Radioisotope-labeled prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) tracers have been proven accurate for detection of prostate cancer localizations. Uptake of those tracers in other malignant and benign lesions has been reported, including faint accumulation of Ga-PSMA-HBED-CC in adrenal adenoma. A 77-year-old man with prostate carcinoma was scanned with F-DCFPyL, a promising F-labeled PSMA ligand, for prostate-specific antigen progression while on luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist therapy. The PET/CT shows F-DCFPyL uptake in bilateral enlarged adrenals...

OBJECTIVE: To report a new technique for thulium laser enucleation of the prostate, which we called "en bloc" ThuLEP. METHODS: A full anatomic description of the technique is provided. We assessed operative variables of a 50-patient series, treated with the new "en bloc" ThuLEP, and compared them with another series of 50 patients (who had the same preoperative parameters) operated with the classical "3-lobe" technique, to assess the feasibility of the new one. All procedures were carried out by the same surgeon...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Ten percent of patients undergoing prostatic urethral lift (PUL) require repeat surgical treatment within 3 years. We describe the feasibility and considerations of performing holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) as a salvage therapy after previous PUL. METHODS: Men who had undergone HoLEP after PUL were retrospectively identified from three institutions with surgeons experienced in HoLEP. Subjects were characterized by age, time from PUL procedure (months) to HoLEP surgery, indication for retreatment, and pre-operative prostate volume by ultrasound...

Transmembrane prostate androgen-induced protein 1 (TMEPAI) is a single-span membrane protein, functionally involved in transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway. The particular protein presented in cells in three isoforms, which differs in the length of the soluble N-terminal extracellular domain, making it challenging for the immunochemical recognition. By using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, we identified significant upregulation of PMEPA1 gene expression in malignant tissues of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate numerous endoscopic techniques that have been described for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement. Plasma-button enucleation of the prostate (B-TUEP) is a successful treatment option because the large surface creates a fast enucleation process, vaporization, and concomitant hemostasis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of bipolar button electrode transurethral adenoma enucleation (B-TUEP) in saline solution. The second end point was to determine the change of International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), post-void residual urine, International Index of Erectile Function, transrectal ultrasound gland volume evaluation, and prostate-specific antigen...

PSMA PET is increasingly being used in imaging of recurrent prostate carcinoma. A case with suspected recurrent Prostate carcinoma (PCa), raised PSA (Prostate specific antigen) and suspected spinal metastases was referred for whole body Ga-68-PSMA PET/MRI. The study revealed PSMA avid recurrent prostate mass and extensive osseous metastases. Abnormal PSMA uptake in the thyroid gland prompted USG-guided FNAC which revealed Hurthle cell neoplasm. Histopathological examination (HPE) of excised gland showed multiple Hurthle cell adenomas in both lobes of thyroid along with foci of papillary thyroid carcinoma which on immunohistochemistry were thyroglobulin positive and PSA negative...

Children with adrenocortical tumors (ACTs) often present with virilization due to high tumoral androgen production, with dihydrotestosterone (DHT) as most potent androgen. Recent work revealed two pathways for DHT biosynthesis, the classic and the backdoor pathway. Usage of alternate routes for DHT production has been reported in castration-resistant prostate cancer, CAH and PCOS. To assess whether the backdoor pathway may contribute to the virilization of pediatric ACTs, we investigated seven children suffering from androgen producing tumors using steroid profiling and immunohistochemical expression studies...

PURPOSE: To analyze postoperative outcomes of prostate surgery, resected specimen weight is commonly used. The difference between the preoperative calculated transitional zone volume and actual enucleated specimen weight following holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is reported at over 20%. The reason for this difference is unclear. We assessed the association of volume of the prostatic adenoma with enucleated weight, the volume and calculated volume of the adenoma by pre- and postoperative ultrasonographic measurement...

Epilobium sp. are commonly used in traditional medicine in the treatment of early stages of benign prostatic hyperplasia and inflammation. It is suggested that a dominating constituent, oenothein B, is responsible for the extracts therapeutic effects. Several bioactivities were established for extracts and oenothein B in various in vitro models, but due to the questionable bioavailability of this dimeric macrocyclic ellagitannin, their significance in the in vivo effects remains unresolved. We have thus focused our attention on a complex comparative investigation of the in vitro and in vivo activities of phytochemically characterized Epilobium angustifolium aqueous extract and oenothein B on prostate cancer cells proliferation...

Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) is a safe and effective treatment option for benign prostatic hyperplasia. However, in some cases, it can lead to life-threatening complications. In particular, morcellation of the resected adenoma may be a very dangerous procedure when performed without clear visualization. We describe the first reported case of a vesicosigmoid fistula secondary to a morcellation injury during HoLEP.

Prostate carcinoma is the most common cancer in men. After local therapy, disease recurs in many patients. A choline PET/CT is indicated in case of biochemical relapse of prostate carcinoma to determine the site of recurrence (local and/or distant) and to help select the next line of therapy. Choline PET-CT is also known to show an elevated uptake in hyperfunctioning parathyroid adenoma. This case report shows the difficulty to distinguish between both entities if they occur simultaneously in an oncologic patient...
