The inverted sino-nasal papilloma is a benign epithelial lesion, ranging from 1% to 5% of the tumors that reside in this area. It is characterized by a tendency towards local bone destruction, recurrence and malignant transformation. This is a presentation of two cases diagnosed and surgically treated for malignant inverted papiloma, which started in the epithelium of the maxillary sinuses. The cases had in common the late presentation of the patient to the surgeon, thus the local destruction was significant with extension towards the eye socket and the base of the skull...

The aims of the present study were to investigate the expression of minichromosome maintenance complex component 7 (MCM7) and determine its association with tumor proliferation and invasion in pathological tumor (pT)a and pT1 papillary urothelial neoplasia. The MCM7, MCM3 and Ki67 proteins were detected in 154 cases of urothelial neoplasia using immunohistochemical analysis. The expression of MCM7 significantly increased (P<0.001) as the pathological stage and grade progressed between inverted papilloma, papillary urothelial neoplasm of low malignant potential (PUNLMP), pTa tumor and pT1 tumor...

This article deals with anogenital warts (AGW) injuries caused by human papiloma virus (HPV) in children. Diagnosis, epidemiology, modes of transmission, differential diagnosis, relationship between AGW and cancer are descript. Also, it remarks the presence of AGW as indicator of child sexual abuse. Finally, it includes suggestions for the management of patients and their families by the paediatrician.

INTRODUCTION: Tumors affecting the fetus and newborn differ from those found in older children and adults, leading to new diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. AIM: To evaluate the main clinical aspects related to neonatal tumors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective analysis of clinical data from newborn patients admitted to the Service of Neonatology of São João Hospital between 1996 and 2006, with the diagnosis of tumor or neoplasia. RESULTS: Total = 32 cases, 16M/16F, birth weight: 3146 g (965-4590), gestational age 38 weeks (28-41), seven (22%) preterm, C-section rate 75% (n = 24), two with EXIT procedure...

During laryngomicroscopy, the superficial layers of vocal fold epithelium can be examined in vivo and in situ by contact endoscopy. Methylene blue is applied initially to stain the epihelial cells of the vocal folds. When in contact with mucosal tissue, this endoscope provides 60 and 150 times magnification and clear visualization of cellular patterns of the superficial epithelial layers. For the first time in our laryngological clinical practice, we confirmed a number of previosly established parametars such as regularity and arrangement of the epithelium, nucleus contour, and nucleus-cytoplasm ratio, what all enable recognition and easy evaluation of different clinical conditions such as chronic laryngitis, Reinke's edema, papiloma dysplasia or vocal fold carcinoma...

The Virus of the Human Papiloma (HPV), classically he/she has been related with infections of sexual transmission and processes wicked oncologists of the feminine genital apparatus and with less frequency of the masculine one. The new technical diagnostics, based on molecular biology (by means of polymerase chain reaction), they help to a better epidemic approach, an improvement in the I diagnose viral, and a correct therapeutic focus. The object of this work is to revise the current state of the HPV from the points of view etiopathogenics, epidemic, clinical, diagnosis, therapeutic and preservative...

The purpose of this work was to determine the expression of type Th1 cytokines: IL-2 and IFNgamma, and Th2: IL-4 and IL-6, as well as TNF-alpha in patients with precancerous lesions of the uterine cervix and their relationship with the human papiloma virus (HPV). 30 patients with precancerous lesions (NIC 1: 70%, NIC 2: 16.7% and NIC 3: 1.3%) and 9 normal controls were studied. A clinical history, gynecological evaluation, cytology and an uterine biopsy were carried out in each patient and control. PCR was used for the diagnosis of HPV...

We present a study made during 4 years (1992-1996), which pursued the underlining of the atypical intraductal hiperplasias (A.I.D.H.) lesions, met isolated or in the association with mamar carcinoma. Our study included a 188 number of the breast tumors, among: in the 23 cases we established the existence of the modification by the A.I.D.H, type at the fibrocystics disease associated or not with the other benign diseases of the breast (fibroadenosis, intraductal papiloma) and in the 63 cases there were the modification by the AIDH associated with in situ or invasiv carcinoma...

Representing about 20% of all woman's cancers in all the world, breast cancer is a multifactorial disease with unknown mechanism facts which may explain the significant growth of incidence and mortality in the last few years. In the absence of screening program in majority cases the diagnosis is discovered too late. In this present study we have made a retrospective study on 487 patients during 1996-2000 at the 1st Surgical Clinic from Craiova. The purpose of this study was the defining of the population with an increased risk which has to be monitorized...

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the concordance between presurgical diagnosis and anatomical pathology diagnosis in 370 cutaneous lesions in primary care centres. DESIGN: Descriptive study.Setting. Primary care centres and hospital pathology service, Medina del Campo. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: The prior diagnosis was compared with the anatomical pathology for simple agreement. There were 370 lesions. Complete date were obtained for 345 lesions of 298 patients (156 male and 142 female, aged between 6 and 98)...

Tumors of the lacrimal sac are rare. Benign papillomas comprise approximately 40% of all neoplasms of the lacrimal drainage system. They often present insidiously with symptoms of dacryostenosis or dacryocystitis. Recurrent bouts of dacryocystitis and nasolacrimal duct obstruction were reported in a 35-year-old man over a period of 13 years. A medial canthal mass was noted in the 6th year after the onset of symptoms. A tumor was discovered incidentally during surgical intervention for presumed dacryostenosis...
