The goal of this pilot study was to develop an age-estimation formula and assess its effectiveness after evaluating individual intraoral findings. A total of 198 Japanese adults were included, and intraoral findings were collected from the corpses. To analyze the condition of each tooth, 20 items were established for intraoral findings, and seven tooth states were established. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the impact of age on each intraoral finding. Sequentially, linear regression was applied to verify the correlation between age and type of tooth, and multiple regression was used to correlate age-dependent factors...

The aim of this retrospective clinical study was to evaluate and compare oral hygiene levels in patients subjected to fixed metal-ceramic or stratified zirconia prostheses, either on teeth or on dental implants. Twenty patients, including 10 with metal-ceramic prostheses and 10 with stratified zirconia, were engaged for the study. Considering the prosthesis positioning phase as zero time, all patients were examined twice a year for a follow-up period of 3 years. During each session, to assess oral cavity state of health, both the Plaque Index (IP) and the Bleeding Index (BOP) were recorded...

UNLABELLED: The present observational prospective study analyzes the eating habits in association with the medico-oral health of catering workers, since they seem the category at higher risk of developing dental problems. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate oral and medical health through a questionnaire in a total sample of 603 participants. Additionally, this article aims to provide information regarding the medico-oral implications of an unbalanced diet linked to this particular profession...

We report a case of fixed prosthetic treatment for poor esthetics due to the position of the maxillary left lateral incisor in a 43-year-old woman. Initial examination revealed no carious lesions, but the tooth axis of the maxillary right canine showed mesial inclination of approximately 15°. Orthodontic treatment was first proposed but was declined by the patient as they did not wish to undergo a prolonged period of therapy. Therefore, recovery by extraction of the maxillary right lateral incisor and prosthetic treatment was proposed as an alternative...

The fluorescence and physical properties of thulium and erbium co-doped dental zirconia were investigated. The high-translucency yttria-stabilized dental zirconia specimens co-doped with Tm2 O3 powder 0.8 wt% and Er2 O3 powder at proportions from 0.1 to 0.8 wt% were used. The specimens co-doped with Tm2 O3 powder 0.8 wt% and Er2 O3 from 0.3 to 0.5 wt% exhibited the fluorescence similar to that of natural tooth. All the specimens had a tetragonal peak and no major change in the Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and bending strength on addition of Tm2 O3 and Er2 O3 ...

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the dimensional changes of the keratinized tissue width (KTW) in molar regions after augmentation by free gingival grafts (FGG) before implant placement. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In seventeen patients, twenty implant sites in molar regions with KTW ≤3 mm at the buccal aspect received FGG 2 months before implant placement. KTW at the buccal aspect was measured before FGG (T0), immediately before implant placement (T1), at the time of impression taking for final prosthesis fabrication (T2), and at the end of the follow-up period after loading (T3, 12-48 months)...

Peri-implantitis is the most common and intractable complication of dental implant-supported prothesis affecting its long-term success, and is one of the main reasons for implant failure. Due to the limitation of the research methods, the pathogenesis and pathological processes of peri-implantitis remain unclear. Animal models are indispensable tools to study the pathogenesis of diseases. With the advances of the dental implants, the peri-implantitis mouse model has been used in experimental research. This paper summarized recent studies from the following five aspects: the advantages of the mouse model, the influence of mouse strain, the design of micro-implant, the way of implant insertion, as well as the induction of peri-implantitis, aiming to provide references and help for researchers...

Autotransplantation provides the possibility of a natural tooth rather than a prothesis or an osseointegrated implant to replace a missing tooth. The indications for autotransplantation are wide, but careful patient selection coupled with an appropriate technique is a prerequisite for a good functional and esthetic outcome. This review article will identify and discuss the factors that influence case selection, the ideal timing for autotransplantation and the critical determinants for achieving a successful outcome...

Parafunctional behaviors, especially bruxism, are not uncommon among patient visiting dentists' clinics daily and they constitute a major dental issue for almost all dentists. Many researchers have focused on the definition, pathophysiology, and treatment of these behaviors. These parafunctional behaviors have a considerable negative impact on teeth and dental prothesis. In this review, we focused on the impact of parafunctional behaviors on dental bridges. We summarized the definitions, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and consequences of parafunctional behaviors...

BACKGROUND: Dental implants have been used in edentulous jaws to improve the retention and stability of complete dentures. Attachment to the implants improves stability and function of the prostheses and increases patient satisfaction. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate quality of life and satisfaction between patients with implant overdentures and complete dentures for more than 20 years. METHODS: Forty patients with overdentures and 40 patients with conventional complete dentures were included in this study...

INTRODUCTION: Foreign body in respiration tract is a life-threatening emergency and requires urgent treatment. The diagnosis and treatment requires awareness and suspicion of signs and symptoms of foreign body aspiration. CASE: A unique case of total dental prothesis aspiration of a 44-year-old aphasic patient is presented. The prothesis is completely removed from the larynx. DISCUSSION: Foreign-body aspiration is frequently suspected in children, it is rarely thought about in adults with subacute or chronic respiratory symptoms unless an evident history of an aspiration event is obtained...

OBJECTIVE: Different clinical problems may require a surgical approach to the dental arch, such as dentofacial orthopedics, implant-supported dental prothesis, maxillary orthodontics protraction, removable appliances, and posttraumatic dental reconstruction. The aim of this study is to analyze the dental arch size and type for supporting individual dental protheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, the reference measurements on the length of the bony palate, maxillary intercanine width, maxillary intermolar width, and the ratio of the maxillary to the palatinal surface were studied in 120 bony palates using a computer software program...

METHODS: The sample consisted of 161 volunteers, of both genders, aged between 26 and 84 years (63 ± 15 years). RESULTS: The results demonstrated that the thermal gradient areas suggested for the study were present in at least 95% of the thermograms evaluated and that there is significant difference in temperature between the genders, racial group and variables "odontalgia", "dental prothesis" and "history of migraine" (p < 0...

Functioning of a complete denture depends to a great extent on the impression technique. Several impression techniques have been described in the literature since the turn of this century when Greene [Clinical courses in dental prothesis, 1916] brothers introduced the first scientific system of recording dental impression. Advocates of each technique have their own claim of superiority over the other. The introduction of elastomeric impression materials [Skinner and Cooper, J Am Dent Assoc 51:523-536, 1955] has made possible new techniques of recording impression for complete denture construction...
