MULTICENTER STUDY

BACKGROUND: When an incurable fetal condition is detected, some women (or couples) would rather choose to continue with the pregnancy than opt for termination of pregnancy for medical reasons, which, in France, can be performed until full term. Such situations are frequently occurring and sometimes leading to the implementation of neonatal palliative care. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the practices of perinatal care french professionals in this context; to identify the potential obstacles that might interfere with the provision of an appropriate neonatal palliative care; and, from an opposite perspective, to determine the criteria that led, in some cases, to offer this type of care for prenatally diagnosed lethal abnormality...

Although most vasculitis require histological proof for a definitive diagnosis, diagnostic imaging can be very helpful in this regard, allowing a proper evaluation of the vascular system and monitoring the response to treatment. Even though vasculitis is constituted by different pathological substrates, they show a common semiologic pattern from a radiological standpoint which is represented by inflammation, arterial wall thickening, and potential secondary development of vascular stenosis, occlusions or aneurysms...

Substituting generic formulations of the same chemical agent is a common practice in German health care on the basis of so called rebate contracts. The substitution of a medication may affect the patients' adherence or result in adverse events. While adverse events which may be caused by the pharmacological activity of the agent itself can be explained, some non-specific side effects cannot be substantiated referring to pharmacological factors. These adverse reactions are summarized under the term nocebo effect...

The isotope dilution method is characterized by the use of appropiately labelled standard compounds in conjunction with mass spectrometry coupled to chromatographic systems. Although the isotope dilution method seems to be a simple procedure, some quality criteria for sample preparation, measurement and quantification have to be considered. Furthermore, archiving and documentation of analysis data as well as the use of reference materials to validate the analysis method are important with regard to European standard regulations for quality assurance...
