Efficient pure-red emission light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are essential for high-definition displays, yet achieving pure-red emission is hindered by challenges like phase segregation and spectral instability when using halide mixing. Additionally, strongly confined quantum dots (QDs) produced through traditional hot-injection methods face byproduct contamination due to poor solubility of metal halide salts in the solvent octadecene (ODE) at low temperatures. Herein, we introduced a novel method using a benzene-series strongly electrostatic potential solvent instead of ODE to prevent PbI2 intermediates and promote their dissolution into [PbI3 ]- ...

Macrocephaly is defined as an abnormal increase in head circumference greater than two standard deviations above the mean for a given age and sex. We present the case of a 16-month-old boy with congenital progressive macrocephaly, who was referred to our hospital for a ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement for external hydrocephalus diagnosed at 13 months of age. The patient had a febrile seizure 12 hours after the shunt was placed and the emergency CT exam revealed collapsed ventricles and a right frontal subdural collection, suggestive of an over-drainage and intracranial hypotension...

An intelligent fluorescent nanoprobe (lignite-CDs-Eu) was constructed by an effective and facile method based on lignite-derived carbon dots (CDs) and lanthanide europium ions (Eu3+ ), which exhibited high sensitivity, low detection limit (13.35 nM) and visual color variation (from blue to red) under ultraviolet light towards tetracycline (TC) detection. Significantly, portable and economical sensors were developed using lignite-CDs-Eu immobilized fiber material of filter paper and wearable glove with the aid of color extracting and image processing application (APP) in the smartphone...

This study investigated the role of cognitive control in moral decision-making, focusing on conflicts between financial temptations and the integrity of honesty. We employed a perceptual task by asking participants to identify which side of the diagonal contained more red dots within a square to provoke both honest and dishonest behaviors, tracking their reaction times (RTs). Participants encountered situations with no conflict, ambiguous conflict, and clear conflict. Their behaviors in the clear conflict condition categorized them as either "honest" or "dishonest...

QDs are semiconductor nanocrystalline materials with distinct optical and electronic characteristics due to their microscopic size and quantum mechanical properties. They are often composed of materials such as cadmium selenide (CdSe), cadmium telluride (CdTe), or indium phosphide (InP) and are typically in the size range of 2 to 10 nanometers in diameter. These tiny particles are used in various scientific and technological applications. Some key characteristics and applications of quantum dots are size-dependent Optical Properties with tunable emission...

Quantum dots (QDs) are promising building blocks for luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs), yet most QD-based LSCs suffer from toxic metal composition and color tinting. UV-selective harvesting QDs can enable visible transparency, but their development is restricted by large reabsorption losses and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). The developed here Ag, Mn: ZnInS2 /ZnS QDs show a high PLQY of 53% due to the passivating effect of ZnS shell. These QDs selectively absorb UV light and emit orange-red light with a large Stokes shift of 180 nm...

White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) are the key component in next-generation lighting and display devices. The inherent toxicity of Cd/Pb-based quantum dots (QDs) limits the further application in WLEDs. Recently, more attention has been focused on eco-friendly QDs and their WLEDs, especially the phosphor-free WLEDs based on mono-component, which profits from bias-insensitive color stability. However, the imbalanced carrier distribution between red-green-blue luminescent centers, even the absence of a certain luminescent center, hinders their balanced and stable photoluminescence/electroluminescence (PL/EL)...

Visible light photodetectors are extensively researched with transparent metal oxide holes/electron layers for various applications. Among the metal oxide transporting layers, nickel oxide (NiO) and zinc oxide (ZnO) are commonly adopted due to their wide band gap and high transparency. The objective of this study was to improve the visible light detection of NiO/ZnO photodiodes by introducing an additional quantum dot (QD) layer between the NiO and ZnO layers. Utilizing the unique property of QDs, we could select different sizes of QDs and responsive light wavelength ranges...

Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists or pro-inflammatory cytokines converge to activate the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway, which provokes inflammatory responses. In the present study, we identified amiodarone hydrochloride as a selective inhibitor of the TLR3-mediated NF-κB signaling pathway by screening the RIKEN NPDepo Chemical Library. In human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC), amiodarone selectively inhibited the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) induced by polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (Poly(I:C)), but not tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1α, or lipopolysaccharide...

Urgently addressing the need for a rapid, user-friendly, and point-of-care test for TC detection. In this work, we use cyclen and citric acid to synthesise carbon dots (CDs) with a unique ring-shaped structure on their surface and combine them with europium (Eu3+ ) to form an Eu-CDs fluorescent probe. In the presence of TC in aqueous systems, the Eu-CDs probe emits two distinctive fluorescent signals: the stable blue emission from cyclen-modified CDs and the red emission from Eu3+ ,showing a proportional increase with TC concentration...

The most common clinical feature was longitudinal xanthopachyonychia (n = 9), followed by longitudinal leukopachyonychia (=3) and longitudinal pachymelanonychia (n = 2). The most common clinical findings identified following dermoscopy and analysis at high magnification of classical photographs were free-edge thickening of the nail plate without pitting (n = 14), longitudinal ridging (n = 7), round white clods (n = 7), white dots (n = 7), and filiform hemorrhages (n = 7), followed by oval and linear white clods (n = 5), fuzzy lateral border (n = 5), and red-purple blood clods (n = 3)...

By spontaneously forming a microstructured interface, a bulk heterojunction-like charge-generation layer composed of a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/ZnO bilayer was fabricated and an ideal charge-generation efficiency surpassing 115% was obtained. The coupling strength of the waveguide mode for the top unit and the plasmon polariton loss for the bottom unit were highly suppressed using precise thickness control, which increased the LEE of the tandem devices...

Mixed-halide CsPb(Br/I)3 perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are regarded as one of the most promising candidates for pure-red perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) due to their precise spectral tuning property. However, the lead-rich surface of these QDs usually results in halide ion migration and nonradiative recombination loss, which remains a great challenge for high-performance PeLEDs. To solve the above issues, we employ a chelating agent of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid hydrate (DOTA) to polish the lead-rich surface of the QDs and meanwhile introduce a new ligand of 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) to passivate surface defects of the QDs...
