The current work introduces the synthesis of inorganic salt nano/micro-crystals during the reduction of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III) by Pluronic triblock copolymers (P123, PEO20 -PPO70 -PEO20 ). The morphologies and component were confirmed using an electron microscope with an electronic differential system (EDS), and the crystal structures were determined with X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphologies highly depend on the concentrations of Pluronic and pH values. The mean size of the nanocrystal and hollow micro-crystal were controlled typically in the range of 32-150 nm (side length) and 1...

Curcumin loaded in micelles of block copolymers of ω-methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) and N-(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide modified with aliphatic dilactate (CD) or aromatic benzoyl group (CN) were previously reported to inhibit human ovarian carcinoma (OVCAR-3), human colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco-2), and human lymphoblastic leukemia (Molt-4) cells. Myeloblastic leukemia cells (K562) are prone to drug resistance and differ in both cancer genotype and phenotype from the three mentioned cancer cells. In the present study, CD and CN micelles were prepared and their effects on K562 and normal cells were explored...

A heterograft copolymer with an alginate backbone, hetero-grafted by polymer pendant chains displaying different lower critical solution temperatures (LCSTs), combined with a pH-responsive poly(2-vinyl pyridine)- b -poly(ethylene oxide) (P2VP- b -PEO) diblock copolymer forming micellar nanoparticles, was investigated in aqueous media at various pHs. Due to its thermo-responsive side chains, the copolymer forms hydrogels with a thermo-induced sol-gel transition, above a critical temperature, Tgel (thermo-thickening)...

Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of respiratory infections in infants, young children, and elderly people. However, there are no effective treatments or vaccines available in most countries. In this study, we explored the anti-RSV potential of 2, 4-Di-tert-butylphenol (2, 4-DTBP), a compound derived from Houttuynia cordata Thunb. To overcome the poor solubility of 2, 4-DTBP, we encapsulated it in polymeric micelles and delivered it by inhalation. We found that 2, 4-DTBP-loaded micelles inhibited RSV infection in vitro and improved survival, lung pathology, and viral clearance in RSV-infected mice...

The aim of the work presented in this manuscript was to radiolabel methotrexate and prepare radiolabeled methotrexate micelles, an antifolate drug with Tc-99m using QbD approach. The radiolabeling was executed using the experimental design and the radiolabeled drug was further encapsulated in micelles. The authors are of the view that the radiolabeled MTX could be used to target the folate receptor overexpressing cancers such as the kidney, colorectal, breast, brain etc thereby opening newer possibilities to the theranostic applications of the formed conjugate...

Combining immune checkpoint blockade with chemotherapy through nanotechnology is promising in terms of safety and efficacy. However, the distinct subcellular distribution of each ingredient's action site makes it challenging to acquire an optimal synergism. Herein, a dual-pH responsive hybrid polymeric micelle system, HNP(αPDL16.9 ,Dox5.3 ), is constructed as a proof-of-concept for the spatial cooperativity in chemo-immunotherapy. HNP retains the inherent pH-transition of each polymer, with stepwise disassembly under discrete pH thresholds...

Much attention has been paid to the biological effects of microwave irradiation. The hydration water surrounding a biomolecule is crucial in its biological reactions and functions. Therefore, it is important to know the response of hydration water to microwaves to understand their biological effects; however, the scarcity of studies about it often leads to speculations and debates about that effect. In this study, we have made real-time temperature measurements of reverse micellar solutions with their water droplet size from ∼2...

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is one of the most important sub-cellular organelles which controls myriads of biological functions including protein biosynthesis with proper functional folded form, protein misfolding, protein transport into Golgi body for secretion, Ca2+ homeostasis and so on. Subsequently, dysregulation in ER function leads to ER stress followed by disease pathology like cancer. Hence, targeting ER in the cancer cells emerged as one of the futuristic strategies for cancer treatment. However, the major challenge is to selectively and specifically target ER in the sub-cellular milieu in the cancer tissues, due to the lack of ER targeting chemical moieties to recognize the ER markers...

RA is characterized by synovial hyperplasia, intra-articular hypoxia, upregulated expression of matrix metalloproteinases, and excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species. It should be noted that PE coacervation can outweigh the nucleation of hydrophobic blocks and invert the micelle structures at strong electrostatic strengths, leading to the formation of inverted micelles of PE cores and hydrophobic coronas...

In this study, we focus on the development of Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship (QSPR) models to predict the critical micelle concentration (CMC) for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). Experimental CMC values for both fluorinated and non-fluorinated compounds were meticulously compiled from existing literature sources. Our approach involved constructing two distinct types of models based on Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms applied to the dataset. Type (I) models were trained exclusively on CMC values for fluorinated compounds, while Type (II) models were developed utilizing the entire dataset, incorporating both fluorinated and non-fluorinated compounds...
