The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) targeted micelles loaded with IR-780 (Cetuximab/IR-780/micelles) for generating tumor targeting, multimodal images, and photothermal therapy (PTT). We initially studied the cellular uptake of these micelles using the HCT-116 and SW-620 cell lines. HCT-116 (high expression of EGFR) and SW-620 (low expression of EGFR) cell lines were used to examine biodistribution and antitumor effects of Cetuximab/IR-780/micelles...

Background &Aims: Sofosbuvir is a powerful drug for treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. In comparison to preceding remedies, sofosbuvir-based regimens provide a higher cure rate, fewer side effects, and much lower duration of treatment. The aim of the work was to assess the efficacy and safety of sofosbuvir plus ribavirin with or without peginterferon-alfa in treatment of a cohort of Egyptian patients with hepatitis C virus infection. METHODS: Two hundred treatment naive patients who were HCV-antibody positive and HCV RNA by PCR positive aged more than 18 years were enrolled in the study and patients were classified into two groups: Group I which included 100 patients who received dual therapy with sofosbuvir plus oral weight based ribavirin and Group II which included 100 patients triple therapy with sofosbuvir plus oral weight based ribavirin (as with the dual therapy) and a 180 mcg Peg-INF alpha 2a subcutaneous injection weekly for 12 weeks...

BACKGROUND: The present study was conducted to evaluate the bond strength in the different root thirds (premolars and maxillary central incisors) of composite relined glass fiber posts compared to untreated glass fiber posts cemented with dual- or chemical-cure cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty human single-rooted premolars (flat canal) (n = 15) and 12 maxillary central incisors were used (round canal) (n = 3). The teeth were sectioned, and the roots received endodontic treatment...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Universal adhesives combine silane and various monomers in a single bottle to make them more versatile. Their adhesive performance is unclear. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the effects of an additional silane application before using a universal adhesive on the adhesion between a disilicate glass ceramic and a composite resin by using a microshear bond strength test (μSBS) and fracture analysis immediately and after thermocycling...

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The color stability of luting agents influences the esthetics of ceramic laminate veneers. Clinical studies that have evaluated the color changes of veneers cemented to enamel with light- and dual-polymerizing resin cement are lacking. INTRODUCTION: The influence of the remaining coronal tooth structure along with intra-radicular esthetic posts increases fracture resistance of fractured teeth especially in the anterior region. The advent of resin based luting cements improves the adhesion of fiber posts. AIM: To evaluate the fracture resistance of endodontically treated roots restored with fiber posts using different resin cements - Calibra (etch and rinse), PermaFlo® DC (self-etch primer) and SmartCem2 (self-adhesive)...

CONTEXT: Traditional hepatitis C virus treatment was limited by low cure rates, side effects, and stringent monitoring requirements. Sofosbuvir, a direct-acting antiviral agent with a cure rate of 96%, was introduced in 2013. However, trials frequently excluded patients with advanced liver disease and prior treatment experience. This study aims to elucidate the real-world cure rates and sofosbuvir safety profile. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at Kaiser Permanente Southern California involving patients with hepatitis C virus who received sofosbuvir treatment...

Prion diseases are fatal transmissible neurodegenerative disorders affecting humans and various mammals. In spite of intensive efforts, there is no effective cure or treatment for prion diseases. Cellular forms of prion protein (PrP(C)) is essential for propagation of abnormal isoforms of prion protein (PrP(Sc)) and pathogenesis. The effect of an artificial dual microRNA (DmiR) on PrP(C) suppression and resultant inhibition of prion replication was determined using prion-infectible cell cultures: differentiated C2C12 culture and primary mixed neuronal and glial cells culture (MNGC)...

The aim of the study was to assess direct restorations mechanical properties (both in vitro and in vivo) to improve dental restorations quality after root canal treatment. Laboratory tests showed that using nanocomposite materials of dual curing with the fiberglass reinforced posts improves restoration strength in endodontically treated teeth: by 3.9±5.8% in class II Peroz restorations, 12.6±5.9 and 24.2±4.2% in class III and IV, correspondently. Using fiberglass reinforced posts (LuxaPost) for the restoration of the tooth crown after endodontic treatment significantly decreases the number of complications associated with marginal leakage of the restoration during first 2 years after treatment (p<005)...

Sonic vibrations may improve the bond strength and durability of fiberglass posts by improving adhesive penetration into dentin as well as the cement flow. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sonic vibrations on the bond strength between fiberglass posts and root dentin using the pull-out test. Bovine roots were endodontically treated and divided randomly into four groups (n=12): Group C - conventional cementation (control); Group SA - sonic vibration (Smart Sonic Device, FGM) of the adhesive system and conventional post accommodation; SP group - conventional adhesive application and sonic vibration of the post during accommodation; and SASP - sonic vibration of the system adhesive and the post during accommodation...

Exercise brings changes on the chromatin ensuing the upregulation of many genes that confer protection from type 2 diabetes. In type-2 diabetes, critical genes are down-regulated such as those involved in glucose transport (GLUT4, MEF2A) and also oxidative phosphorylation (NRF-1 and its target genes). Recent reports have shown that NRF-1 not only regulate mitochondrial oxidative genes but also controls MEF2A, the main transcription factor for glucose transporter, GLUT4. Such dual control of the two pathways by NRF-1 place it as critical gene in the design of therapeutic modalities much needed to cure or better manage type 2 diabetes...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the water sorption and solubility test design of ISO 4049 for resin cements. Sorption and solubility of six dual-curing resin cements [RelyX Unicem 2 Automix (RUN), Multilink Speed CEM (MLS), Panavia SA Plus (PSA), RelyX Ultimate (RUL), Multilink Automix (MLA), and Panavia V5 (PV5)] were analyzed by storage in distilled water after dual-curing. In addition, sorption and solubility during thermal cycling were assessed with self-cured and dual-cured specimens. After water storage, all cements revealed sorption in the range of 30 μg mm(-3) except for PV5, for which sorption was markedly lower (mean ± SD = 20...

Acalypha is an important genus of the Euphorbiaceae family. The genus is represented by five species in Saudi Arabia. Acalypha fruticosa Forssk. Fl. Aeg is traditionally used as a cure for stomachache, dyspepsia, rheumatism, dermatitis, and swellings of the body. The present study endeavors to provide a phytochemical and biological evaluation of the plant, with the aim of relating activity to constituting secondary metabolites in the plant. Column chromatographic separation of the methanol extract led to the isolation of four compounds namely 2-methyl-5,7-dihydroxychromone 5-O-β-d-glucopyranoside 1, acalyphin 2, apigenin 3 and kaempferol 3-O-rutinoside 4...

Treatment of hepatitis C is based on a national consensus guideline updated six-monthly according to local availability and affordability of approved therapies through a transparent allocation system in Hungary. This updated guideline incorporates some special new aspects, including recommendations for screening, diagnostics, use and allocation of novel direct acting antiviral agents. Indication of therapy in patients with no contraindication is based on demonstration of viral replication with consequent inflammation and/or fibrosis in the liver...
