INTRODUCTION: Botox is frequently used for sialorrhea in patients with compromised airways and those with etiologies causing difficulty with secretion management (i.e. strokes, neurologic disorders, etc.). There are no published studies regarding the use of botulinum toxin (BoNT) in the neonate population. We aim to discuss our experience and safety of BoNT use in the neonate population in regards to alleviating secretion management and airway protection. METHODS: Retrospective review of neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) ≤12 months of age who received BoNT injection to submandibular (SMG) and parotid (PG) glands for sialorrhea/dysphagia...

Primary mediastinal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(PMNHL) is a rare cancer. Exceptionally, it can be complicated by tracheœsophageal fistulas, directly connecting the esophagus and the trachea and secondary to esophageal tumor or chemotherapy (hence the interest of our case). We report the case of a 24-year old Moroccan female patient, treated for primary mediastinal large B cell NHL revealed by dyspnœa associated with dysphagia and alteration of general condition. The patient underwent chemotherapy but her health condition worsened after a second treatment due to the occurrence of recurrent pulmonary infections associated with cough during meals making swallowing impossible...

The purpose of this study was to compare the swallowing function and kinematics in stroke patients with and without tracheostomies. In this retrospective matched case-control study, we compared stroke patients with (TRACH group, n = 24) and without (NO-TRACH group, n = 24) tracheostomies. Patients were matched for age, sex, and stroke-type. Swallowing function was evaluated using the videofluoroscopic dysphagia scale (VDS) and functional oral intake scale (FOIS) obtained from videofluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS) images...
