Immune-related adverse events (irAE) has been clarified according the usage of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICI). We primarily found indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1(IDO-1) as a histologic biomarker for the cholangiopathy of primary biliary cholangitis(PBC). In this study, we evaluated the utility of IDO-1 in identifying ICI-induced immune-mediated hepatotoxicity(IMH). Immunostaining for IDO-1 using liver sections of PBC, ICI-induced IMH and controls, revealed that IDO-1 expression in bile ducts is mostly restricted in PBC and ICI-induced IMH...

Following the CodeBreak 100 study, since 2021 sotorasib has been available in France, with authorization for early access in treatment of non-small cell lung cancer with a KRAS G12C mutation. Our retrospective observational study was designed to determine the efficacy and safety of sotorasib under real-life conditions in patients treated at the Tours CHRU. Our study of 15 patients showed sotorasib to be effective in 47% of cases, with overall survival of 4 months and median progression-free survival of 5.5 months for responders...

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex multiorgan autoimmune disease with varied clinical and laboratory manifestations. Although common in lupus disease, liver test disturbance is rarely seen as a primary manifestation at diagnosis. In this case report, we describe acute hepatitis as the initial presentation of SLE in a young woman.

BACKGROUND: Hepatits C virus (HCV) rates have lowered due to direct-acting antiviral treatment. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)/nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is rising with no available therapy. We employed text-mining to analyze trends in HCV and NAFLD research from the past two decades. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We queried PubMed for all HCV and NASH/NAFLD entries published between 2000 and 2020. We compared the total number of publications on both etiologies...

This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the results of rapid tests for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Syphilis, and Chronic Hepatitis in the prison population in a prison complex in Salvador (BA), Brazil. This cross-sectional study consisted of a sample of men incarcerated from August 2018 to August 2020 submitted to rapid tests. Descriptive statistics and prevalence ratios with respective 95% confidence intervals were employed to analyze data. A total of 6,160 men were studied. Most were black and brown (93...

We aimed to report the experience in managing action research on hepatitis C investigation in the prison community in the Triângulo Mineiro region, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The proposal was developed from March 2019 to March 2020, reaching 240 people to contain the spread of the disease through a survey, testing, and monitoring of positive cases. We adopted intersectoral action with articulation between Universities, Medical Society, Teaching Hospital, and State Secretariat for Justice and Public Security. Strategies for the management of action research are described: study settings and stakeholders, registration and formalization of the activity, application of tests, and management of reagent inmates...

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have become a mainstay of cancer treatment. Their immune-boosting quality has one major drawback, their proclivity to induce a broad array of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) affecting, among others, the liver and sharing some similarities with classic autoimmune liver diseases (AILD).We aimed to compare clinical, laboratory and histological features of patients with liver-related irAEs and AILD. METHODS: We systematically compared liver irAEs with AILD, namely autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and primary biliary cholangitis, regarding their clinical, laboratory, and histological features...

NAFLD or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the complications of obesity and diabetes, the prevalence of which is increasing. The causes of the pathology and its development towards its severe form, NASH or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, are multiple and still poorly understood. Many different pharmacological classes are being tested in clinical trials to treat NASH, but no pharmaceutical treatment is currently on the market. Moreover, the diagnosis of certainty is only possible by liver biopsy and histological analysis, an invasive procedure with high risk for the patient...

We have less amount of knowlegdge about the effect of non-viral cause chronic liver fibrosis on vaccination. In this study we investigated the effect of non-viral chronic liver fibrosis on Hepatitis B vaccine and the effect of tetanous toxoid co-adminsitration at the level of humoral and cellular immune responses in an experimental model. Viral hepatitis A is characterized by a wide range of clinical pictures ranging from a completely unapparent infection to a fulminant, potentially fatal hepatitis or the classical icteric form. Hepatitis A can develop in an unusual way and extrahepatic manifestations (neurological, renal, haematological, cholecystitis, acute pancreatitis, vasculitis, etc.) can occasionally complicate the course of the disease. Although hepatitis A infection was identified in the early 1970s, there are few or no studies assessing the actual frequency of these complications...

More than 250 million people worldwide are currently infected with hepatitis B, despite the effectiveness of vaccination and other preventive measures. In terms of treatment, new therapeutic approaches are rapidly developing, promising to achieve the elimination of infected cells and the complete cure of infection. The on-treatment monitoring of these innovative antiviral treatments will require the implementation of new virological tools. Therefore, new biomarkers are being evaluated besides the traditional virological and serological assays in order to obtain information on different steps of the viral replication cycle and to monitor response to therapy more accurately...

Researchers are constantly looking to find new techniques of virus detection that are sensitive, cost-effective, and accurate. Additionally, they can be used as a point-of-care (POC) tool due to the fact that the populace is growing at a quick tempo, and epidemics are materializing greater often than ever. Electrochemiluminescence-based (ECL) biosensors for the detection of viruses have become one of the most quickly developing sensors in this field. Thus, we here focus on recent trends and developments of these sensors with regard to virus detection...

OBJECTIVE: Sitagliptin and other dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP)-4 inhibitors/gliptins are antidiabetic drugs known to improve lipid profile, and confer anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects, which are independent of their hypoglycemic effects. However, in our previous short-term (35 days) studies, we showed that sitagliptin accentuates the hepato-inflammatory effects of high dietary cholesterol (Cho) in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Since most type 2 diabetics also present with lipid abnormalities and use DPP-4 inhibitors for glucose management, the present study was conducted to assess the impact of sitagliptin during long-term (98 days) feeding of a high Cho diet...

This integrative review examined factors associated with hepatitis C treatment adherence. The articles included were published in English, Spanish and Portuguese in the Lilacs, Medline, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus and CINAHL databases, between 2000 and 2019. Initially, 540 publications were found and, after applying the study inclusion criteria, 22 articles were selected. Percentage non-adherence to treatment ranged from 12% to 32%. The variables identified as facilitating adherence were: receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders identified during treatment; knowing about medications and disease; receiving less complex treatment with greater likelihood of cure; fewer adverse events; social support; doctor-patient communication; and/or being in relationships...

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is an ubiquitous DNA herpesvirus with >90% of adults >40 years of age showing a serological response. While in their youth, primary EBV infection may pass unnoticed, young adults have a high incidence of infectious mononucleosis (IM). This is characterized by a triad of pharyngitis, cervical lymphadenopathy, and fever because of a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disease. Common complications include but are not limited to hepatitis, splenomegaly, encephalitis, and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) with evidence that Caucasian males and smokers are more likely to suffer severe disease...
