Background: Recent studies hypothesize that dyslipidemia can predict glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and could be important contributing factor to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the influence of lipid parameters on long-term glycemic control in DM2. Materials and Methods: A total of 275 sedentary DM2 (mean [±standard deviation] age 60.6 [±10.0] years) who volunteered to participate in this cross-sectional study were enrolled...

Depression and anxiety are hightly prevalent among patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), however not commonly related to outcomes, treatment and comorbidities. Eating behaviors could also have an implication. To evaluate the relation between mood and eating behaviors with demographic, physical, treatment, biochemical profiles and chronic comorbidities in T2D we conducted this exploratory cross sectional study in a population from Mexico. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire Revised 21 (TFEQ-R21) were correlated with age, gender, blood pressure, treatment and comorbidities (nephropathy, neuropathy, retinopathy and cardiopathy)...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between early age at menarche and blood pressure in Chinese girls aged 7 to 17 years. METHODS: A total of 76 869 girls aged 7 to 17 years old were selected from the national physical fitness and health research in 2010, and probit analyses were used to calculate the average age of menarche for each province. Girls whose age were lower than the P 10 of age at menarche were judged as early age at menarche, and matched with two selected participant without menarche based on the age and the same urban or rural areas...

UNLABELLED: Low birth weight (bw) has been related to low nephron number and hypertension. Age is an important predictor of developing hypertension in patients with reflux nephropathy (RN). The aim of the study was to assess the relationships between birth weight and blood pressure in children with RN. We investigated 150 patients in mean age 9 +/- 3.3 years with vesicoureteral reflux. In all patients we collected birth weight, we also performed renal scintigraphy (DMSA) and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)...

OBJECTIVE: To identify factors predicting the success or the failure of intervention on blood pressure in a population estimated at high risks. METHODS: The program "Coeur 2001" has analysed the absolute cardiovascular risk (ACVR Framingham) in 107 371 voluntary French railways employees. In the company, were considered at high risk (HR), subjects for whom risk was > or = to the 95th percentile of the distribution of the observed ACVR by age range: ACVR > or = 4...

In view of the use of an electronically processed digital plethysmography as a noninvasive pharmacological tool - particularly to measure effects of organic nitrates - 9 healthy young volunteers were examined. The purpose of the investigation was to study baseline recordings and to assess the effects of several well defined exogenous influences. The electronic processor calculated the D/H-ratio of each plethysmographic pulse wave, where D represents the depth of the dicrotic minimum measured from the apex of the systolic maximum and H the total hight of the plethysmographic wave...

Women of almost identical age but with a different menopausal state were compared in a population study of women, which was carried out in Goteborg, Sweden. The group of women aged 50 comprised about the same number of still menstruating and postmenopausal women and was, therefore, especially suitable for such a comparison. Serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides were higher in postmenopausal than in premenopausal 50-yr-old women and seemed to increase with postmenopausal time. The differences between premenopausal and postmenopausal women were hightly significant...

In experiments on 105 white rats using histological, histochemical, and morphometric methods the state of the lungs following daily "rises" in a pressure chamber to the "hight" of 5000--9000 m at verious time intervals--from 1 day to 9 weeks was studied. In 18 animals "ascents" were preceded by sinistral pulmonectomy. In parallel, the heart was investigated by the method of separate weighing. At initial stages changes in the lungs were characterized predominantly by impairment of the blood- and lymphocirculation...
