Primary ovarian carcinoid tumors (POCT) are well-differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms and account for <0.1% of ovarian tumors. POCT usually arise in the context of mature cystic teratoma; however, pure primary ovarian carcinoids without teratomatous or mucinous elements are very rare. We present a case of a 54-year-old woman that underwent total laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy because of endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. The ovaries were macroscopically normal. Pathology report revealed a primary ovarian carcinoid with mixed trabecular and insular growth patterns...

A 9-year-old boy presented to the emergency department after noticing a painless mass on the right testicle during self-examination in the shower. On physical examination, both testes were mobile and painless, with the right testis twice as big as the left and exhibiting palpable resistance. Sonographic examination revealed a uniformly demarcated mass with a ventral protrusion on the right testis. Tumor markers and blood tests were normal. The testis was exposed inguinally and the tumor was enucleated, which revealed a dermoid cyst...

The purpose of this study was to analyze the outcomes of extracranial GCT in children in a developing country and to assess prognostic factors. The data on 141 children (<18 years old) with extracranial GCT, confirmed histopathologically, collected over the past 9 years (from February 2013 to June 2022) were retrospectively studied. The patients underwent the same therapy with platinum-containing chemotherapy regimens. In the malignant GCT group, OS and EFS were 81.0 ± 4% and 73 ± 5%, respectively...

Teratomas are rare neoplasms that arise from totipotent stem cells. Teratomas of the head and neck are extremely rare, constituting about 10% of all cases and usually present in the neonatal period. Extensive literature search has shown that there are only two cases reportedof teratoma of the ethmoid sinus; one as a mature teratoma in a neonate and another was histologically immature teratoma in an adult male (Mwang'ombe et al. in East Afr Med J 79(2):106-107, 2002; Aggarwal et al. in J Postgrad Med 59(2):138-141, 2013)...

BACKGROUND: Neonatal oral cavity masses present complex diagnostic and management challenges, often involving respiratory distress. We present a case of a 1-day-old male neonate with an oral cavity mass and respiratory distress, whose antenatal scan revealed polyhydramnios and a nasopalatine cyst. CASE REPORT: Clinical examination revealed a 5 * 5 cm cystic swelling arising from the right hard palate. Chylothorax is defined as a pleural effusion with triglyceride levels greater than 110 mg/dL and/or chylomicrons present in the pleural fluid. A chylothorax may be classified as traumatic or nontraumatic, with malignancy being the most common cause of atraumatic chylothoraces. Herein, we present the case of a 63-year-old woman with a past medical history of a mediastinal teratoma and stage III colon adenocarcinoma who presented to the emergency room with new-onset shortness of breath. The extrapolability of the current tumorigenicity test performed by transplanting human cell product into immunodeficient (NOG) mice was investigated. For this purpose, the susceptibility to form teratomas of NOG mice was assessed by transplanting undifferentiated human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) as positive control cells via the liver, striatum, or tail vein and evaluating the TPD50 value (dose required to form teratomas in half of the transplanted mice). This was then compared to the TPD50 of syngeneic or allogeneic mouse models...

BACKGROUND: Wound healing is one of the important processes in the body. Attempts to create new drugs are of interest due to the side effects of natural and chemical wound healing compounds. To overcome this obstacle, stem cells have been used as healing agents. However, both difficulties in collection and risks such as rejection and teratoma in the recipient body have limited the use of stem cells, directly. Since the potential content of the stem cells can be transferred to the recipient cells by vesicles, small extracellular vesicles have recently become prominent agents...

Gastric teratomas are very rare tumours. They present with upper abdomen distension which can easily be confused with other common conditions with mass per abdomen in the paediatric age group. Surgical excision is curative for gastric teratomas. The diagnosis is confirmed by radiological evaluation followed by histopathological analysis of excised specimen. We are reporting two such cases of gastric teratomas who presented with complaints of upper abdomen distension. They were evaluated with radiological imaging and successfully managed by surgical excision...

INTRODUCTION: Genetically modified human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-based regenerative medicine has substantial potential in the treatment of refractory human diseases. Thus, preclinical studies on the safety and efficacy of these products are essential. Non-human primate (NHP) models such as the rhesus macaque are highly similar to humans in terms of size, lifespan, and immune system, rendering them superior models. However, effective gene transduction in rhesus macaque iPSCs (Rh-iPSCs) remains challenging...

Ovarian immature teratoma (IT) is a rare neoplasm comprising ∼3% of ovarian cancers, occurring primarily in young females. Management presents several challenges, including those with elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein, potential confusion regarding pathology interpretation, and paucity of data to support decision-making. Although ovarian cystic teratoma is the most common ovarian tumor, complications are quite rare. However, it is important to be recognized by the radiologist in order to avoid inaccurately diagnosing them as malignant lesions. This case report describes a 61-year-old postmenopausal woman, who presented to the emergency room with abdominal pain following a minor blunt abdominal trauma. In this context, a CT scan was performed, which showed the presence of round, hypodense masses randomly distributed in the peritoneum, with coexisting ascites in moderate amount; ovarian carcinoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis was suspected...

Both male and female reproductive functions are impacted by altered gonadotrophin secretion and action, which may also influence the development of endocrine tumours. To ascertain if chronic hypersecretion of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) contributes to the development of gonadal tumours, double transgenic (TG) mice that overexpress hCGα- and β-subunits were analysed. By the age of two months, ovarian tumours with characteristics of teratomas developed with 100% penetrance. Teratomas were also seen in wild-type ovaries orthotopically transplanted into TG mice, demonstrating an endocrine/paracrine mechanism for the hCG-induced ovarian tumorigenesis...

Creating hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) capable of multilineage engraft while possessing the ability to self-renew stands as a pivotal achievement within the field of regenerative medicine. However, achieving the generation of these cells without transgene expression or teratoma formation has not been fully accomplished. In a recent publication featured in Cell Stem Cell , Piau et al. document the production of functional HSCs derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). They achieved this through a one-step differentiation protocol that notably does not require any transgene expression...
