of the thyroid gland residing in the Mountaineous-Altai region endemic by goiter. A conclusion was drawn that in the great majority of the aforesaid patients an important etiological factor in the development of malignant tumour was nodular and diffuse-nodular goiter. In patients with carcinoma of the thyroid gland residing the mentioned region the blood iodine, cobalt, and copper content was much greater than in healthy persons...

A clinical study was conducted in 236 patients with decompensated mitral valve disease--permanent residents of the areas located at various altitudes in the Pamirs and Tien Shan (760 to 4,200 m above the sea level). The main parameters of haemodynamics were studied by means of the dye dilution method in 158 of them, as well as the indices of cardiodynamics by way of polycardiography. The data obtained in 120 normal individuals living in foothills (760 m) served as control. It was demonstrated that with the same stages of cardiac insufficiency, the most striking changes in the haemo- and cardiodynamics were noted among the residents of the high altitude areas...
