BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis is the most common rheumatic disease characterized by pain, structural changes and impairment of quality of life. This disease has a multifactorial etiopathogenesis, and the main role is attributed to mechanical factors. There is a primary and secondary form of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis diagnosis is carried out on the basis of history, clinical picture and radiological examinations. Osteoarthritis is a major cause of absenteeism for middle-aged people...

BACKGROUND: Infection causes cirrhosis to decompensate, affecting liver function and resulting in several complications, including esophageal variceal hemorrhage, hepatic encephalopathy, and hepatorenal syndrome. Objective: This study aimed to identify the prevalence, essential features, and related factors of bacterial infection among patients with cirrhosis in Vietnam. METHODS: This retrospective study included 317 patients diagnosed with cirrhosis, who were divided into two groups: group 1 including 125 patients with bacterial infection and group 2 including 192 patients without bacterial infection...

A Computed Tomography Urography (CTU) scan is a medical imaging test that examines the urinary tract, including the bladder, kidneys, and ureters. It helps diagnose various urinary tract diseases with precision. However, patients undergoing CTU imaging receive a relatively high dose of radiation, which can be a concern. In our research paper, we analyzed the Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDIvol ) and Dose-Length Product (DLP) for 203 adult patients who underwent CTU at one of the most important regional centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina that sees a large number of patients...

The Bosnian language holds significant importance as a member of the West-South Slavic subgroup within the Slavic branch of the Indo-European linguistic family. With approximately 2.5 million speakers in Europe, including 1.87 million individuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina alone, the Bosnian language constitutes the mother tongue for a considerable portion of the population. In Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks related to the Bosnian language, besides removing stop words, it is important to consider the influence of other linguistic elements...

The execution of Covid-19 vaccination drives in former Yugoslavia's successor states has been disappointing. The rapidly evolving literature on the Covid-19 pandemic suggests the levels of support for vaccination are correlated with education, trust in public-health institutions, and exposure to the negative economic and health effects of the pandemic. The explanations of the political foundations of vaccination hesitancy, however, need better empirical grounding. We shed light on this subject by analyzing the results of a survey conducted on more than six thousand respondents from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia, as well as a combination of public-health, economic, and sociodemographic data across more than five hundred municipalities in Croatia...

BACKGROUND: In Bosnia and Herzegovina, domestic and wild carnivores represent a significant driver for the transmission and ecology of zoonotic pathogens, especially those of parasitic aetiology. Nevertheless, there is no systematic research of Trichinella species in animals that have been conducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, even though trichinellosis is considered the most important parasitic zoonosis. The available results of the few studies carried out in Bosnia and Herzegovina are mainly related to the confirmation of parasitic larvae in the musculature of domestic pigs and wild boars or data related to trichinellosis in humans...

Mpox virus (MPXV) infection is difficult to distinguish from other (non-)infectious diseases. The etiology of rash can be differentiated by real-time polymerase chain reaction (rtPCR) on different types of samples. The study aims to provide experience with emerging MPXV diagnostics in a tertiary-level laboratory in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From July-December 2022, a total of 18 mpox suspected persons were tested. MPXV infection was confirmed by rtPCR in 10/18 (55.56 %) persons. The number of cases reached a peak in October 2022...

The research focuses on four main air pollutants (CO, NO, SO2, O3 ), the data on which were obtained from satellite images of Landsat 8 and Landsat 9, for the period 2000-2020. The data on relative cloudiness were obtained from the database CHELSA (Climatologies at high resolution for the earth's land surface areas) for the period 1980-2010. Edaphic conditions of serpentine soils, naturally rich in heavy metals, act as a strong selection pressure that shapes specific metal-tolerant ecotypes. Medicago lupulina L. (black medick) is not only a widespread plant species that prefers calcareous and dry soil types but also grows at the borders of serpentine formations. It can also be found in waste and disturbed habitats. This is a species with reported phytoremediation potential, however, there is no published data regarding the impact of the environment on the genetic distribution of this species...

Phytoremediation as a nature-based solution (NBS) and environmentally friendly technology may decrease high concentrations of trace metals in urban soils, protecting public health (especially children) and contributing to urban sustainability.
