A 5-month-old boy presented with right scrotal swelling. Color Doppler ultrasonography showed an encapsulated hypoechoic lesion with surrounding hyperemia in the right tail of the epididymis. We performed surgical exploration of the scrotum because it was not considered to be a typical epididymitis. During the operation, we aspirated pus from his right epididymis through a needle by referring to the color Doppler findings. This is the first case of epididymal abscess in an infant to be successfully diagnosed and treated with needle aspiration...

We report a case of amniotic band syndrome complicated by constriction bands and marked distal swelling of both lower extremities. Color Doppler interrogation of the right lower extremity revealed complete lack of blood flow below the level of the constriction. Upon fetoscopic survey, the right lower extremity beyond the constriction band appeared dusky red and discolored with desquamation, consistent with a necrotic appearance. The constriction bands were cut in utero using endoshears, thereby allowing restoration of blood flow on postoperative day 1...

Recently, several studies have investigated the effectiveness of the ultrasound-guided lumbosacral transforaminal epidural injection. However, the ultrasound-guided S1 transforaminal epidural injection using an out-of-plane approach, which was previously reported, may cause an intestinal injury or intravascular injection because the needle tip tends to be invisible in the out-of-plane approach. In this study, therefore, we report a new method of ultrasound-guided S1 transforaminal epidural injection using the in-plane approach and color Doppler...

Left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony (LVdys) is a necessary condition for successful cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). Despite left bundle branch block (LBBB) representing a reliable surrogate of LVdys, not all LBBB patients will respond to CRT. Our aim was to investigate the relation between QRS duration and LVdys in patients with LBBB who underwent CRT. We retrospectively studied 165 patients with LBBB who underwent CRT implantation according to the current guidelines. A 6-month reduction of LV end-systolic volume ≥15% identified responders to CRT...

The high flow priapism (HFP) is a very rare pathology. It must be distinguished from the low flow which is a real urologic emergency. The diagnosis of HFP (most often post-trauma) remains clinical, but penile color Doppler ultrasound can confirm, identify and track the evolution of the lesion. Conservative treatment is effective and remains the first line treatment. However the different therapeutic modalities (selective embolisation, surgery) should be explained to the patient and be considered case by case...

Primary testicular lymphoma (PLT) represents 5% of testis tumors, the incidence increases in patients older than 60 years of age. Bilateral hydrocele is an unusual clinical presentation. Relapse in the central nervous system and in the contralateral testis is often observed. The US shows hypoechoic nodular lesions with a complete structural involvement of didymus and hypervascularization at Color Doppler. Orchiectomy should be performed in all cases as it is indispensable for the histopathological diagnosis and to characterize the immunophenotypic features...

Minimally invasive transverse aortic constriction (MTAC) is a more desirable method for the constriction of the transverse aorta in mice than standard open-chest transverse aortic constriction (TAC). Although transverse aortic constriction is a highly functional method for the induction of high pressure in the left ventricle, it is a more difficult and lengthy procedure due to its use of artificial ventilation with tracheal intubation. TAC is oftentimes also less survivable, as the newer method, MTAC, neither requires the cutting of the ribs and intercostal muscles nor tracheal intubation with a ventilation setup...
