BACKGROUND: Despite unprecedented socio-economic growth experienced by Indians in the past few decades, and a long history of anti-anaemia public health measures, prevalence of anaemia in Indian non-pregnant women of reproductive age group (NPWRA) has not declined. This warrants a firm understanding of what explains the anaemia situation over time, preferably by sub-populations. Therefore, we aimed to examine the trends of anaemia in tribal NPWRA (least privileged) and compare with the trends in the NPWRA of general caste (most privileged) between 1998 to 2021...

Liposarcoma rarely occurs in the pleura or thoracic cavity, and few reports appear in the literature. We hypothesized that combining clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, and fluorescence in situ hybridization methods would allow definite diagnoses. Using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded blocks, we examined 6 atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcomas (ALT/WDLPS), 5 dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DDLPSs), 2 pleomorphic liposarcomas, and 1 myxoid liposarcoma (MLPS). We used the Kaplan-Meier method and the Wilcoxon test for survival analysis for prognostic factor evaluation...

In Denmark, a Pure Pork concept for raising pigs without antibiotics was initiated in 2015 by the Danish Crown slaughterhouse cooperative. Pure Pork herds are characterised by minimal use of antibiotics and pigs are mainly treated individually. An increased prevalence of pigs suffering from umbilical outpouchings (UO) is a considerable challenge for Pure Pork producers. Umbilical outpouchings in pigs are challenging due to reduced welfare and increased workload and cost for the farmer. Therefore, Pure Pork producers require means other than antibiotic treatment to prevent UO...

Hospital bed shortage is a worldwide concern. Their unavailability has caused elective surgery cancellations at our hospital peaking in spring 2016 at over 50%. This is often due to difficult patient step-down from intensive care (ICU) and high-dependency units (HDU). In our general/digestive surgery service admitting approximately 1000 patients yearly, ward rounds were run on a consultant firm basis. We report quality improvement (ISRCTN13976096) after we introduced a structured daily multidisciplinary board round framework (SAFER Surgery R2G) adapted from the 'SAFER patient flow bundle' and the 'Red to Green days' approaches to enhance flow...

An approximately 30-year-old intact female Asiatic black bear ( Ursus thibetanus ) was presented for annual examination and a history of ptyalism. A large 9.5 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm, firm, round mass was identified attached to the hard palate on physical examination. A computed tomography scan was performed, and the heterogeneous, mineral-attenuating mass was seen arising from the right aspect of the palatine bone and extending rostrally to the level of the last maxillary molars, caudally into the oropharynx, and dorsally into the nasal choana...

Angioleiomyoma is a benign, pericytic (perivascular) neoplasm that primarily occurs in the subcutis or dermis of the extremities. The lesion typically presents as a small, firm, slow-growing, painful nodule. Magnetic resonance imaging reveals the lesion to be a well-defined, round to oval mass with signal intensity similar to or slightly hyperintense to that of skeletal muscle on T1-weightwed sequences. A dark reticular sign on T2-weighted sequences appears to be a characteristic feature of angioleiomyoma. Prominent enhancement is usually seen after intravenous contrast...

Most human cells require anchorage for survival. Cell-substrate adhesion activates diverse signalling pathways, without which cells undergo anoikis-a form of programmed cell death1 . Acquisition of anoikis resistance is a pivotal step in cancer disease progression, as metastasizing cells often lose firm attachment to surrounding tissue2,3 . In these poorly attached states, cells adopt rounded morphologies and form small hemispherical plasma membrane protrusions called blebs4-11 . Bleb function has been thoroughly investigated in the context of amoeboid migration, but it has been examined far less in other scenarios12 ...

The emergence of a low-carbon economy, the impact on the traditional industrial structure and the formation of a new economic landscape make China, a developing country, eager to seize this opportunity to enhance its international competitiveness. To achieve this, it is necessary to establish a low-carbon concept, to actively restructure industrial and develop low-carbon industries; only in this way can we take advantage of the new round of industrial restructuring and grasp the initiative of development...

Trichoepithelioma is a rare benign tumour of the pilosebaceous unit that originates from the hair follicles. Although it rarely results in facial disfigurement, it is thought to be the cause of leonine facies. We discuss a 27-year-old woman who presented with facies Leonine caused by trichoepitheliomas. The first line of treatment for these multiple symmetrical, firm, and round papules or nodules is excisional surgery.

We analyzed the anatomy of cladode chlorenchyma tissue of plants exposed to light under chilling. We found that chilling acclimatization can be achieved by exposure to approximately 15 °C for 2 weeks and suggest that it is affected by whether or not antioxidant capacity can recover...

This paper describes a method for measuring and compensating the roundness error of a larger mandrel manufactured by an ultra-precision diamond-turning lathe aimed to obtain a calibration cylinder with a roundness of less than 0.1 μm. The diamond-turning machine has a cross-stacked hydrostatic guideway, produces a cutting depth and feed movement direction, and a dual-spindle system that is firmly connected to the bed. Due to the good repeatability of aerostatic spindles, only in situ rather than online real-time measurements are required...

Adoptive cell therapy (ACT) using ex vivo engineered/expanded immune cells demonstrated poor efficacy against solid tumors, despite its great success in treating various hematopoietic malignancies. To improve ACT for solid tumors, it is crucial to comprehend how the numerous components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) surrounding solid tumor cells influence killing ability of immune cells. In this study, we sought to determine the effects of extracellular adhesion provided by extracellular matrix (ECM) of TME on immune cell cytotoxicity by devising microwell arrays coated with proteins either preventing or promoting cell adhesion...

Primary cutaneous lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of T-cell (CTCL) and B-cell lymphomas (CBCL) developing in the skin and without signs of extracutaneous disease at the time of diagnosis. The term "primary small/medium CD4+ T-cell lymphoma" was changed to "primary small/medium cutaneous CD4+ lymphoproliferative disorder" due to its indolent clinical behavior and uncertain malignant potential. This paper presents a rare case of primary cutaneous lymphoma with small to medium CD4+ T-cells. A 37-year-old patient presented with a tumor in the frontal region that had occurred approximately 8-9 months earlier...

Hibernoma is a rare tumor developing from fat cells. It is a slowly evolving, benign tumor that is rarely pain-inducing. The most frequently encountered histological form is the typical hibernoma. The main differential diagnosis is liposarcoma. Here we present a case of a lipoma-like tumor of the arm: a rare variant of hibernoma. A 45-year-old man presents with a swelling of the left arm evolving for one year. Physical examination revealed a mobile, firm, and well-defined mass of the lateral left upper arm measuring 5 cm in length with no cutaneous lesions overlying...

This paper reports on newly developed ecomorphological models for the cervid intermediate phalanx. Using a geometric morphometric approach, we quantitatively assess the overall gracility of the bone, the depth and concavity of the proximal articulation and the roundness and symmetry of the distal articulation in the intermediate phalanx, to establish relationships between morphology, locomotor behavior and environment. The morphology of the phalanx was found to vary along a gradient from gracile phalanges with shallow proximal articulations in forms adapted to yielding substrate, to robust phalanges with deeper proximal articulations in taxa adapted to firm substrate...
