INTRODUCTION: Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has a long history of usage in implant abutments, but it has not seen much applications in tooth-supported prosthetics. The purpose of this research was to examine the clinical performance of PEEK crowns as well as the level of patient satisfaction with them. The pilot study was designed as an in vivo longitudinal examination. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty patients each received a PEEK crown during the procedure. In total, 22 implants were inserted, with 11 going into the maxilla and 9 into the mandible...

The article presents research results regarding the possibility of modifying pre-stressed concrete railway sleepers to improve their durability. The cracks that appear in these elements are one of the reasons for shortening the period of safe use. They do not have a significant impact on the load-bearing capacity of these elements, but on their durability. The resulting scratches become an easy way for the external environment to migrate inside the element, including the reinforcement area. Despite efforts to eliminate the possibility of cracking, this phenomenon still occurs in railway sleepers...

OBJECTIVES: In-office and lab milled prostheses are the staple for indirect restorations. It is therefore critical to determine their long-term bonding durability. METHODS: CAD/ CAM blocks of two classes of restorative materials: 1) a nano-ceramic reinforced polymer matrix (NCPM) and, 2) a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) were bonded using four different universal adhesives (UA) and silane systems. A lithium disilicate glassceramic (LDS) was used as a reference...

Studies have reported challenges of debonding of dental zirconia crowns to from luting cement and prepared teeth. The aim of the study was to explore the application of dental glazing systems for enhancing the bonding of zirconia dental ceramics to luting resin cement. Commercial glaze powder and liquid (Vita Akzent) and experimental mica-based glaze powders were used for the study. X-ray diffraction analysis of the glaze powders (XRD) and Fourier Transform InfraRed Spectroscopy (FTIR) was done on the glaze liquid...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The type of veneer preparation is often chosen according to the patient's tooth structure and occlusion. Taking biomechanics into account in this decision-making process provides the clinician with more technical information on how to improve the clinical longevity of restorations. However, biomechanical analyses of veneer preparation designs are sparse. PURPOSE: The purpose of this 3-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis with microcomputed tomography (µCT) data obtained from realistic models was to assess the influence of different preparations for ceramic and composite resin veneers on restoration and resin layer stress distribution...

OBJECTIVE: Clinical contamination during direct adhesive restorative procedures can affect various adhesive interfaces differently and contribute to bulk failure of the restorations. This review aims to summarise the current knowledge on the influence of a variety of clinical contaminants on the bond strength at various adhesive interfaces during adhesive restorative procedures and identify gaps in the literature for future research. DATA AND SOURCES: An electronic database search was performed in PubMed and EMBASE to identify articles that investigated the influence of contaminants on direct restorative bonding procedures...
