Among eleven convalescent patients of Argentine hemorragic fever an electro-ballistocardiographic study was effected which led to the following conclusions: a) In 2 over 11 studied cases, electro-ballistocardiographic modifications of probable myocardial injury could be detected. b) The greatest percentage of the modifications was interpreted as normal variants of the electrocardiogram.

Programmed cell death (PCD) is a fundamental process regulating immune homeostasis. During acute viral infections PCD of lymphocytes by apoptosis is necessary for removing the excess of activated antigen-reactive T cells and down-regulation of the immune response. On the other hand, apoptosis is the key mechanism of elimination of viral-infected cells. At the present time there is virtually no data on mechanisms of immune regulation during human hantavirus infections. In this study we examined the dynamic of PBL Fas and FasL expression, the first-step dead caspase-8, -2, -9 and effector caspase-3, -7 and -10 activity in freshly isolated PBL lysates, and anti-CD3-induced PBL mitogenic response and apoptosis in patients with Puumala virus (PUUV) associated hemorrhagic fever with the renal syndrome (HFRS)...

In this monograph are analysed the principal infections transmitted by ticks and particularly those interesting Europe and North America. Besides the main species of these arthropods are described in consideration of their characteristics and geographic diffusion. In particular the infections caused by Borrelia genus and tick born encephalitis virus are treated more exhaustively in consideration of their potential severity and because the diagnosis of these infections is sometimes difficult. However also the main rickettsial infections transmitted by ticks are reported together the hemorragic fevers transmitted by such arthropods...

Dengue is a human disease of viral etiology which may be fatal in its hemorragic form. It is widely spread in the tropical areas of the different continents and has been dramatically expanding over the past 30 years. Although an immunological disorder is thought to be involved in dengue physiological symptoms, the pathogenesis of dengue hemorragic fever has not yet been elucidated. Whether the immune response is deleterious or beneficial to the host remains a matter of debate. Other factors, related to virus replication in specific host cells, could also contribute to the severity of the disease...
