The gradual acceleration of the aging population in China has led to an increased demand for mobility aids, and the reliability of domestic wheeled walking-aid is one of their important attributes, but there is little research on the reliability of mobility aids. This paper conducts the failure mode, effects and criticality analysis on domestic wheeled walking-aid. By collecting, collating and analyzing the 26 failure modes, the key modules are the chassis and the lifting system. The key modules are obtained, and the failure data is analyzed to find out that the lifetime distribution model is log-normal and the 0...

Local anaesthetics such as mepivacaine are key molecules in the medical sector, so ensuring their supply chain is crucial for every health care system. Rapid production of mepivacaine from readily available commercial reagents and (non-dry) solvents under safe conditions using portable, continuous apparatus could make an impactful difference in underdeveloped countries. In this work, we report a continuous platform for synthesising mepivacaine, one of the most widely used anaesthetics for minor surgeries. With a focus on sustainability, reaction efficiency and seamless implementation, this platform afforded the drug in 44% isolated yield following a concomitant distillation-crystallisation on a gram scale after N -functionalisation and amide coupling, with full recovery of the solvents and excess reagents...

Against the background of sanction policy and escalation of political conflict of Russia with unfriendly countries, trade relations with many foreign suppliers degraded. The current situation affected supply of medical goods, most of which were imported from countries of the European Union. At the state level, it was decided to legalize parallel import. As regards medical articles practical implementation of this mechanism met large number of exceptions that resulted in delays and disruptions of supplies. Indisputably, main problem remains inability to provide necessary amount of medical goods by national industry...

OBJECTIVES: In a context of heparin shortage, we studied the wasted quantities in three intensive care units (ICU) of a university hospital where two electric syringe pump (ESP) heparin protocols coexist (20000UI/48mL used in the cardiology ICU and 25000UI/50mL use in the medical and surgical ICUs). METHOD: We performed a prospective observational study of patients treated with heparin ESP. We collected the information recorded in the prescription software connected to the ESP (dosage, start time, infusion rate, interruption times, date and time of end of treatment)...

This editorial explores the challenges faced by families with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) when it comes to travel, drawing parallels with the difficulties experienced in attending routine doctor's appointments. The disruptions to routine, preparation of supplies, and the fear of unfamiliar environments often make travel seem like an unattainable dream for these families. Despite these challenges, some families showcase resilience and determination, managing to travel with their loved ones...

Background: Nitinol is used as the structural framework in numerous types of medical devices (e.g., guidewires, transcatheters, stents). The desire to understand the material compatibility of nitinol with vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VH2 O2 ) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2 ) sterilization is increasing in healthcare technology. As a result of increased regulatory pressure and capacity limitations related to ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization, the industry is seeking alternative, sustainable sterilization options...

Synthetic organic polymers commonly are used in the construction of healthcare product and medical device components. Medical devices often are sterilized to ensure that they are free from viable microorganisms. A common technique to achieve this is using ionizing radiation, usually gamma. A trend exists in industrial sterilization to supplement gamma with alternative accelerator technologies (e.g., X-ray). In the current work, studies were performed to characterize polymer modifications caused by gamma and X-ray sterilization processes and to assess the comparative equivalency...

Since their discovery in valsartan-containing drugs, nitrosamine impurities have emerged as a significant safety problem in pharmaceutical products, prompting extensive recalls and suspensions. Valsartan, candesartan, irbesartan, olmesartan, and other sartans have been discovered to have additional nitrosamine impurities, such as N-nitroso-N-methyl-4-aminobutyric acid (NMBA), N-nitroso-Di-isopropyl amine (NDIPA), N-nitroso-Ethyl-Isopropyl amine (NEIPA), and N-nitroso-Diethyl amine (NDEA). Concerns about drug safety have grown in response to reports of nitrosamine contamination in pharmaceuticals, such as pioglitazone, rifampin, rifapentine, and varenicline...

Squalene, a high-value acyclic triterpenoid compound, is broadly used in the food and medical industries. Although the large acetyl-CoA pool and hydrophobic space of Yarrowia lipolytica are suitable for the accumulation of squalene, the current production level in Y. lipolytica is still not sufficient for industrial production. In this study, two rounds of multicopy integration of genes encoding key enzymes were performed to enhance squalene anabolic flux in the cytoplasm. Furthermore, the mevalonate pathway was imported into peroxisomes through the compartmentalization strategy, and the production of squalene was significantly increased...

Quality and safety in healthcare have emerged as key factors impacting on both clinical effectiveness and clinical outcomes. While improving the healthcare supply chain has been extensively researched, the impact of the healthcare supply chain on clinical safety has received little attention in the literature, largely due to the complexity of such studies and the involvement of multiple stakeholders. This research proposes an evaluation model using key performance measurements for an electronic procurement system that enables digital transformation of the healthcare supply chain...

Experimental economics is, nowadays, a well-established approach to investigate agents' behavior under economic incentives. In the last decade, a fast-growing number of studies have focused on the application of experimental methodology to health policy issues. The results of that stream of literature have been intriguing and strongly policy oriented. However, those findings are scattered between different health-related topics, making it difficult to grasp the overall state-of-the-art. Hence, to make the main contributions understandable at a glance, we conduct a systematic literature review of laboratory experiments on the supply of health services...

Findings suggest that the Act, while aiming to control price inflation, has had a multifaceted impact on the pharmaceutical sector. Stakeholders, including pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers, patient advocacy groups, and policymakers, offered varied perspectives: while some laud the Act for its potential in controlling runaway drug prices and making healthcare more accessible, others raise concerns about possible reductions in drug innovation, disruptions to supply chains, and the sustainability of smaller pharmaceutical companies...

Pharmacists and pharmacies are key drivers in the American marketplace. They serve as an endpoint of the pharmaceutical supply chain and are the dispensers of a range of consumer goods, some nonthreatening and others potentially harmful to public health.
