Toxic hepatitis secondary to amoxycillin-clavulanic acid is an infrequent clinical picture. Most of the cases are reported to have a benign course. We report two cases of severe hepatic failure following amoxycillin-clavulanic acid use. One of the cases had cholestatic features primarily, and the other had hepatocellular injury prominently. The first case had also findings of trombotic trombositic purpura and had a fatal course.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to show the possibilities of MRI in diagnostic of the spleen affections. MATERIAL AND METHODS: During a two years period, MRI of the splen alone was performed in 13 patients, while MRI of the liver was performed in 213 patients. With the liver, we examined the spleen as well. Using 1.0T Unit (Siemens Magnetom Impact) we performed next sequences: T1W SE, T2W TSE FS, PD T2W, with and without breath hold. Rutinly we used body coil...

6275 autopsies performed at the Institute of Pathology of the University of Zurich in the period 1973--1976 included 47 microscopically verified cases of thrombotic endocarditis. Thirty of these patients harboured a neoplasm, most often of the gastro-intestinal tract. Twelve died from arterial emboli, particularly to the central nervous system, although valvular disease of the heart was not manifest clinically. The association of thrombotic endocarditis and histologic evidence of disseminated intravascular coagulation was seen in a different group of 30 cases...

A case of uremic hemolytic syndrome observed in a 20 months old child has been investigated from the clinical and pathological point of view. All specific clinical manifestations of the syndrome were present as well as the pathognomic pathological finding of a renal trombotic microangiopathy. In addition a generalized lymphoadenopathy likely related to a previous vaccination, was also found. The possible role of such an immune reaction in the pathogenesis of the syndrome in the present case is discussed.

In the studies outlined in this report, normal dogs receiving megadoses of vitamin E displayed no abnormalities in their coagulation mechanisms. However, when made mildly vitamin-K-deficient by using warfarin, the introduction of vitamin E produced a profound coagulopathy. This coagulopathy was characterized by a further reduction in the vitamin-K-dependent coagulation factors and did not influence the levels of the non-vitamin K coagulation factors. Only one human case has been described to date, and this particular patients was vitamin-K-deficient at the time he was receiving vitamin E...
