TAPSE measurement during echocardiography is a well known measure of right heart systo-diastolic function. Low TAPSE means reduced cranio-caudal excursion of tricuspidal annulus, sign of both reduced ejection fraction and reduced distensibility of right ventricle. It is a good prognostic index for cardiac mortality risk in CHF patients, adding significant prognostic information to NYHA stadiation. Nephrologists do not always fully aware of right ventricular function in their patients affected by chronic renal failure (CRF), even if this datum is probably crucial in vascular access policy...

By establishing the renal supleetion procedure, the patients with cronic renal failure also have an acceleration of arterial hypertension. The management of this situation calls for the understanding of the generating mechanisms (hipervolemia by the reduction of natriuresis and hiperreninemia) and the adaptation of the therapeutical approach for every patient. It imposes an individualized dialization prescription taking into account the residual renal function and an antihypertension treatment, in which the role of the conversion enzyme inhibitors is intensely debated...

UNLABELLED: Laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy is a rare operation in our country because the complexity of the technique and the expansion of the cadaveric donor. We present our open and laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy from 1984. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From 1984 to 2007 we have done 84 live donor nephrectomies; 64 open, 20 laparoscopic surgeries. The transperitoneal approach is preferred in laparoscopy and lumbotomy for the open surgery. RESULTS: In the open technique the operating time is 112 min (70-155), ischaemia time 20 seconds (15-47) and postoperative hospital stay 4,8 days (3-9)...

THE AIM: To assess the effectiveness and safety of the treatment with oral anticholinergic agents (Oxybutin clorure) in patients under 1 year old, and who aree carriers of high risk bladder secondary to neurological illness as well as no neurological one. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Since 1989, we have indicated treatment with anticholinergic agents to 16 patients: 9 patients had neurogenic bladder secondary to: myelomeningocele (n=7) and sacrocoxigeal teratoma (n=2)...

Percutaneous nephrostomy has been one of most used palliative method of urinary diversion to treat cronic renal failure in neoplasic patients. Psychological and social factors meke this measure to be rejected by some patients even sin situations where this is the only action that would make their survival longer. The utilization of ureteral stents provides benefits to a certain percentage of patients, not being possible its usage in all the occassions. Urinary subcutaneous diversion can be a simple and well tolerated alternative for the patient...

UNLABELLED: Hypertension is a common and difficult clinic problem in patients undergoing cronical hemodialysis and exerts a deleterious effect on mordibidy and mortality in end stage renal disease. Identification of potentially reversible factors associated with hypertension would be rational fist step in designing and effective therapeutic strategy. Our study aimed to document the prevalence of hypertension in hemodialysis patients in Andalucia and identify and characterise the demographic, epidemiological, clinical factors and dialysis regimens associated with hypertension...

COMPARATIVE STUDY

The purpose of our study was the evaluation of the effects of a film on the anxiety and memory of cronically ill adolescents (n. 25) versus healthy adolescents (n. 25). The chronic illness was: renal failure, renal transplantation (6 months before), scoliosis and Crohn's disease. The S.T.A.I.-Y test was administered before and after the film to evaluate the state-anxiety before and after the vision, only the trait-anxiety was evaluated before. The state and trait-anxiety was not abnormal, although the state anxiety was increased in the hospitalized adolescents before the vision (mean S...
