In late December 2019, the novel coronavirus (Sars-Cov-2) and the resulting disease COVID-19 were first identified in Wuhan China. The disease slipped through containment measures, with the first known case in the United States being identified on January 20th, 2020. In this paper, we utilize survey data from the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research and apply several statistical and machine learning models and techniques such as Decision Trees, Multinomial Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes, k-Nearest Neighbors, Support Vector Machines, Neural Networks, Random Forests, Gradient Tree Boosting, XGBoost, CatBoost, LightGBM, Synthetic Minority Oversampling, and Chi-Squared Test to analyze the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the mental health of frontline workers in the United States...

BACKGROUND: Applying new methods of clinical education seems to provide nursing students with educational opportunities. The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of training through demonstration, video display, and virtual social space on the learning of clinical skills among nursing students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this semi-experimental research with posttest that was performed in 2019, thirty nursing students of the seventh semester were randomly assigned to three groups of demonstration, video display, and the social virtual space education with ten people in each group...

For many cancer survivors, post-treatment challenges are predominantly related to their personal and social lives. These challenges are part of an experiential learning process linked to a survivor's identity, their desire to preserve independence, their social roles, and responsibilities along with a return to their normal lives. We used interpretive description to describe the experiential learning process of cancer survivors as they recover post-treatment. Data from five group discussions with 27 participants were combined with data from 9 in-depth individual interviews that examined post-treatment challenges...

INTRODUCTION: Primary health care (PHC), the cornerstone of health systems, has an important role in infectious disease control. The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic has put a burden on health systems worldwide and especially on healthcare workers at the first line delivering their services in remote areas of Greece. This study investigates preparedness and awareness level of primary healthcare workers (PHCWs) and their risk perception in managing the pandemic during its initial phase. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in public PHC units in Greece...

Improving nursing students' subjective happiness is germane for efficiency in the nursing profession. This study examined the subjective happiness of nursing students by applying social network analysis (SNA) and developing a strategy to improve the subjective happiness of nursing. The study adopted a cross sectional survey to measure subjective happiness and social network of 222 nursing students. The results revealed that the centralization index, which is a measure of intragroup interactions from the perspective of an entire network, was higher in the senior year compared with the junior year...

African American women are at higher risk of poor mental ill health compared with other racial and ethnic groups in the United States. For low-income and homeless African American populations, the risk of poor mental ill health is even higher. The purpose of our study was to learn what programmes at a long-term transitional living centre helped at-risk and homeless African American mothers to succeed on their own, in accordance with self-identified goals. We conducted ten focus group interviews with 39 graduates of a long-term transitional living centre located in a Midwestern city, and an individual interview with the founder of that centre (N = 40)...

BACKGROUND: Diabetes has placed heavy social and economic burdens on society and families worldwide. Insufficient knowledge and training of frontline medical staff, such as nurses, interns, and residents, may lead to an increase in acute and chronic complications among patients with diabetes. However, interns have insufficient knowledge about diabetes management. The factors that affect interns' current level of diabetes-related knowledge are still unclear. Therefore, understanding the behavioral intentions of interns is essential to supporting the development and promotion of the use of virtual simulation teaching applications...

After initiating breastfeeding, some African American mothers find adjusting to the demands challenging and discontinue breastfeeding. To learn about decisions switching to formula, we conducted a secondary analysis of qualitative interviews with African American mothers ≥ 18 years old. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis guided by the social cognitive theory. We identified four key themes that reflect personal, behavioral, and environmental factors: (1) simplicity of formula, (2) diverse support networks, (3) early breastfeeding is most important, and (4) lack of access to breastfeeding support resources...

BACKGROUND: To provide value-based care for patients with multi-morbidity, innovative integrated care programmes and comprehensive evaluations of such programmes are required. In Norway, a new programme called "Holistic Continuity of Patient Care" (HCPC) addresses the issue of multi-morbidity by providing integrated care within learning networks for frail elderly patients who receive municipal home care services or a short-term stay in a nursing home. This study conducts a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to evaluate whether the HCPC programme performs better on a large set of outcomes corresponding to the 'triple aim' compared to usual care...

Current epidemiological situation has prompted the consideration of multimorbility (MM) as a prevalent condition, influenced by age, educational level and social support, related to unfavorable social and health determinants. Primary Care (PC) has a key role in its approach but further training of professionals in MM is required. The evidence on the effectiveness of training interventions in MM is still limited. Knowing the experiences, opinions and training needs of professionals is essential to enhance training interventions...

OBJECTIVES: Physicians working in the emergency department (ED) will interact with two-spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and intersex (2SLGBTQI+) persons as colleagues and patients. These patients have unique healthcare needs and encounter negative experiences when seeking medical care, leading to poorer health outcomes and inequities. This study aims to explore the attitudes, behaviour, and comfort of Canadian emergency medicine (EM) physicians in caring for 2SLGBTQI+ patients...

BACKGROUND: Face-to-face feedback plays an important role in health professionals' workplace learning. The literature describes guiding principles regarding effective feedback but it is not clear how to enact these. We aimed to create a Feedback Quality Instrument (FQI), underpinned by a social constructivist perspective, to assist educators in collaborating with learners to support learner-centred feedback interactions. In earlier research, we developed a set of observable educator behaviours designed to promote beneficial learner outcomes, supported by published research and expert consensus...

BACKGROUND: Approximately 4 years ago a new concept of learning in practice called the 'Learning and Innovation Network (LIN)' was introduced in The Netherlands. To develop a definition of the LIN, to identify working elements of the LIN in order to provide a preliminary framework for evaluation, a concept analysis was conducted. METHOD: For the concept analysis, we adopted the method of Walker and Avant.
