Small brachycephalic dog breeds, such as the French bulldog, English bulldog and pug have become increasingly popular. These breeds are predisposed to a variety of vertebral and spinal malformations, including hemivertebra, caudal articular process dysplasia, transitional vertebra, cranial thoracic vertebral canal stenosis, spinal arachnoid diverticulum and meningeal fibrosis. Recent studies have provided new insights into the prevalence, anatomical characteristics, pathophysiology and treatment of these conditions...

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and clinical significance of HIF-1α and DcR3 in endometriosis by analysing clinical case data. Tissue samples were collected for tissue chip analysis and staining, and human endometrial stromal cells were isolated and cultured for cell experiments. Additionally, experiments were conducted on collected peritoneal fluid to explore the association and role of HIF-1α and DcR3 in endometriosis. STUDY DESIGN: Patients who visited the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Central Hospital in Fengxian District, Shanghai, from January 2018 to December 2021 were recruited for this controlled study...

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a persistent inflammatory condition that affects women of reproductive age and causes pelvic pain. Chronic pelvic pain is a chronic regional pain syndrome involving the pelvic area. OBJECTIVES: This survey aimed to characterize the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyles, quality of life, and perceptions of quality of care in women with endometriosis who reported chronic pelvic pain during the Covid pandemic. DESIGN: We conducted a cross-sectional survey among the Italian population from July to September 2021...

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Uterine torsion are extremely rare in pregnancy as few cases have been reported. Torsion of the pregnant uterus is defined as the rotation more than 45 degrees around the long axis of the uterus. It has been referred as, once-in-a-lifetime diagnosis by obstetricians and gynecologists. This paper reports a case of uterine torsion and velamentous cord insertion from our obstetrical practice, along with a review of reported cases. CASE PRESENTATION: The 30-year-old patient (G2P1) at 38 weeks' gestation with a singleton pregnancy, was admitted to the Obstetrical Unit with uterine cramping and decreased fetal movement...

Bleeding after laparoscopic gynaecological surgery remains a potential complication. We assessed RADA16 (PuraStat®), a topical self-assembling peptide haemostatic agent, in a pilot study of 46 women undergoing laparoscopic gynaecological surgery. The primary outcome was intraoperative haemostatic efficacy for resection site bleeding. Haemostasis was achieved in all intraoperative bleeding situations (40/40 participants: 100%) with no clinically significant surgical bed bleeding or complications. Mean volume and time required to achieve haemostasis were 6 mL and 14 sec, respectively...

BACKGROUND: Fallopian tubal tuberculosis (FTTB), which typically presents with non-specific clinical symptoms and mimics ovarian malignancies clinically and radiologically, often affects young reproductive females and can lead to infertility if not promptly managed. Early diagnosis by imaging modalities is crucial for initiating timely anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) treatment. Currently, comprehensive radiological descriptions of this relatively rare disease are limited. We aimed to comprehensively investigate the computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of FTTB in patients from the Kashi area, which has the highest incidence of TB in China, to extend radiologists' understanding of this disease...

INTRODUCTION: Perineal hernia (PH) is a rare complication that can occur after abdominoperineal resection for rectal cancer. Laparoscopic repair of PHs has gained increasing popularity compared to open approaches due to advantages such as superior visualization, decreased invasiveness, and faster recovery. This case report highlights the successful use of laparoscopic tension-free mesh repair for concurrent perineal and inguinal hernias after rectal cancer surgery. Drug therapy is one of the most important strategies for treating gynecological diseases. Local drug delivery is promising for achieving optimal regional drug exposure, considering the complex anatomy and dynamic environment of the upper genital tract. Here, we present microparticle-based microcarriers with a hierarchical structure for localized dienogest (DNG) delivery and endometriosis treatment. The microparticles were fabricated by microfluidics and consisted of photo-crosslinked bovine serum albumin hydrogel particles (D@P-B MPs) encapsulating DNG-loaded PLGA (poly lactic-co-glycolic acid) microspheres...

Tarlov cysts adjacent to the spinal cord are usually asymptomatic and found incidentally via magnetic resonance imaging. On rare occasions, they increase in size to produce symptoms resembling disk herniation. We report a rare case of a sacral cyst resulting in premature ejaculation in a 32-year-old man who presented with pelvic pain and acquired premature ejaculation. Spinal nerve root decompression, excision of intraspinal Tarlov cyst, and spinal nerve root adhesion release surgery significantly improved his pain and premature ejaculation at a six-month follow-up...

We report a fatal case of early postoperative peritoneal dissemination in a patient who was diagnosed with cervical squamous cell carcinoma after laparoscopic hysterectomy for hematometra. A 73-year-old multiparous woman with pyometra and lower abdominal pain was referred to our hospital. Her medical history was remarkable for four open surgeries and conization at the age of 40 years. The cytology obtained from the mucosa of the palpated cervix was negative. The cytology and bacterial culture of the mucus collected from the uterine cavity were negative...

Endometriosis, a common chronic gynecological disease, refers to the presence and proliferation of endometrial tissue in locations other than the uterine cavity. Approximately 6 to 10% of the population of women of childbearing age are known to have endometriosis; the most common clinical signs are pelvic pain and infertility. Although endometriosis is a benign disease, it exhibits some typical features of malignant tumors, such as proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and recurrence. Endometriosis is considered a chronic, inflammatory, and estrogen-dependent disease, and multiple factors contribute to its occurrence and development...

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) markedly affects the quality of life of women, including significant financial burden. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, we constructed a transcriptional profile of 30,452 single cells of the uterosacral ligament in POP and control samples, which has never been constructed before. We identified 10 major cell types, including smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, neutrophils, macrophages, monocytes, mast cells, T cells, B cells, and dendritic cells. We performed subpopulation analysis and pseudo-time analysis of POP primary cells, and explored differentially expressed genes...

INTRODUCTION: Bowel obstruction is one of the most common postoperative complications in pelvic surgery. In most cases, adhesive mechanical ileus of the small bowel is the cause. In procedures such as Hartmann's resection or abdominoperineal rectal resection, it seems that the large wound area on the pelvic walls and pelvic floor and the dead space after the removed rectum with mesorectum contribute to the ileus condition. The aim of this paper was to identify the risk factors for ileus after selected pelvic procedures and to map the possible ways of prevention and treatment of these complications...

Tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) is a late complication of pelvic inflammatory disease. Its diagnosis is difficult because it is occasionally accompanied by atypical symptoms such as abdominal pain and fever. A 45-year-old married woman presented with recurrent abdominal pain and fever. Her medical history included ovarian surgery 14 years prior to presentation. Computed tomography (CT) performed by her local doctor confirmed uterine fibroids and a left ovarian tumor. Following a detailed examination and magnetic resonance imaging at our hospital, a TOA was suspected, and surgery was planned...

The occurrence of splenic or ovarian hydatid cyst is rare; simultaneous involvement of both is extremely uncommon.
