The authors present the case history of a patient suffering from hyperthyroidism. The diagnostic procedures revealed the presence of propylthiouracyl induced vasculitis with renal involvement, that recovered completely after the withdrawal of propylthiouracyl and corticosteroid treatment. Thereafter, the patient was treated with thiamasol, that caused agranulocytosis with fever. After transient litium carbonate therapy a succesful thyreoidectomy was performed. Cumulative serious side effects of antithyroid drugs are rare...

The luminance mechanisms of the white organic light-emitting devices (WOLEDs) with a charge generation layer (CGL) consisting of a tungsten oxide layer and a 5,6,11,12-tetraphenyltetracene (rubrene) doped N,N',-bis-(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl1-1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (NPB) layer were investigated. Current densities and luminances of the WOLEDs increased with increasing a rubrene doping concentration because the formation of excitons in the rubrene-doped NPB layer increased due to the more exciton trapping in rubrene molecules and the delay of the electron injection due to the insertion of the litium qunolate layer...

A protective effect of lithium chloride (LC) in thermal ischemia of the kidney of different duration was studied in rats. LC efficacy was estimated by functional activity of ischemic kidney in early and late reperfusion period, by damage to mitochondria of tubular epithelial cells and production of active oxygen forms (AOF) and nitric oxide (NO). LC has a marked anti-ischemic effect. In thermal renal ischemia for 40 and 60 min LC provides functional safety of the ischemic organ. In longer ischemia, 50% of the animals died...

This review focuses on the modeling of status epilepticus in animal brain and modern data on the mechanisms of epileptical seizures initiation using the pilocarpine binding with the muscarinic cholinoreceptors (litium pilocarpine model). The character of epileptics seizures in developing brain and adult brain of rats were investigated. The lines of modulation and inhibition epileptics statues by sacricine and intranasal application of neuropeptide thyroliberin in ultra-low doses are demonstrated. The role of the short-term changes (signal regulated kinase signaling cascade, Kv 4...

OBJECTIVES: 1st To study and know better the therapeutical action of the olygoelements in the Ménière's diseases. 2nd To analyse if there are significative statistical associations of therapeutical response to the olygoelements in the Ménière's sickness. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We make a design of observational study of 68 patients with the diagnostic of Ménière's sickness, with classical therapeutic and 34 treated with and without litium olygoelements and manganese&cupper...

It has been found that some macrocyclic esters have no ionophoric properties, but can block valinomycin-induced potassium transport in mitochondrial membranes and lessen the potassium current induced by valinomycin in phosphatidylcholine bilayers. It has been also discovered that 36-member cyclic esters of succinic acid and propylene glycoles decrease fluorescence of puridine nucleotides in mitochondria and produce a modifying effect on bimolecular phosphatidylcholine membranes in the medium of litium, calcium and magnesium chlorides at unilateral injection...

A practical method for routine patient dose monitoring when single, multiple, or adjacent fields are irradiated with supervoltage x rays is described. The system uses litium fluoride TL-700 extruded rods in small gelatin capsules. The mode of calculation is described and the experimental data for 33- and 45-MeV energy betatron x rays are presented. An example is given to illustrate the use of this technique (experimental uncertainty, 3%).

The effect of litium on the peripheral turnover of T4 and T3 was investigated in 14 euthyroid subjects using lymphocytes as target cells. Lithium caused a dose-dependent rise in T4 turnover, which did not lead to increased T3 production, but no rise in T3 turnover. A further 3 patients with lithium induced hypothyroidism were studied. Patients with high T4 turnover had high TSH values and in these patients lithium induced a decrease in T4 turnover. This may lead to the conclusion that the demonstrated effect of lithium in the control group did not cause the low T4 in these patients...
