The cotton mealybug, Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley and papaya mealybug, Paracoccus marginatus Williams and Granara de Willink (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) are becoming major threats to the production of Gymnema sylvestre R. Br. (Asclepiadaceae) in India. Management mainly depends on chemical insecticides which cause a serious problem of pesticide residue and insecticide resistance. The use of biorational insecticides such as biopesticides, botanicals, insect growth regulators, and microbial insecticides is important components of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for successful management...

BACKGROUND: Burkitt's lymphoma, one of the most common subtypes of pediatric malignant lymphoma, is notorious for its swift onset, aggressive proliferation, pronounced invasiveness, and marked malignancy. The therapeutic landscape for Burkitt's lymphoma currently falls short of providing universally effective and tolerable solutions. Andrographolide, a primary active component of Andrographis paniculata, is renowned for its properties of heat-clearing, detoxification, inflammation reduction, and pain relief...

The quality standards for Andrographis paniculata, a widely used medicinal herb, exhibited significant variations across different pharmacopeias. In this study, we compared the HPLC content determination methods and total lactone content of A. paniculata samples from different regions, as specified in the Chinese (CP), United States (USP), European (EP), Thai (TP), and Indian pharmacopeias (IP), as well as the Hong Kong Chinese Materia Medica Standards (HK). We aimed to assess the differences and similarities among these pharmacopeias and harmonized international quality standards for A...

This study focuses on a one-pot solvothermal synthetic route for the preparation of uniformly decorated zinc oxide nanoparticles on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (rGO/ZnO-NC) by using Andrographis paniculata leaf aqueous extract as an eco-friendly reducing agent. After characterizing the samples by different physical and chemical techniques, the anticancer activity of the synthesized rGO/ZnO-NC was examined on two human cancerous cell lines (HCT116 and A549) and one normal cell line (hMSCs). The MTT assays revealed that rGO/ZnO-NC exhibited dose-dependent cytotoxicity at a maximum concentration range of 10 ppm and the viability of the cells was drastically decreased to 95-96%...

Chlorophyll-free fractions of Andrographis paniculata were investigated for glucose uptake and lipid reduction in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. At 25 µg/ml, the acid fraction concentration enhanced glucose uptake by 82%. Basic and neutral fractions at 100 µg/ml enhanced glucose uptake by 82% and 78%, respectively. The three fractions showed improved glucose uptake compared to the crude extract (25% uptake at 50 μg/ml). GC-MS analysis of the fractions revealed the presence of chemicals with antidiabetic activities...

Precise visualization of biological processes necessitates reliable coloring technologies, and fluorescence imaging has emerged as a powerful method for capturing dynamic cellular events. Low emission intensity and solubility of intrinsic fluorescence are still challenging, hindering their application in the biomedical field. The nanostructurization and functionalization of the insoluble phytochemicals, such as chlorophyll and curcumin, into carbon dots (CDs) were conducted to address these challenges. Due to their unique fluorescence characteristics and biocompatibility, CDs derived from medicinal plants hold promise as bioimaging agents...

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative and remains incurable. Aluminum is a potent neurotoxin associated with AD. The main pathological features of AD are extracellular amyloid-β protein deposition and intracellular hyperphosphorylated Tau protein. A body of evidence suggest that oxidative stress and autophagy are involved in the pathogenesis of AD. Andrographis paniculata (AP) is a native plant with anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative stress, and regulation of autophagy properties...

Traditional Iranian medicine is usually used for both prevention and relief of cold and flu symptoms in China, Iran, and many other Asian countries all over the world. There are 4 kinds of influenza viruses. Unlike type B, which may cause seasonal epidemics, type A viruses can cause pandemics, and influenza C may lead to mild human infection with little public health effects. A literature review was done by using multiple databases such as ISI Web of knowledge, PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The most notable antiviral medicinal plants for flu and cold are honeysuckle flowers, thyme leaf, green chiretta, andrographis, peppermint oil and leaf and calendula...

Cancer is one of the dreaded diseases of the twentieth century, emerging the major global causes of human morbidity. Cancer research in the last 15 years has provided unprecedented information on the role of epigenetics in cancer initiation and progression. Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are recognized as important epigenetic markers in cancer, whose overexpression leads to increased metastasis and angiogenesis. In the current study, thirty-four (34) compounds from Andrographis paniculata were screened for the identification of potential candidate drugs, targeting three Class I HDACs (Histone deacetylases), namely HDAC1 (PDB id 5ICN), HDAC3 (PDB id 4A69) and HDAC8 (PDB id 5FCW) through computer-assisted drug discovery study...
