INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to evaluate the cyclic and torsional fatigue resistance of the following reciprocating single-file systems: ProDesign R 25.06 (Easy Equipamentos Odontológicos, Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Reciproc R25 (VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany), and Unicone L25 (Medin SA, Nové Město in Moravě, Czech Republic). METHODS: Sixty instruments of the ProDesign R, Reciproc R25, and Unicone L25 systems (n = 20) were used. Cyclic fatigue resistance was tested measuring the time to failure in an artificial stainless steel canal with a 60° angle and a 5-mm radius of curvature (n = 10)...

OBJECTIVES: To compare the fatigue life of Tango-Endo, WaveOne GOLD, and Reciproc NiTi instruments under static model via artificial canals with different angles of curvature. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Reciproc R25, WaveOne GOLD Primary, and Tango-Endo instruments were included in this study (n = 20). All the instruments were rotated in artificial canals which were made of stainless steel with an inner diameter of 1.5 mm, 45°, 60°, and 90° angles of curvatures and a radius of curvature of 5 mm until fracture occurred, and the time to fracture was recorded in seconds using a digital chronometer...

AIM: To compare the cyclic fatigue resistances of WaveOne Gold (Denstply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), WaveOne (Dentsply Sirona), and Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) in interrupted reciprocation. METHODOLOGY: Three groups of 18 instruments each of WaveOne Gold Primary, WaveOne Primary, and Reciproc R25 were subjected to cyclic fatigue tests in reciprocation and interrupted reciprocation. The instruments in group 1 were tested in reciprocation, whereas in groups 2 and 3, reciprocation was interrupted for 1 s in every 5 s and 10 s, respectively...

Myelin basic protein (MBP) citrullination by peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes leads to incomplete protein-lipid bilayer interactions and vulnerability to proteolytic enzymes, resulting in disorganization of the myelin sheath in the central nervous system. Therefore, citrullinated MBP (citMBP) has been suggested as a hallmark of demyelination, but how citMBP is implicated in prion diseases remains unknown. For the first time, we developed mouse monoclonal anti-citMBP IgG1 (clones 1B8, 1H1, and 3C6) and IgM (clone 3G5) antibodies that recognize human citMBP at its R25, R122, and R130 residues and at its C-terminal region (or the corresponding sites in mouse MBP), respectively...

INTRODUCTION: Reciprocating instruments were developed to improve and simplify the preparation of the root canal system by allowing greater centralization of the canal and requiring a shorter learning curve. Despite the risk of instrument separation, using a reciprocating instrument in more than 1 case is a relatively common clinical practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of Reciproc (R25; VDW, Munich, Germany) and WaveOne (Primary; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) instruments according to the number of uses during the preparation of root canals in up to 3 posterior teeth...

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the influence of hydraulic retention time (HRT) and cheese whey (CW) substrate concentration (15 and 25 g lactose l(-1)) on the performance of EGSB reactors (R15 and R25, respectively) for H2 production. RESULTS: A decrease in the HRT from 8 to 4 h favored the H2 yield and H2 production rate (HPR) in R15, with maximum values of 0.86 ± 0.11 mmol H2 g COD(-1) and 0.23 ± 0.024 l H2 h(-1) l(-1), respectively. H2 production in R25 was also favored at a HRT of 4 h, with maximum yield and HPR values of 0...

OBJECTIVES: During root canal preparation, apical extrusion of debris can cause inflammation, flare-ups, and delayed healing. Therefore, instrumentation techniques that cause the least extrusion of debris are desirable. This study aimed to compare apical extrusion of debris by five single-file, full-sequence rotary and reciprocating systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred twenty human mandibular premolars with similar root lengths, apical diameters, and canal curvatures were selected and randomly assigned to six groups (n=20): Reciproc R25 (25, 0...

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of Blue thermal treatment on the bending resistance and cyclic fatigue of conventional M-Wire Reciproc files (VDW, Munich, Germany). The roughness pattern and the microhardness of the files were also assessed. METHODS: Flexibility of standard Reciproc R25 files and the corresponding Blue prototypes was determined by 45° bending tests according to the ISO 3630-1 specification. Instruments were also subjected to cyclic fatigue resistance, measuring the time to fracture in an artificial stainless steel canal with a 60° angle and a 5-mm radius of curvature...

Through the R25 Cancer Education Grants Program (CEGP), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has been supporting the broad educational needs of the cancer research and cancer healthcare communities since 1974. NCI sponsored a workshop on September 13, 2016 in Bethesda, Maryland, with the objectives of sharing best practices in cancer education, communicating R25 CEGP programmatic information, and gathering ideas to strengthen the R25 CEGP to better meet the emerging needs in cancer education in the face of a rapidly changing landscape in cancer research and cancer care...

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients can be stratified into two subgroups defined by the presence or absence of antibodies against citrullinated circular peptides (anti-CCP) with most of the genetic association found in anti-CCP positive RA. Here we addressed the role of VAV1, previously associated to multiple sclerosis (MS), in the pathogenesis of RA in experimental models and in a genetic association study. Experimental arthritis triggered by pristane or collagen type II was induced in DA rats and in the DA...

PURPOSE: For this study, we investigated quantitative radiomics of breast tumors on diffusion weighted imaging and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRIs in the task of assessing the prognostic status of breast cancers. METHODS: Our IRB-approved, retrospectively-collected dataset included 316 breast cancers with 235 ER+ and 81 ER- cases. All images were acquired during clinical breast MRI incorporating dynamic-contrast MRI and diffusion-weighted MRI. Phenotypic categories extracted quantitatively from DCE-MRI included tumor size, shape, margin sharpness, enhancement texture, kinetics, and variance kinetics, and from DWI-DCE ADC features (average, range, variation) for DWI...

Most vascular plants acclimate respiration to changes in ambient temperature, but explicit tests of these responses in field settings are rare, and how acclimation responses vary in space and time is relatively unstudied, hindering our ability to predict respiratory release of carbon under future climatic conditions. We measured temperature response curves of leaf respiration for three deciduous tree species from 2009 to 2012 in a field warming experiment (+3.4 °C above ambient) in both open and understory conditions at two sites in the southern boreal forest in Minnesota, USA...
