Understanding a population's fitness heterogeneity and genetic basis of thermal adaptation is essential for predicting the responses to global warming. We examined the thermotolerance and genetic adaptation of Plutella xylostella to exposure to hot temperatures. The population fitness parameters of the hot-acclimated DBM strains varied in the thermal environments. Using genome scanning and transcription profiling, we find a number of genes potentially involved in thermal adaptation of DBM. Editing two ABCG transporter genes, PxWhite and PxABCG , confirmed their role in altering cuticle permeability and influencing thermal responses...

This study aimed to assess the association between the double burden of malnutrition (DBM) with continued breastfeeding and the early introduction of ultra-processed drinks in children living in situations of social vulnerability. This cross-sectional population-based study was carried out in a capital city in the Northeast of Brazil, which included 561 children. It was observed that introducing soft drinks into the child's diet during the first year of life was directly associated with DBM but indirectly with continuous breastfeeding for 12 or more months...

The need for ever-faster information processing requires exceptionally small devices that operate at frequencies approaching the terahertz and petahertz regimes. For the diagnostics of such devices, researchers need a spatiotemporal tool that surpasses the device under test in speed and spatial resolution. Consequently, such a tool cannot be provided by electronics itself. Here we show how ultrafast electron beam probe with terahertz-compressed electron pulses can directly sense local electro-magnetic fields in electronic devices with femtosecond, micrometre and millivolt resolution under normal operation conditions...

Background and Objectives : Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) plays a crucial role in addressing various spinal disorders. The success of PLIF is contingent upon achieving bone fusion, as failure can lead to adverse clinical outcomes. Demineralized bone matrix (DBM) has emerged as a promising solution for promoting fusion due to its unique combination of osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of three distinct DBMs (Exfuse® , Bongener® , and Bonfuse® ) in achieving fusion rates in PLIF surgery...

This study describes a technique to clean amplitude modulation (AM) noise of RF transmission waves, which is used to observe the sub-GHz CW-EPR spectrum. An RF transmitter amplifier that has the function of cleaning AM noise has been developed. Cleaning of the AM noise was owing to saturation of the output at the amplifier. Three stages of the amplifiers in series could effectively suppress the AM noise to about -176 dBc/Hz and -183 dBc/Hz at offset frequency of 10 kHz and 100 kHz, respectively at the carrier frequency of 750 MHz and the output power of 29 dBm...

This study examined the effectiveness of coating demineralized bone matrix (DBM) with amorphous calcium phosphate (DBM + CaP), as well as a composite of DBM, calcium phosphate, and serum albumin (DBM + CaP + BSA). The intact structure of DBM promotes the transformation of amorphous calcium phosphate (CaP) into dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) with a characteristic plate shape and particle size of 5-35 µm. The inclusion of BSA in the coating resulted in a better and more uniform distribution of CaP on the surface of DBM trabeculae...

Enhancing the performance of traditional pesticide formulations by improving their leaf surface wetting capabilities is a crucial approach for maximizing the pesticide efficiency. This study develops an emulsifiable concentrate (EC) of 4.5% β-cypermethrin containing Brucea javanica oil (BJO). The incorporation of BJO aims to improve the leaf-wetting properties of the EC formulation and enhance its insecticidal effectiveness. The droplet size and emulsion characteristics of β-CYP EC emulsion with varying concentrations of the emulsifier were evaluated, and changes after incorporating BJO were assessed to develop the optimal formulation...

Recently we introduced the active Dyson Brownian motion model (DBM), in which N run-and-tumble particles interact via a logarithmic repulsive potential in the presence of a harmonic well. We found that in a broad range of parameters the density of particles converges at large N to the Wigner semicircle law as in the passive case. In this paper we provide an analytical support for this numerical observation by studying the fluctuations of the positions of the particles in the nonequilibrium stationary state of the active DBM in the regime of weak noise and large persistence time...

Excessive ultraviolet (UV) radiation has serious damage to human's health, therefore the development of visible, portable, and wearable sensor for monitoring UV radiation, especially the cumulative UV dosage, is highly desired but full of challenges. Herein, a wearable and flexible UV dosimeter based on photochromic perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) is designed. The obtained CsPbCl3 PNCs dispersed in dibromomethane (PNCs-DBM) undergo continuous, vivid, and multiple (from very weak purple to blue, cyan, and finally strong green) color change in response to UV radiation...

Integral proteins or enzymes are still challenging to purify into their native state because of their need for an amphipathic environment and cofactors. Alkane hydroxylase (AlkB) is a membrane-bound enzyme that catalyzes the hydroxylation of a range of alkanes that have a broad spectrum of applications. In the current study, a novel approach has been explored for partial purification of alkane hydroxylase (AlkB) in its native state through restructuring the lipid bilayer of Penicillium chrysogenum SNP5 into a liposome to extend the native and protective environment to AlkB enzyme...

A reformed particle swarm optimization (RPSO )-based up-conversion mixer circuit is proposed for radar application in this paper. In practice, a non-optimized up-conversion mixer suffers from high power consumption, poor linearity, and conversion gain. Therefore, the RPSO algorithm is proposed to optimize the up-conversion mixer. The novelty of the proposed RPSO algorithm is it helps to solve the problem of local optima and premature convergence in traditional particle swarm optimization (TPSO ). Furthermore, in the RPSO , a velocity position-based convergence (VPC ) and wavelet mutation (WM ) strategy are used to enhance RPSO 's swarm diversity...

It examines machine learning algorithms in conjunction with empirically collected data to develop an effective propagation model for LoRaWAN. We propose decoupling feature extraction and regression analysis, which facilitates training data requirements. In our comparative analysis, decision-tree-based gradient boosting achieved the lowest root-mean-squared error of 5.53 dBm. Another advantage of this model is its interpretability, which is exploited to qualitatively observe the governing propagation mechanisms...

The narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) has been developed to provide low-power, wide-area IoT applications. The efficiency of a power amplifier (PA) in a transmitter is crucial for a longer battery lifetime, satisfying the requirements for output power and linearity. In addition, the design of an internal complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) PA is typically required when considering commercial applications to include the operation of an optional external PA.
